Imus - no guts

Wow whhat a completely clueless thread. Why doesnt he say "yeah i said it so what"?

Imus has made a career out of cutting remarks about people and I've never heard him apologize and beg forgiveness.

Like I said, no guts.

Interesting how free speech only works in one direction-:) Remember Sharpton's comments in the past about "cracker rednecks"? Not much out of that. Always something for our American public, and the media to get it's shorts in a knot over. Something new every week. Who gives a s--t?
For one, all the players and staff at Rutgers care. Why did IMUS GO TO SHARPTON? He didn't have to. This isn't a story about Sharpton, it's about IMUS and his string of racial remarks that is going to end his career as he knows it today. FIRE HIM.

Some of you people just don't get it. You're so sad. You really need to look in the mirror at yourselves.

If only some posters would have the same passion for ending the conflict in Iraq. Mostb1 you have entirely too much time on your hands! Get over it already! Imus will stay and stay til he retires on his own terms. You will never do as much for charity as he has. Never in your lifetime.

This says it all. If I agree or disagree, it still stands. Not just for blacks, whites. For EVERYONE! What he said may have been bad, and hurt many people, but we live in a country where the below stands. Well...it has--:) That should be the end of it. They just want endless damn drama!

"Freedom of speech is the concept of the inherent human right to voice one's opinion publicly without fear of censorship or punishment".

You really don't have a clue what is going on do you? You really don't have a clue how big this is.

Again, stop trying to deflect his racist remarks onto me or make a silly rant about Iraq. You accuse me of having too much time on my hands while you make a silly post.

He's not going to last. Just watch. I've seen this too many times. And this is way too big.

What a lot of you are failing to realize is that these are college students, yes somebodys children. They didn't do anything to deserve this attack. They attend college and play basketball. Thats it.

Imus is a well paid professional. He should know better. He took a chance, and now he has to pay. This isn't the first time for him. How about when he called Gwen Ifill of PBS a maid covering the White House?

Sharpton and Jackson did not make the rules. Its called common decency!

Anybody who defends him is also a bigot.

Waaaah! He called me a bad name!

Just how thin-skinned is everyone? If it was a stupid comment, it was a stupid comment...not a national scandal.

Yes it is a national scandal. It has been "allowed" in our entertainment industry for way too long for one reason "profit". If this is the beginning of a real national debate on why so much racism and hateful comments are part of the airwaves, both from so-called entertainers and from music, so be it. That might be the only good thing to come out of all of this.

In the meantime, Imus MUST RESIGN or BE FIRED. There is no other choice.

If you think this should be a national scandal, the other poster was right. You have too much time on your hands, or no self-esteem, and/or too many other issues.

Something tells me you got bullied on the playground.

See ya.

Why should Imus be fired? Why is this latest remark so outrageous that he MUST get fired over it? Imus was just being Imus. Do I support his actions and choice of words? No, but he shouldn't be fired. Whatever happend to free speech?

Personally I think the two week suspension is ridiculous enough, but getting fired? Please.

There sure are a lot of people on this board that need to learn about racism.

Imus has a history of it. And no, we don't have a total "freedom" of speech in America. And we certainly do not on the PUBLIC REGULGATED AIRWAVES.

The only "please" should be reseved for you and how ignorant you are being about someone who has a history of racist comments on his show.

::)

You, Al Sharpton, and Jesse Jackson feed off of negative situations like this. It's like you guys have nothing better to do. But what about all the good things Imus has done?

And did you know he was one of the first to bring up how black people in New Orleans were being ignored and segregated against after Hurricane Katrina? He was one of the first people to bring up this topic. He came to their defense.

Were Imus' comments appropriate? No. But should he be fired over it? No.

It's simply a matter of opinion.

No, it isn't a matter of "opinion". It's a matter of decency. It's a matter of profits over racism.

Many people have done wonderful things. But then they screw up. Imus may have "given" back to the community many times but he has to go for what he has done now. The two do not mean anything together. This just isn't a one-time racist remark.

Imus or the broadcasters can't "pay" to get out of this one. It would relegate him and anyone who appears on his show from now on to supporters of racism. He has to be fired or resign and start over like so many others who have made a HUGE wrong to society.

I'm sorry that you just don't have a clue.

Read AL ROKER'S comments about WHY IMUS MUST GO. Maybe that will help http://allday.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2007/04/10/116906.aspx

Why doesn't Don Imus stand behind his remarks and show some balls? Something like, "yes, I said nappy headed hos and so what?" Imus' must have his testicles in a lockbox for him to go begging forgiveness from Al Sharpton.

Finally, common sense!

If Imus had said something along those lines and let it go at that, he ultimately wouldn't have lost his advertisers or gig...but he has to do the ridiculous PC "I'm sorry" tour. The only thing left now is the obiligatory trip to rehab.

You're so wrong you have no idea. The problem is not that he said Im sorry, the problem is that he is an old man who actually thinks that way. He didnt hire anyone to help him, he went on Sharpton's show and only made things worse, "you people" was the worst thing he could have said. Yes he tried to explain that he meant the two people that he was talking to at the time but it was just too easily misconstrued as "you people" meaning the black community as a whole and that is the wrong way to address anyone, as "you people" I.E, others, not of our kind, alien. NO, anyway you look at it had Imus NOT been contrite, his advertisers would have bailed even faster, becuase the furor would have been bigger. The arrogance of a statement like that " Imus should have stood his ground and not apologized" is the same arrogance that got him into this trouble in the first place, the arrogance that makes him think "IM Don Imus, I can say whatever pops into my head and damn the torpedoes". Listen no one wants their freedom of speech trampled etc, and I believe very strongly that you should be able to say whatever you want o say as long as you are willing to stand behind your statements no matter what the fall out, be it good, or bad. WEll here is the fallout and it has so little to do with "PC" that is the lamest excuse that people use whenever they get caught saying something beyond the pale. Not everything that is offensive can be explained away by blaming "Oh the pc liberals blah blah blah" sometimes statements have to stand on their own without people trying to discredit those who take offense by painting them as "the PC police",........sometimes you just go too far and you have to be held accounatble.

Why is that so hard to swallow?. Imus has a long history behind the scenes of racial bias, that's his business honestly. If he's a bit racist that is his business and Cbs for turning a blind eye to it because he's a cash cow. I have no problem with that for it is the way of the world, the second his true colors come out on air, you have to get real about things. He blew it, nobody but Imus, trying to blame Sharpton and Jess Jackson is a joke, Imus blew it, period. Listen Im no fan of Sharpton but think about this: How SHOULD someone who wants change go about it? people get bent about Sharpton becuase he makes a scene, well how else do things change? you cant protest quietly and politely and expect anything to be different, you get ignored that way. People want to criticize Sharpton and Jackson? why? for calling BS on Imus?........and get it straight: Imus did this to IMUS, nobody else. McGirk did not help things by getting the ball in motion during the on air rap but Imus said what he said folks, period. Just becuase you dont understand what the big deal is does not mean it is not a big deal. I think that is the arrogance and insensitivity that Sharpton is trying to explain, and he cant very well do thatt politely to people who say; "Imus has no guts, he should have just said screw you I said it so there". Im sure you'll disagree but a lot of people here seem to have obscured the issue because Sharpton is involved, and again Imus was stupid to have gone on that show without any real preparation.

He gets what he gets for one mis-step after another. Get off of Sharpton and Jesse Jackson, they are not the issue. it's as though you can't blame the victim so you attempt to blame the victim's advocates, whatever they are really not theissue.....Sick to the heart of the story..........Imus did this to Imus, period.

The Imus comment was nasty, however, Mr. Sharpton and company should listen to rap material. The "songs" and videos portray women in a very bad manner. The brilliant Dave Chappelle makes Imus' comment appear tame in some of his comedy. Do you really feel there would have been such an uproar had Imus made a quip about Italians, Greeks, or any other group? Let's stop sending people to "Jimmy The Greek hell" at the advice of Sharpton or Jackson. Those gentleman need to start at home with the lifestyle of many of their race and the "music" that young people are listening to. Clean up your own backyard first.
Al Sharpton was one of the Leaders who got the word N banned from New York ( Target Rap Artist ) . AL Sharton does attack Black People , it just dont get much press time .

It's a ploy to hook up with XM! Watch.

Yeah I dont know why you good chrtistains are so worried about IMus, somebody will pick him up. EVen greaseman bounced back a couple of times and what he has said is ten times worse, BOTH times he shot himself in the foot. He never got half as big as IMus but Imus will get hired by someone, he's considered a sacred cow although I just cannnot figure who is listening to him. That show,.........God..........

AL was obviously very upset this morning on The Today Show. To his credit, he wasn't asked to comment and he just did the weather. But he made no attempt to transition into to weather and was extremely subdued during the 2 weather segments following the Imus-related interviews.

This is going to get me a lot of hate responses but I honestly don't care. Here goes:

Jocks have been fired and had their careers ruined for even less than this. I don't care if Imus is in New York and I don't care that he's a "legend." When you boil it all down Imus is just another jock and should be treated accordingly. However, I'm not idealistic to actually believe that he'll be fired. However, if you're going to fire a guy for botching up a cookie promotion (happened to a friend of mine a few years ago) or suspend someone for making fun of Justin Timberlake (Java Joel in Chicago) then Imus needs to be let go.

But, again, I'm not dumb enough to actually believe that it'll happen.

I think Imus wants to try and make it right with the the Rutgers Team. Anyways how did this get way out of hand in the first place. This should have been a case in which it was between the Rutgers team and Don Imus. Instead you have some people who think that all whites are racist and are just waiting until they can attack. Mr. Jackson and Sharpton should just look in their past history in which lays the mistakes they made. If sharpton did not have a radio show would he be doing what he's doing? I'm not sure I think so. I did hear that sharpton is going to protest with signs at the radiothon on Friday. What a horrible thing to do. So while Don is interviewing a kid with cancer sharpton and his idiot buddies are going to picket. Who does sharpton think he is!!!!!!!! If I spelled sharpton name's wrong thats to bad.
