Spoken like a true racist... comical how you attempt to deflect the issue but turning the victims of racism into the perpetrators.....pathetic blame the victim mentality
You prove My point on so many levels:
True racists like you defend bigotry...
True racists like you think racism is "humorous" because you're not the one targeted
True racists like you point fingers at victims of racism to escape your own culpability

And most glaringly pathetic is that dullwitted racists like you would end your lame post with "ooga booga" because you ASSume I am Black..
clever, opie:) doh

Wow!...the very next post. A new record.

Since when is "ooga booga" a reference to being black? "ooga booga" is "scaaaaaaary". Who's racist now?

If considering everyone equal makes me a bigot, then I happily accept the tag.

I now know the mentality of the person I'm communicating with. And here is my only assumption;

Nothing anyone says is considered acceptable to you. You have your agenda. You are unwilling to accept any rational discussion on this topic, and will level the "racist" charge at everyone surrounding you. You will incessantly play the victim card. You name-call, and label people rather than discuss. And then you call others intolerant.

Take a good look in the mirror. You will find the true root of your issues there.

Good luck with trying to get rid of Imus. There's a line of people behind him who're truly bad people.

your explaination at your lame attempt of racist humor is almost as pathetic as your hero Imus... you goosetep in line well..
Don't you have some pics of you hero cadaver fossil to wank to?
*flush*
with all due respect ;D

Note - this was written before the conversation degenerated into..., but here goes...

Neanderpaul said:
Bigotry knows no color. Why is Don Imus a racist, but B.E.T. is acceptable? Why is Howard Stern racist, but "In Living Color" classic TV? Why is "Hymietown" forgiven, but "nappy headed ho's" "deplorable"?

Well, IMHO they are different because it's about relative power and picking on people your own size...

When (not if, when*) black folks in this country catch up to the progress the Irish and Italians have made in terms of political and economic power, the jokes will be just that - jokes. In the meantime, it's picking on the little guy which is exactly the opposite of what makes this country great.

The paradox is that as blacks gain power (note Imus is in trouble the same year that Patrick won and election and Obama is getting $25 mil), their ability to extract apologies will increase just as their need for them will decline. Having said that and having really good black female friends during the course of my life, I really wish that all men, both white and black, would just treat them decently, especially those who are doing exactly what we want young women to be doing.... Sigh. They really do not have anyone in their corner, so when someone with the public platform like Imus, Severin, or anyone else goes after them, it's just icky.

But, I also have to agree with Neanderpaul - Imus isn't at all the worst - I think he was actually trying to be hip and cool, and he should just stop dying his hair and pretending to be something that he is not. And, do something about that post-nasal drip that causes him to clear his throat about 20 times an hour. And, we are animals and do cluster into our ethnic tribes (now it's Sox and Yankees, Christian and Muslims, with us and against us), but just because that comes naturally doesn't mean that it's good or should be encouraged. Murder is natural, but is generally frowned upon.

* When black folks devote as much time and attention to Wall Street as they currently do to professional sports and the military, consider the possibilities...

PS KWUM - your last post is not helping your cause.

You conveniently continue to ignore the multiple examples of the double-standard employed by the media presented. You assume that your agenda is the only with validity. You assume that others have never been the target of ridicule, or real racism. You don't want true equality. You want to use victimization as a stepping stone to poke your head above the masses and have your voice heard. That's self-imposed segregation. You can't have true equality until you consider others' opinions every bit as valid as your own.

Take a good look in the mirror. You will find the true root of your issues there.

Until Americans can accept our differences, we will never be able to discuss them.

This thread is quickly becoming proof.

Neanderpaul - you are so right!

Do I care about Imus? No - I don't listen to him. As to the basketball players to whom he was referring - there are more important questions to ask: Can they read beyond the level of a 10-year-old? Are they only in college AT ALL, because they fulfill a quota? (only difference is, now they call quotas "diversity") Only when you take your lumps like everybody else, is there truly a level playing field. Many other groups have had it FAR WORSE throughout history
(the Holocaust, "no Irish need apply", Native American Indians, Gypsies are just a few that readily come to mind...)
Do I think that I am better than anybody else because I am a white guy? No. But neither should I be expected to apologize for it. Back in the days of American slavery, MY ancestors were back in the old country, digging around in the ground trying to find something to eat and just to survive!

Can you just IMAGINE if the "C" in NAACP stood for Caucasian? The United Caucasian College Fund? White Entertainment Television? Oh - the uproar that would ensue! These institutions are TOTALLY racist - but they are politically correct. When you have YOUR OWN PEOPLE (Bill Cosby, and that minister from Dorchester - forget his name...) telling you to suck it up and be responsible for your own actions/destiny - you would do well to take it to heart. Remember the quote from JESSE JACKSON a while back when he noticed a group of guys behind him on the street late at night? Has Al Sharpton ever done an honest day's labor in his life? He sure doesn't hesitate to voice his opinions...

Whine, whine, whine. Don't you realize you are shooting yourselves in the foot? Lead by example. Let yourself be judged by your actions, your deeds. Take responsibility. "Affirmative Action" is only affirmative if you are the one who is being affirmed. For everybody else, it is NEGATIVE action - you are being denied something solely on the basis of race. That's racism, folks. Look it up...

Well, IMHO they are different because it's about relative power and picking on people your own size...

And I would counter with the assertion that targeting everyone in comedy actually elevates everyone to an equal playing field.

So, do you believe that it's acceptable to foster racism when one minority group levels racist speech at another? Two wrongs don't make it right. IMHO telling "black folks" that they haven't caught up with other ethnic groups, or referring to picking on the little guy, is every bit as degrading and dropping an "n" bomb. It says "you're still not equal."

Again...I'm not taking a shot at you. I'm just pointing out that in order to have true equality, we must not continue to look at anyone as not being "there yet." That's a societal foot on the throat. There exist programs in this country that give the disadvantaged unequal opportunity to better themselves. An argument can be made that "reverse racism" is an acceptable part of American society. Quotas are wrong. Always. They defy the concept of equality. Equal access should be the rule. But it isn't. We swing the pendulum too far in the opposite direction, which angers white America, and continues to foster segregation. Some would argue this is what our leaders prefer.

Again...I believe there's a difference between using our differences in a humorous way, and legitimately trying to hold people down. Humor...is a healing skill. It can help us deal with potentially uncomfortable social issues through ridicule. I'm not saying people like Severin, or Imus aren't occasionally misguided. I am saying that we as a broadcast industry, cannot give Chris Rock an Emmy for a show that rips on white people, and crucify Don Imus for an unfunny reference to "nappy hair. "

If racial humor is wrong. Then, it's wrong on all fronts. That has to be the accepted policy, or else divisive speech will continue to be an issue forever.

...and it will.

Finn said:

As legitimate as that statement might be, there are those who would say you're a racist for tabling it. Because somewhere along the line, it became wrong for any ethnic group to specialize in any one skill, or craft. Back when..."black folk" were dancers in films. When you have a pigment-based format, how often do we see a white guy holding down AM drive?

Generations ago, our physical prowess dictated our jobs. It still does. Large men carry heavy machinery. Small men are more involved in strategic areas. But, if we apply any ethnic, or skin pigment to the discussion, it's racist.

Stereotypes exist because the great majority of the group being stereotyped, engage in the stereotype-defining behavior.

Imus stereotyped. It happens in the media every day. Watch the NBC Nightly News tonight, and try and tell me a story won't be targeted toward some ethnic group.

"Tonight...more and more <insert ethnicity here> are likely to inherit <insert malady here>"

Can't have it both ways...

In a dream world wherein there is an equal playing field and equal opportunity and no glass ceiling, shutting others out as exists for both minoritys and females in this country , when "old white men" and big business are not running the country and , then we would see more Blacks, females and other minorities on wall street..
This is not a fantasy island wherein we all share the same history and have the same advantages in the workplace..
Again when did hate speech and racist slurs become comical? The same whites who think race jokes are funny are the same types who were amused at mistrel shows.. Using words to denigrate a group based on race is done only to enhance and affirm ones own myth of white superiority...
And in case you are not aware, Chris Rock is a comedian who makes fun of sterotypes.. (many sterotypes that whites have about Blacks) as well.....I dont recall him using Radio airwaves to denigrate whites and hurl racial slurs. apples and oranges..

No. Not at all. Same thing. Equality. If racial humor is unacceptable. It is unacceptable. No exceptions. Rock has won Emmys from his stand up. He has repeatedly targeted white people in his act. As have many before him.

If you're going to level charges of racism at others, you must accept the racism within your own ethnicity. It exists everywhere. Always has. Always will.

Thank you for proving my point. You used the word *racist* or its derivatives no less than 8 times in unfairly labeling Neanderpaul - because YOU DIDN'T LIKE WHAT HE SAID.

If he is a racist (and in your warped mind, I probably am too), then you are a facist. A facist because you use hateful labels to nix speech that doesn't agree with your dogma. You are utterly unable to be objective here and you want to silence anyone else who can. Well guess what? That word is used so randomly that it has lost its meaning or sting. I couldn't care less if you want to call me that. It's not true, and being labeled as such by a race baiter is nothing less than a mark of honor anyhow.

And, you know what else? I really don't like Imus. Hardly ever listen to him. From what I understand, he's a bit of a jerk. But, it is absurd to jump all over him because of this. This has become like some stupid game where you step out of line, it's "gotcha!" This does no one any good, nor does it elevate the eternal debate over race relations.

What's worse, his comment - when taken in context - wasn't even meant to be a "race" comment. He was comparing two teams, both of whom were predominantly black. Let's be honest, the gals from Rutgers did look rougher and more "ghetto" than their counterparts from Tennessee. Look at the photos. Dumb comment? Yes. Then again, you're always asking for trouble when you publicly comment on a woman's looks.

But, this is being played as if it was a race comment (black team v. white team) and that's not how it went. It was stupid to say what he said. The man is no longer funny. But, the comment is hardly worthy of this.

Besides, thanks to hip hop, the word "ho" trandscends race. Any woman can be labeled a "ho", no matter what color she is.

This entire thing is a waste of everyone's time. But don't listen to me, I'm a racist! Most of us are, apparently. Unlike Sharpton or Jackson, right?

Mr. Rock said "he love Black People", but He Hate N . I Dont Think He is saying that he hate poor white people .

Also Viacom owned that radio radist stern as well..
Allow me to enlighten the neatherthal(s) about something which is glaringly obvious here..
There is a HUGE difference between race/ethic humor and racial slurs..

Italians joke about each other amongst each other, as do poles, Irish, Blacks, Jews, females etc... That is
commonly known and acceptable mainly because it is void of:
targeting a group outside their own for malicious racist intent..
Therein lies the distinction..
Just a reminder.. this is not about chris rock,NBC nitely news, rappers, quotas or wall street..Try to focus here..
You can deflect all you want by finger pointing.. bottom line this is about IMUS and his history of hateful racist remarks.. you can label it "humor" all you want .. Just a supposition but I highly doubt that Rutgers is laughing.
Thank God for Al Sharpton having the courage to expose these jackals..I do find it comical that when a person shines the spotlight on a racist, the racists in turn call him a racist.. fuzzy logic. Sort of a rapist blaming the rape victim for getting raped..Not surprising since most racists are not known for their high IQ's.. *chuckles*

So, BET is now owned by Viacom. All that says is that the principal players of BET
value money more than "spreading the message". Radio One, same thing.
Again - look in the mirror - that is your real enemy...

And this changes its race-based programming how?

Any content on any TV/Radio/Cable/Media outlet that defines itself by skin pigment, or ehtnicity, contributes to segregation.

But, we appear to only find it offensive, when we poke fun. Never when we segregate for medical, or economic reasons.

It truly is disturbing. Speaks well of the regression in our country. In the 70's, radio could play Sly Stone's "Don't Call Me N*gger," and we didn't have to edit "Money" or "Who Are You?" Archie Bunker could parody white America. Mel Brooks could make "Blazing Saddles" In the 30s, 3 Jews could openly parody Nazi Germany.

Today..."nappy headed" is racist. Lou Reed referring to "colored girls" is racist.

We have come nowhere...Our progression as a nation is a fallacy.

And Imus is just the target of the week. Congratulations Don (who, BTW I never listen to, nor enjoy)! Your career is reborn!

Good luck to others willing to continue this. I gotta go make d*ck jokes and play Metallica records!

Time to get off the fantasy island, deflecting, and finger pointing at everyone from archie bunker to chris rock and get a grip on FACTS:

Fact #1: Because hate radio generates profits, and is popular among mainstream white audiences, mainstream white radio racists like imus and severin can get away with it. It’s no secret that racism is alive and well in America, you don’t need to attend a klan meeting to know that.. All you need to do is tune in to your local broadcast on radio and tv.. much how the Nazis came to power with their derogatory “comedic” banter about the Jews, while the majority defended “free speech” and/or stood by in silent agreement… ”

Fact #2 As long as you are white radio racist who can make a fortune for sponsors, you can rant and rave against any minority group, any minority religion, any minority ethnic group. Just ask stern/servein/graham/ imus etc. who derive a hefty living from it..

Fact #3 As long as white audiences love it and doesn’t complain about vulgar racist remarks on the airwaves, a self pitying “mea culpa” is the order of the day. Of course the half hearted phony apologies are doled out only after decent people speak out.. followed by the familiar “ ok I apologized now get over it”..
In case you haven’t figured it out, it’s not his audience calling for Imus to be fired. White leaders, are not calling press conferences to demand that Imus be fired. Their silence= approval
Fact #4
The only color that counts in this country besides white is Green. The holy dollar.(profits ) decide the line of morality in America, not principle.

These Young ladies are in College , Playing Basketball, and Living The American Dream . Why would anyone want to rip these ladies apart for what they are doing ? If anyone of these ladies was your daughter , How would you feel about" Old Imus "Comments ?

I had a chance to hear the conversation. What I got out of it was a comparison of the class and appearance disparities of the Lady Vols to the Rutgers team. The Rutgers girls were more street, the Lady Vols, more Buppie. Like the class differences in School Daze, which they referenced.
