Is it time for the NFL's television rules to be overhauled?

really? according to TitanTV, WHNS-21 is going to preempt he Panthers game with the Dallas-Tampa Bay game!

According to the506(dot)com, WHNS-TV (FOX) channel 21 of Asheville, NC is airing Atlanta vs Carolina in week 16.

everything this early in the week is PRELIMINARY....unless you live in a "no duh" area where its your local team or a regional team. The network can and will make changes to neutral areas

Should that even be allowed? That's two teams that in are in adjacent markets to where the station is located.

Asheville (Greenville/Spartanburg/Asheville) is a secondary market for Carolina. The only rule is they MUST show all road games. Carolina is at home. So technically they dont have to carry it. But since all of NC/SC and 98% of GA is showing the game its a moot point.

Like Chief Wiggum on the Simpsons say "Nothing to see here. Move along"

I would also assume they are figuring in NFC east rival markets into placing the Cowboys into the a slot. I would think Packers Bears would be a better matchup.

Also, look at the teams' records before the game.
Dallas (8-5) at Indianapolis (7-6) or
Green Bay (5-7-1) at Chicago (9-4)

A game between two winning teams should always get higher priority over a game where one team has a losing record. I know, doesn't always work that way when you involve Dallas, but in this case it was the right decision. In fact, the Dallas game was the ONLY game between two teams with winning records in the early Fox window.

Buck and Aikman take Sundays off when Fox doesn't have the doubleheader because they also do the Thursday night games, so Fox's #2 team does the top game on a Sunday like this one.

NBC game should start at 6pm with Football America on 5pm NBCSN. CBS Games start 11am so if doubleheader the second game end before 6pm if doesn't gets shifted to CBSSN or TBS or Turner or Trutv. Another problem some Preseason Announcers work for CBS and Fox so wouldn't work in Regular Season only if like CBS have Trent Green do all Chiefs Regular season Games on KSMOTV with Carter Blackburn.
It DOES NOT matter WHERE CBS deposits any remaining part f the second game (Ditto with FOX & FS1 when they have the DH). It's STILL spillover. Why go to the trouble of shifting the final :03 of a game JUST to accomondate NBC ??

Besides, isn't that why they delay the start of the SNF game ny 20 minutes to begin with?? BETTER QUESTION - WHAT difference would changing the start times of each game make?? (I'm fairly certain I know the answer to that one - NONE !!)

As for why CBS showing all NFC games & FOX showing all-AFC games, it's called cross-flexing. It's an effort to 1). Ensure the DH network has the bulk of the better games while 2). Ensuring that the non-DH network has a better chance of getting AT LEAST SOME good games

Pat

The singleheader network will always have at least one regional game in the late time slot. You have the West Coast home games that start later (1pm local Pacific time, or 2pm local Mountain time.) Also there needs to be a late game available for affiliates in those NFL markets that have their team playing an early game at home on the opposite network, therefore having TV exclusivity in that time slot.
Also, many ET & CT will often have late games on either CBs or FOX (Dallas is MOST notorious for this - Even MORE so than Boston)

Pat

I got cheated out of coverage of President Bush. I checked the listings and "60 Minutes" was to air at 7. Fox had the late game, and "The OT" was in the listings. I had the second half of "60 Minutes" set to record because that's when "Jeopardy" is on 6 nights a week (or supposed to be, on Saturday). I got 25 minutes of football and 5 minutes of the introduction to "60 Minutes". When I switched to the other recording there was a gap. The next time they went to a commercial the stopwatch said it had been 35 minutes. Huh?

Good question (As I'm wondering if I'm THE ONLY one left wondering WHAT you're trying to say & WHAT the point of your HEAD-SPINNING DRIVEL is all about   )

WCCO has the game OTA. Is that because the Vikings are contracted to air MNF Vikings games on channel 4? Which leaves Mankato out in the cold even though you get some of the Minneapolis stations on cable/satellite. You're in a worse situation than we are!
Seattle is airing MNF on KIRO, which preempts 8-9PM CBS sitcoms to 1:37-2:37AM Tue morning (new episodes of The Neighborhood & Happy Together). I figured they would be on KCPQ...
Not knowing much about Seattle TV but enough to get by, I would think MNF would be on KONG since MNF airs locally on sister KTVD here in Denver

As for the CBS shows, why didn't KSTW (CBS O&O CW affiliate) pick those up??

Pat

KIRO is owned by Cox and bid the highest for the MNF games
KONG and KING are owned by Tegna

Just because Tegna has the rights for the Christmas Eve game in Denver doesn't mean its universal. Again rights in each primary market goes as such
-ABC O&O and Hearst stations get first refusal of a game...then it goes out to all stations
-if no O&O or Hearst then it goes out to highest bidder

The reason its on My20 and not KUSA 9 is because of Its a Wonderful Life is on NBC
Also last Saturdays Denver/Cleveland game broadcast via NFL Network was on KDVR FOX 31

I was surprised that the Eagles/Cowboys game got 84% of the country, since Steelers-Raiders usually is a pretty good matchup.
Meanwhile, the Broncos/49ers game on (Ironically if not ODDLY enough) CBS is also usually a pretty good matchup (If you take out the "Super Blowout" of 1990) but was ANYTHING BUT good a mere 10 days ago

Pat

The Miss Universe pagent got delayed by the Seahawks-49ers game?
Who cares?

Overall interest in pageants has gone THE SAME general direction as that of the Daytime soap operas.....

Won't be long before they wind up on some online only network (Or WORSE - Some struggling Diginet willing to take on ANYTHING just to stay afloat)

This INCLUDES SNF & MNF cities too :D

True. I guess I was speaking in terms of an "All things created equal" tone :D

Also because KTVD is a MyNetwork TV affiliate & as such, it has the flexibility to air the upcoming Broncos/Raiders game than Daddy KUSA 9 does

Although that said, it does seem a bit weird that since the game was aired nationally by NFL Network & NOT FOX(Although they were using the Fox graphics BUT with Mike Tirico (From NBC) & their own Kurt Warner in the booth) (Dunno what Fox were doing nationally) & KDVR 31 is paired with KWGN 2 (CW, which doesn't program Saturday nights), the Broncos game wasn't aired on KWGN rather than KDVR (Again - JUST SAYING :D )

I like watching pretty girls.

It's become more about their intelligence, though, and that's fine. But the show runs way too long these days.

Good question (As I'm wondering if I'm THE ONLY one left wondering WHAT you're trying to say & WHAT the point of your HEAD-SPINNING DRIVEL is all about   )
The point is I didn't know I would have to make sure to record both halves of "60 Minutes" from the same station. I already knew, because the program in the time slot for "Jeopardy" already gets recorded, that I would get what was recorded during that second half hour, provided there was not a game still going on. If there was a game, then I would have had to record the second half.

Instead, the second recording I made was from the end of a game.

Both are owned by Tegna so its their decision. They dont want to upset folks who watch Its A Wonderful Life on XMas eve.

NFL Network agreement is eight exclusive games (games not on FOX). They were NFL Net exclusives in week 2,3, 8 (London game), and the 2 Saturday games in week 15 & 16. Again in the 2 teams primary markets its broadcast on local TV (as has been the case for over 2 decades now). I have a feeling in this case the reason FOX/Tribune put it on KDVR instead of KWGN is the fact that KWGN has more coverage outside of the Denver area due to their Superstation status (even though they are a CW) and the NFL wanted the eyeballs on their own station.

Both KWGN and KDVR have about the same coverage outside of the Denver market, which is not much anymore (as recently as the mid 2000s, both KWGN and KDVR had plenty of carriage in parts of the rural intermountain West)
