Is it time for the NFL's television rules to be overhauled?

Both KWGN and KDVR have about the same coverage outside of the Denver market, which is not much anymore (as recently as the mid 2000s, both KWGN and KDVR had plenty of carriage in parts of the rural intermountain West)

KWGN is available nationwide on Dish through their (grandfathered) Superstations package. Also KWGN has cable coverage in surrounding areas where there is no CW affiliate nearby.

Fox could have used Kevin Burkhardt and Charles Davis who are the no.2 team on Fox to do one of the NFLN games or Chris Myers and Daryl Johnston.

both already have Sunday duties. Its easier to have people who already have called games before but don't have Sunday duties (preparing for a game).

Here is what we got this week

CBS had the Houston/Philly game, which was great, followed by Pittsburgh/New Orleans, which was great too.

Now, here is the weird one for Fox. We had the Panthers game as usual, but then it switched to Packers-Jets, and it stayed to the nd even though it was CBS's doubleheader.

FOX apparently went rogue about keeping it til the end. But they must have had the NFL's blessing as Jim Nantz welcomed the NYJ/GB audience when the game got done....kinda rare as it was a different network

Noticed that on my local FOX affiliate (WFQX). I thought it was only my affiliate, as my home market shares a (water) boundary with the Green Bay market, and still has a lot of Packer fans (not as many as they used to be, but there are still areas of northern Michigan where it is easier to find a Packers game on the radio than a Lions game.

using the actual logic the only folks who should have kept the game until the end was pretty much Wisconsin (minus Duluth & Mpls DMAs), Marquette, MI and NYC. The fact they kept it til the end for everyone was kinda shocking
And the fact that Marquette showed the Packers game instead of Lions shows that the UP will rather go Packers.

Has any network truly "gone rogue" with something as valuable as its NFL contract? Even as a viewer and not an insider, this doesn't sound like something a major network would ever dare do.

well the rule says if you have the singleheader (as was the case with FOX) they needed to cut away from bonus coverage no later than 3:25PM Central time or when the current drive ends unless you got the game from the getgo. So the fact that FOX went to almost 4PM with bonus coverage, we jokingly said they went rogue.

The last time (before 12/23) CBS had the doubleheader, I remember Fox cut away from bonus coverage at 1:30 PT for highlights of other games. They were due to air some baseball special and locally-fed infomercials in that 1:30-4:30pm period. Definitely an odd one to see an early game still on FOX at 1:45-2PM PT...

Good example of a rule that should be overhauled:

The Pittsburgh Steelers, through a combination of coaching incompetence, poor special teams, turnovers and defensive lapses, are on the verge of being eliminated from the playoffs.

They play divisional rival Cincinnati on Sunday while the other two teams in the division, Cleveland and Baltimore, square off against each other. In order to make the playoffs the Steelers need to win, and they need Baltimore to lose.

Both games start at 4:25.

If the NFL was smart they would allow stations carrying the Steeler game to also carry the Baltimore came on a subchannel. Then people would be flipping back and forth and it would build a lot of excitement.

Right now the rule is one game per station.

We in Asheville are getting the Jacksonville @ Houston game instead of the NY Jets @ New England game> Due to the Texans likely clinching the AFC south this week.

Both CBS and FOX have doubleheaders this week. 10AM is DAL at NYG, 1:25 is the local SEA vs. AZ game. In competition with Fox, KIMA is airing NYJ/NE and OAK/KC.

I'm shocked Asheville and Charlotte hasn't went with Philadelphia @ Washington.
What happened?

Now I know Charlotte would have to have the Panthers. And even though no one had anything to play for (but fans surely wanted just one win), you have to figure a third-string quarterback starting would be something to see.

Carolina was in the early game
late game was MN/Chicago in most of the US. The other games were basically regional
SF/LA Rams went to California and Reno market
Arizona/Seattle went to AZ/Washington/Idaho/Oregon/Western Montana
Philly/Washington went West Virginia/Virginia Northeast, Texas/Oklahoma (minus Houston)

It's still halftime and it's 6:20 ET of Bears/Eagles wild card game on NBC. Then right to Golden Globes after the game.

I'm surprised NBC didn't instead carry Cowboys/Seahawks on Saturday night last night instead of running the risk of a reverse Heidi (and likely angry Golden Globes or red carpet show fans that are uptight and perturbed that their awards show was being delayed).

Although I don't like awards shows, I would have made the Saturday games ABC/NBC only, then CBS/Fox for Sundays for the wild card weekend.
