That story was on Wednesday but obviously you are not a regular listener to "Handel on The News". The end of each 6am and also the 8:30am edition of HOTN always features some kind of weird stories, often involving gaseous (and other) intestinal emissions or offbeat sexcapades. Weird animal stories and human relationships thereto are also favorites.
They did the "official" turn on today though I think they have been at full power a lot of the time lately based upon my own reception perception not any actual field strength measurement.
I'm very familiar with Handel but the piece I'm referring to was aired during a break on Rush's show. Maybe around 10:30.
I stopped listening to Handel after his childish rant involving his two daughters in the elevator. I can't believe KFI let him get away with his teenage attitude.
What you heard was maybe a news tease or Handel promo. If it was a news tease then I too am surprised. I don't listen to Rush or anyone else on KFI, except Leo Laporte and Wayne Resnick on weekends, so I did not hear what you heard. I did catch the story, however, on Handel On The News.
As to Handel's studio rage, he is not the first nor will he be the last highly rated host to get a pass on boorish behavior. The basic rule is that if your show is billing high you're their guy.
To be fair, I think a part of the deal was that he go to "Anger Management" and I know he began going to a Shrink, though he doesn't mention it all that much. Handel is a hard worker, he does the weekend show plus the morning shows. He also has a Surrogacy Legal practice and does a lot of sponsored events and meet and greet for the station. People like that tend to be high strung and quick to blow their tops. At least that turned out better than John Kobylt's feud with Ziegler as Jamie White wasn't let go as a direct result of the war, but because of the ratings. John and Ken do not work nearly as hard and I've heard that they pretape a lot of their show, before I stopped listening I often heard while commuting the first hour repeated for the last hour of their show.
I do have to suspect that perhaps Zig wasn’t performing as well as they wanted either but still it was badly handled (no pun intended) by CC management. Ziegler is a lot better than Suits who was hired to take the 7 to 10pm slot. The replacement was so bad that they had to bring in a co-host to try and keep the ship afloat. Apparently it is working though I still can't listen for very long.
