Doesn't Springfield still have its FM station? I am aware that Tuned In owned it for a while, but I don't know what happened to it after that, and I don't live close enough to them to tune it in.
Nope. Saga bought it & moved it to Clarksville. (OK, "Oak Grove, Kentucky"...) It's 94.3 The Eagle with classic hits.
So it basically became a Clarksville "move-in"? What a waste! When I lived in Clarksville, everyone there listened to Nashville stations anyway! ??? So how many FMs are there in Clarksville now? There's Q-108, which is licensed to Ft. Campbell, and 97.5, which came on the air after I left that area, and may be a Hopkinsville station for all I know. And now 94.3, apparently. What else is there? I don't count WAPX, because it is Austin Peay's station, nor V-102.5 because it is a Nashville/Clarksville operation, despite its reception problems in some areas. I listen to V-102.5 because I can pick them up here in Pegram, and Q108, because I can get them on my car radio.

I am not real familiar with Saga. What else do they own?

And getting this back on topic, kinda sorta, I was listening to 97.1, and they played a listener comment, something to the effect of, "y'all are rockin' a lot harder (or sounding a lot better) than you used to." Why, how dare them dis the tower! ;D

I hope you can get V-102.5 OK in Pegram, because that's the city-of-license these days :)

How many FMs in Clarksville? Technically, from a city-of-license standpoint, two. WAPX and 88.3 Way FM. Yes, there are no commercial FM stations licensed to Clarksville.

As for the ones that are in fact serving Clarksville... I'd list:

88.3 Way FM (NOT a 100% relay of 88.7, it has local Clarksville material but not much.)
91.7 WAPX
94.3 The Eagle ("Oak Grove")
97.5 Z97-5 ("Hopkinsville")
98.7 WHOP-FM (Hopkinsville)
100.3 The Beaver ("Hopkinsville")
101.9 relay of 1550 AM (black gospel)
107.9 Q108 ("Fort Campbell")

There's an AM oldies station up there that recently got a FM translator as well but I forget whether the FM is in Clarksville or Hopkinsville. (at about 20 watts it won't cover both)

So that's five commercial FM stations that are not repeaters of FM signals. For the fifth largest city in Tennessee, that is not many. When I lived there in the early '90s, I listened to Q-108, Kool 100 in Hopkinsville (the one that is the Beaver now), and 105.1 out of Waverly or Dickson, oldies at the time, but Solid Gospel now. (105.1 is 50,000 watts, so they covered the Queen City quite well!) The others on your list either didn't exist yet, or were more Hopkinsville-oriented than Clarksville-oriented, or didn't have a strong enough signal to be useful to me.

Interesting that Way-FM is on 88.3 there. The only Way-FM signal I can currently get is also on 88.3. I seriously doubt I am receiving the signal from Clarksville! ??? Interesting that a Way-FM affiliate could originate some of their own material. I was not aware of that.

Okay, obviously meant to say "AM" signals there! ::) But I have been inspired by this thread to add a new signature line! ;D

Clarksville

It's certainly one of the largest cities in the country that is not a suburb of some larger city yet doesn't have a commercial FM. (might it possibly be the largest?)

The 88.3 "Clarksville" Way FM is running a fair amount of power (16kw?) and is on the same tower as V102.5 so I'd be pretty sure that is the signal you're hearing in Pegram. I don't know of any other Way FM signals on 88.3 around here. (there are some 88.1's and of course 88.7)

Pretty much all I've ever heard originated on 88.3 are PSAs/local event announcements, the music seems to be all parallel to 88.7. (and I'd bet it all comes from computers in Franklin)

Way has a local market manager and underwriter at the Clarksville location.. As a fully licensed operation.. They are highly directional, with a nul to the eastern third of the hypotheatical oval shape of a non-directional signal (protecting 88.1 at Fisk, and their own 88.1 near Bowling Green.. With a small adjacent channel being used in a small configuration in Hop'ville, they also have a translator off Clarksville up the commerical band..The next is Madisonville..They are looking at upgrading Robards, KY to Henderson, KY (Proper) and hit Evansville with it slapped on the side of one of the Wolf Hills TV towers on the south bluff of the Ohio River... I helped to build out the studio in Clarksville and fling the microwave tower on the back of the older office space in the south end of downtown Clarksville....

Way has a local market manager and underwriter at the Clarksville location..etc..etc... i didn't understand one d*#n..thing he said ..lol...whatever happened to the guy with the biggest stick wins ?? ???

Market Manager... A current term for local 'head of the station', under the network brass....
Underwritter... A person who, as in sales, who secures 'non-commerical' underwriter accounts to support the local station, along with developing individual listener and church support....

THAT part i figured out.i hear all of that from the buntin...i was refering to the null and void of a hyperbolemic pattern adjusted to some bluff over the highly directional squish pattern that crossfades to just south of oblivion nova scotia..of course this would all change at sunset..when you went to low power so you don't step on arbor mist inc..i just don't understand the tech stuff..my hat and hair is off to those of you that do..why can't everybody have a 5kw stick, a box of records and a board..and let the best rock roll.. ??? it used to work that way... :-\

Interesting that Way-FM's and V-102.5's antennae are on the same stick, yet Way advertises themselves as "Clarksville," while V-102.5 claims to be a "Pegram" station. Well, I have been a resident of both towns, and I can tell you that they are nearly an hour apart! ;D

Just goes to show you that "cities of license" don't really mean all that much.

Yep...COL's are rimshots these days... Though I can get from downtown Clarksville to the tower in about 15 minutes... (south)... "Skip"
