Is WROR Playing More 80s Music The Past Few Weeks ?

I have not listened nearly enough to know, however shouldn't they already be doing so by their mere branding of the station? IMO, they are much more of an pseudo 80's station instead! I mean within the past 48 hours, they played Van Morrison's "Brown Eyed Girl" again. Now, they probably been playing that title since the station's reinception. Now, when was that, the Autumn of 1995 or something?

It would be nice if the area had a true all 80's station, however with 80's songs (which are merely ok at best) splattered across the radio dial, it it not very likely at all. "Back To The 80's Saturday Night" plays truest form of what an all 80's station should sound like! And yet, even that brand of 80's music still leaves something to be desired!

Perhaps it was a typo and he meant to ask if they were playing more 90s music? If so then yes, they have added some 90s songs in the past few weeks. As for Brown Eyed Girl, I'm pretty sure that's the only 60s song they play.

WOW, 90's music now! I guess when the going gets tough, the tough gets going!

Not a typo.

I have heard Van Morrison, but haven't heard Steve Miller or The Eagles among other 70s songs so was wondering if they tossed tthem.

Haven't heard the 90s yet either.

Now this is only my opinion, however I personally feel that WROR's imaging has become stale, and really needs to be updated.

Take a look at the playlist history on their website. You'll see the Eagles and Steve Miller are still in there, just not as frequent as in the past. You'll see 90s songs from Hootie & The Blowfish and the Goo Goo Dolls.

It sounds like it to me, but I am not a full time listener.

Thoughts ?

When they rebranded to 80s and More in Jan 2019, they were 65%-70% 80's. Now they are about 80-85% 80's. Didn't happen overnight. They've been moving in that direction over the past few months.

According to "recently played" on their website, they played "Take It To The Limit" by The Eagles about an hour ago. "Hotel California" late this afternoon. "The Joker" by Steve Miller this morning. Still looks like around 1/3 '70s music.

I don't know '90s music well enough to identify a lot of it, but it's mostly '70s and '80s stuff that I know. And, their one '60s song, "Brown Eyed Girl" by Van Morrison, was played this evening.

As time marches on stations eliminate some very old stuff and play slightly more recent.
The word Oldies conjures up images of sock hops, early Beatles, Beach Boys. Now songs of the past are 80s or 90s or 00s and called classic hits or some other title.
1990 was 30 years ago. Ringo turns 80 next
month.
You could get talking to someone--"oh REM..saw them at Great Woods in 89"
"I wasn't even born yet," they reply. "What's Great
Woods?"

Worked at Bldg 19 in Lynn early 80s.They used to
play WCGY 93.7 "Blue Suede Radio" over P.A..Eventually they shifted to later stuff. As Eagle 93.7 they were hits of the 70s. Then "and now the 80s too!" WODS dumped Oldies nickname for The Greatest Hits and added
80s, with 50s and early 60s dumped earlier on.

Used to listen to WCGY when it was "FM 94", owned by Curt Gowdy....Played TM Rock format out of Dallas.....with a Schafer 903 automation system..
Never could seem to filter that 25 Hz tone off the reel-to-reel tapes.....!!!

That was George McCrae, "Rock Your Baby" ... and before that ... "Rub It In," Billy 'Crash' Craddock. .... and then the jingle "Niiine-ty-fourrrr, W-C-G-YYYYYY!"

It was the soundtrack to a very boring summer job I had after my freshman year of college.

Is More 80's Music Hurting WROR?

It appears that WROR's recent ratings have gone down and WZLX is rising. Does that correlate with the decrease in 70's music and the increase in 80's music in WROR's playlist? Does it not matter to them because the 80's music demo is more desirable? It doesn't appear that WBOS is gaining from WROR's ratings reduction.

Perhaps it has nothing to do with music, but rather the loss of radio listeners overall due to COVID, and that ROR hasn't recovered as quickly as others. ROR was fairly flat in 25-54, and they're #2 in cume, right behind Kiss.

Just a quick update: since my last post, it does seem as if WROR has updated their imaging a bit!

Since listening a bit, it has been all 80s, with the 2 vast exceptions of Queen's "We Will Rock You/We Are The Champions"-Queen, and "Beautiful Day"-U2.

One last thing, I just caught a promo for WROR's "5 Song Million Dollar Pay off!" Now does this remind anybody of the infamous WKRP in Cincinnati's contest at all? :D
