It's that time of the year...

I didn't even realize betting windows were open yet but 107.3 in Roch is playing Christmas music. Sigh. Not sure when/which Buffalo station will take the plunge first to complete the daily double bet.

There you have it. Please hold all tickets until this is declared official. Next year remember to get your bets in early to avoid getting shut out.

Oh Joy...

According to it's playlist, as posted on Tune Genie, WJYE-96.1 did flip at 1:45 P.M. EDT this afternoon (November 2nd).

Had WTSS-102.5 flipped on a weekday, WJYE probably would have responded within a few minutes.

WTSS_FM Star 102.5 officially started Christmas music with Andy Williams "Happy Holidays" at 8:00 am this morning 11/2. Source: Their AVAir LTX logfile.

It's become an annual tradition:

Earlier today I once again removed 96.1 & 102.5 from my presets. They will return after New Year's Day. Ironically, the only week I really think they should be playing lots of Christmas music, is the week betwen Christmas & New Year's. Of course on Dec. 26th, both stations resume their normal playlist.

Just my personal opinion, but I belive the same people who can listen to one-sided hyperpartisan talk all day long are the same type of people who can listen to Christmas music for two months: Braindead.

Is 107.3 in Rochester changing format after Christmas? Or are they in format with Christmas classics? (Christmas oldies)

Christmas music should be limited to December 18 to December 31. That's more than enough and the way it used to be done. Who needs 2 months of Christmas music?

Couldn't agree more. I like Christmas music, around Christmastime. I honestly don't understand how anybody can get into that a couple days after Halloween...and then for week after week for two months. It makes me queezy.

I'd wager Jack, WHTT and perhaps WYRK will now attract more than a few listeners who can't tolerate listening to wall-to-wall Christmas music on 96.1 and 102.5 seven weeks prior to Christmas. As Casey once said, "Ponderous..."

In the past, WHTT has done Christmas music on an alternate stream for those who just can't get enough.

Either Star or Joy - I don't remember which one - is planning to continue Christmas music until Jan. 1. It will be interesting to see if the other station follows that idea.

Count me in with the "not until Thanksgiving" crowd. I understand that Thanksgiving is very late this year, but that doesn't excuse starting weeks earlier than ever before. I hope that the ratings will punish them. I fear that they will not.

Kind of hard to find Christmas in a lot of places. Christmas perhaps used to be done 12/18-12/31, but people were never used to reaching and grasping for anything they could grasp and hold that was pure, wholesome and lovely - just a few of those tangible intangibles that Christmas represents, beyond the commercial - in a world where Halloween increasingly seems to last all year.

Did you have a tooth pulled today?

Ok, I think the ticket windows are open early enough this year. Who and when, Roch and Buff, for the all Christmas music? Winners receive bumper stickers for WJYE and The Fox.

Resurrecting the All Christmas Music thread from 2013. Nice. Re-cycling is so good for the environment. This is like a literary re-current. The Fall 2014 book concludes Wednesday, December 3rd. http://www.arbitron.com/home/surveysched.asp Buffalo remains a diary market. Diaries track listening from Thursday - Wednesday. So back-track. A start date of November 6th for All Christmas would allow four glorious weeks of All Christmas Music bliss. I suspect one of the two prospective AC's will jump the gun and begin ACATT (All Christmas All The Time) on November 5th. My buck tree eighty is on Star rolling first followed minutes later by Mix.

But. Wouldn't it be interesting if Mix 96, under the direction of Dave Universal, took a different approach that gradually increases the Christmas hits as the holiday gets closer? "You told us you love Christmas music, but not two months before Christmas." It's a big gamble because ACATT generates massive Women shares, all of which would go to Star if Mix stays on the sidelines and takes a gradual approach to Christmas music. Or would they? Mix could roll the dice in an attempt to establish a comfortable and secure niche between Star and Kiss and do quite well. Then again... Survey sez "Too Much Risk." PDs don't get paid to take chances, they get paid to win. Expect both Star and Mix to do what they've always done.

Some stations have ALREADY flipped to XMAS.
STAR & MIX will probably flip November 1.
Why lose the first November weekend by waiting.
Both stations formats aren't compelling anyway, so they lose
nothing by the switch.

XMAS Music formats serve the retailers not the sheep who listen...

True, but most stores play music from satellite delivered services while Suzie Creamcheese listens to Star or Mix. Mind numbing. If the CIA really wants to break the detainees at Gitmo, don't water board them. Just play all Xmas 24-7 for a few months. That'll make the bastards talk.
