Jammin' 103.1 Debuts in Austin

About 30 or so miles away from Austin, not bad since KHHL was trying to bleed in.

I'm having problems in my car with KHHL near Manchaca & Slaughter. Are you using a directional antenna?

My truck will pick up KHHL most of the time, but when I did that air check I used the internal FM antenna that my Sangean table top radio has. It does a really good job.

Why would they put something like that on a "country" station on HD-2? Why not put it on KHFI HD-2? If I would of known it was on HD-2 I could of made the aircheck off of the HD channel. Maybe they want to run KVET to the ground and then flip it to Jammin 98.1.

I hear the voiceover ID as KPEZ HD-2, followed by the FM Translator for 103.1 Are you sure it is not on 102.3 HD2?

Last time I tuned in to 102.3 with my HD Radio was a while back, they did not have a sub channel up. I will check today if I remember when I get home.

To clear things up, 103.1 is on 98.1 HD-2, 102.3 does have a HD-2 channel, like pop // hip hop format.

I have hooked up my HD radio, having 1 bar of battery left, to my DVD recorders AV2 inputs, and recording KVET-FM HD2 as I am posting this, starting with Whitney Houston's Emotional.

KPEZ HD-2 Doesn't exist on my tuner, but KVET HD-2 is what I am hearing!

Looks like KVET will probally flip, I guess they are trying to garner the listeners from 98.9 and promote KHFI, and KPEZ. Jammin had over a decade with their format.

Is it just me or has the music mix already changed? Since Tuesday's launch, it seems there's been a marked shift ... more of the recent stuff, less of the older stuff. Not really digging it anymore.

I like the newer music, but as I said in the other thread, I agree that the music selection is all over the place. If they are going choose a set format then choose it, quit going one way say one thing and then going another.

When the Zone was being simulcast on 103.1, the origination was KVET-HD2 so I think when they changed it to Jammin they just left that connection. Probably less paperwork. I don't think CC really sees any connection between the HD-2 channels and the primary FM channels. There are probably less HD radios in Austin then there are Billboards for the University of Oklahoma.

You are also probably not in the target demo.

Perfect example, and old Stevie wonder song "If You Love me" or whatever the name is, next up comes Amber - Sexual

I liked them Sunday night they played Feels Good by Toni Toni Tone followed by 2 in a Room's Wiggle It. Monday I heard a song I only heard last in 1994 on KTFM "I'll be loving you all my life" by Stevie B in the 4 o'clock hour followed by some 2009 song.

Advice to Jammin' We can do without the songs past 2000, with the exception of Daft Punk of course.

But they seem to fit the format of Urban Oldies/Rhythmic. Add sounding like a train wreck.

They should play music from 1970s, 80s, 90s, and hold off on those 2000s or do 1 or 2 per hour of 2000s.

I still think it is a stunt since I hear no commercials like Mega.

I don't know, they wouldn't go through all the trouble to make a Facebook page. LOL.

Keep listening and they'll probably start adding commercials. It seems that new stations need time to build up some advertisers, take 106.7 in SA for example. Every time they flip they go commercial free the first couple weeks or however long that is.

I'll Ve Loving You is by Collage not Stevie B by the way.

Mega also had a facebook page for it's 102.7. Having a facebook page means nothing these days.

When 106.7 Jamz flipped they touted 10,670 songs in a row commercial free October 4, 2001 when riding with a friend from Houston to San Antonio, Texas.

Jammin and Mega didn't tout that.

They're now running local traffic updates on Jammin'. That kinda surprised me since it's jockless and, IMHO, adds some legitimacy to the station.
