It appears I have started quite the little discussion here. Let us look at what the word "legend" really means.
By definition, a "legend" is most known as being something that gets handed down from generation to generation. It can be stories or events. We use this word to describe certain people because they have done something that the people (or the generations) around them remember, giving them a "fame" of sorts and then these things are passed down.
I've read all of your posts and have seen some of the names you listed. Think about why those people came to mind. Is it because they have been around for a long time or because they did something you remember or heard about? Or is it a combination of these things?
When I think of local legends (in radio), I do not think of Jerry Fisher. I think of Tod Jeffers, Kevin Nelson, Wendy Williams, Fran Fisher, and Roger Cory (sp?). Why? Not just because they were on the radio for a long time or because they have been on the radio for a long time, but because they all have done something that makes them memorable. These people have worked on the radio and done things on the radio that made or makes the listener want to hear what they have to say. They make people want to talk about what they are talking about.
They have also had or have incredible ties in their respective localities where their stories are told over and over again to people from all walks of life. And none of these legends I mentioned made it to their status on daddy's last name. They've all achieved radio greatness because they were/are great at what they did/do on the radio.
As for ameyer...well sir, you know my name. Could be my first name or my last name. Does it really matter? I know who you are and what you do but it is not an influence on what I think about what you say. I would have the same opinion if you were completely anonymous to me. The "show your face" tactic gets thrown out a lot on boards like these in order to try and discredit someone. It is a cheap and immature tactic and it is dreadfully overused. Anonymous or not, my opinion means only as much as people want it to mean regardless of identity.
