Right now, even though David says they could make more money doing sports,

How do you know? Got an inside source at CBS headquarters? Or just speculating like the rest of them? No matter what David Eduardo says, it won't happen unless CBS wants it to. Right now, even though David says they could make more money doing sports, there is an over-saturation of sports in LA and none of them really do that well, though they may make money they don't make great ratings,
Kaye apparently has his detractors. There are tose who feel that KRTH will fail as time goes on because of audience aging out of the demos. This is a well thought out scenario and I tend to agree that unless the station can evolve, it will eventually die. But it is evolving, into the 80's now and in time they will add 90's or die trying. Kaye proved that a great PD can fix a format. Problem is, there aren't that many great PD's, and even the good ones are at the mercy of the "suits" who have f'd up this industry to the point where it's being written off by every naysayer with a computer.

This is 2013, which is...let me do the math here...twenty years past 1993. (I'm very good at math.) Is it time for a 1980s-90s oldies station? Would such a format work on KRTH? Not that anyone at KRTH would be that daring, but there are hundreds of 1980s-90s pop and r&b songs---no hard rock, thank you---that could fill a playlist: Jewel, Phil Collins, Paul McCartney, Elton John, Genesis, Chicago, Men At Work, Cyndi Lauper, Lionel Richie, Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Real McCoy, Ace Of Base, Commodores, Boyz II Men, Duran Duran, Culture Club, New Kids On The Block, and many others.....and we wouldn't have to keep hearing burned-out songs that we got sick of hearing when we were in high school---Brown Eyed Girl, Happy Together, Oh Pretty Woman and Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye chief among them.

That would be a horrible radio station. How about Depeche Mode, The Clash, R.E.M. Modern English, Bananarama, Duran Duran, Michael Jackson.Big Country. None of that soft rock you mentioned KOST has those artists. New order, The Flirts. I remember modern oldies on KCBQ the day they flipped every song was bad. With major repetition.

I really think, especially in L.A. that a "KROQ oldies" format is overdue.

You could argue that LA already has a "KROQ oldies" format. Most of what you speak of is being played on Jack/KCBS FM which is programmed by the same man.
