Jim's doing a remote at the new bar Fred's 209. Of course, once you leave Fred's 209, you can't set foot in another bar for 12 months.

Hey Doc Akbar......radio IS crack.......although I don't remember how to login as such anymore.....and assuming the economy doesn't crater FOREVER, I will be the first guy back on the corner trying to buy some. East Valley Radio WILL return (and a couple of other projects I've been cooking up, too). I totally believe in the concept and I'm proud of the execution of the show, but I have misjudged the startup cost and won;t be back until I've fixed that problem.

I've also had some a couple fruitful meetings with radio honchos in town and things is developin'!

Of course, it's got to make business sense, or why bother.

Hmmm...does this mean a pending offer for Lumberyard 14~Forty? If so, please allow Nurse Jeff and me to introduce you to Jim Sharpe as once in radio you're always lookin' ;D

We noticed you said "...it's got to make business sense..." and wonder if you realize nothing about radio makes business sense?

Actually, no...although I did have a cursory conversation with Artigue once regarding buying or LMA'ing KAZG and was shut down immediately, with Chuck saying that ownership has NO interest in either case. He said he had other offers in the past ad passed them up as well. At the time, I had people willing to finance the deal, but apparently Sandusky is happier to hold 'em than fold 'em.

If I'm able to make anything happen on the other things I'm working on, you'll be the first among the first 1000 to know.

AND you're right......in radio you had always BETTER be lookin, because there is always somebody looking for a better deal than you to replace you with. The only satisfaction I am taking these days is that the hump who replaced me in Dallas (Bill O'Reilly) is losing his radio job, likely in January. He never has done ratings anywhere but on TV, but his TV allure (not his radio chops) cost quite a few good broadcasters their jobs when he surfaced on radio in 2001-2202...one of which was me, when Westwood One gave KLIF his show for FREE so as not to lose market #5. KLIF had a choice of paying me for proven ratings, or getting him and his fame for free. Guess which one they picked? But I'm not bitter. Ha!

I promised myself when I got into radio at the advanced age of 42 that I would stay in it as long as I could PROGRESS....move up in market size, money, etc. When it looked I would have to break my rule (jobs in Dallas and Phoenix were all spoken for at that time and KFI in LA offered me a weekend gig only ), I bagged on radio and my old ad agency kindly invited me back at my old title and job.

It wasn't long before I realized that of the jobs I have done since I entered the workforce in 1969, I dearly loved and was best suited to being on the radio most of all. So, I have decided that I will figure out a way to keep my hand in the game, whether that be part-time or full, self produced or as an employee. Reaction to my work has always been favorable, so I don't think that's a terrible thing.

I once equated getting into radio in my 40's as 'running away with the circus" . It still feels that way sometimes, but damn, I love the midway.

YIKES! Your story sounds like several mid to late life crises! I'll remind Nurse Jeff to avoid showing you the balcony at our Buckeye Media Hut.

Sorry but the KLIF calls will always remind us of the once Mighty 11~Ninety, a McLendon Station. With 4 towers day and 12 at night, they ruled RF as well as Dallas for years. To keep this all on subject, we wonder if Jim Sharpe ever worked the Metroplex? Have there been any Sharpe sightings around Reunion Tower?

Like those Chia Pet commercials, Jim Sharpe keeps returning to radio. Friday morning he was one of the judges on Bruce Jacobs' Christmas parody broadcast on KFWhyEye. The Nurse and I wonder if he found the dig at KT'R as funny as we did?

K. T. A. Are ...is it raining where you are?

What dig on KTAR?!? I'll be asking that very question tomorrow morning when I fill in for Ned.

Wow.

Filling in for NED?!? How far have I fallen? :-\

Jim,

With all the axes falling be glad nobody has been transferred up here... -15 during the day (-25 tomorrow) With near -45 windchills

No wonder Phoenix has snowbirds! :-[

Who were the other judges?

Has Jim Sharpe set a new record for The Least Amount of Time Between Appearing on KFYI and KTAR?

While the Sharpester was a guest judge last Friday on KFWhyEye, not a host, you raise a very good question. The Nurse and I'll have to go back into the Media Hut archieves and work on that one. We do recall David Leibowitz going back and forth between KFWhyEye and KT'R a number of times as well as Bill Heywood, Michael Dixon, Charles Goyette, Tom Dillon, Heidi Fogelsong, Michael Anthony, and a bunch more.

And so a topic we thought would come to it's end this year, will live to see another several thousand postings in 2009. Thank you Al Gore for inventing the internet!

What is the record? The time it took to go from one building to another... ???

The Sharpemeister can now be Mayor Phil's "environmentalist broadcaster" by taking
the K-Lite Rail from 55/FYI to KT'R. Just tell them you're doing a story and they'll
waive the $1.25 fare. ;)

(Although it may not set a record for transit time, it's already been grafitti-ized, and
it's been dinged by a hit-and-run Honda.)

I shouted to the driver, hey conductor you must
slow down it's KT'R, please let me off this bus.

*: Nadine by Chuck Berry (lyrics slightly altered)

"....take the last train to Camelback and I'll meet you at the station..." The Sharpemeister will have to look into alternative modes of transportion as KT'R will be moving up to Squaw Piestawa Peakerman and there aint no trolleys going there yet!
