i remeber that when a spors ran over it used to make me mad like when nbc preempted splid gold to carry the finish of a dodgers priates baseball game in 85

There was once during an NBA playoff game that ran over a few years back that WPTY (Now WATN) ABC 24 in Memphis ran an infomercial after the game that ran in full, but then joined a Seinfeld rerun in progress afterward. They apparently decided they'd rather make the people who wanted to watch Seinfeld mad rather than the people paying for the infomercial.

did nbc ever had to delay their Saturday night lineup for mlb i was thinking of a dodgers pirates game in 85 with phil stone and mike shannon or cubs mets in 88 with vin scully and joe gragagiola

I forgot to say this on Monday. After a race, they had he opening credits on "The Simpsons" but then a voice said they were joining it in progress. This was a rerun, where it would be less of a problem. I was relieved, because that would have thrown off the whole night. I was taping four of the five other shows. Normally, "The Simpsons" wouldn't have taped because the episode aired less than a month earlier, but I record everything in that slot just as a precaution. That's where shows I might watch which aren't on my list tend to air.

not sports related but in 1990 didn't abc slide china beach for the state of the union address?

It always happened when the president spoke that meant the news started late same thing with Monday night football the news would start when the game ended

Yes, that follows when network programming is either delayed for something like a Presidential address or because of a live sporting event earlier in the evening. I'm having trouble figuring out just what your point is in saying that. Could you please be a little clearer?

i am just stating the fact i have the news delayed a lot whither it was for sports or the network sliding the schedule

this might be a good question to ask but what if game a runs really long i remember that sometimes wlos's sign off would be delayed to air local news and nightline? how nbc did handle late running baseball and johnny carson? just asking thanks

My recollection (and it is only that; I cannot find any confirmation of this) is that on evenings where NBC had sports programming that ran in prime time a Carson rerun was scheduled because of the high probability that he would air much later than usual in the east.

Now, if you are talking about a local station's commitment to carry games of a local team, then NBC had no say in it, so they did not "handle" anything. In those circumstances, if Carson ran late, he ran late ... just as Nightline ran late on your ABC station as you recalled above.

The difference is that in the first example, the entire network was affected. In the second, only one station was.

i am talking about mnf or nbc postseason baseball or nba postseason on nbc or abc

i wonder what year did the networks switch to having full analysis after the state of the union address instead of sliding network programming?

The same could also be said of Saturday Night Live.
