Never believe anything anyone in management ever says at any time.

(no Celtics games those nights?)

I think Saturday morning from 9 to noon would be a much better time.

Generally the Celtics don't play on Thursdays at home - Wednesday, Friday and Sunday are their nights at the Garden. The road schedule is different, but unless it's a marquee game for TNT that doesn't happen that often either. The three Thursday games during this time period are all 8p or later starts.

They had a woman named Jen on this AM. I got the impression that she's hot looking, but I have to say that she's got a very nasal and whiney voice. I'm rooting for for Pete Sheppard.

Also, slightly off topic, they had a "comedian" named Tracy Morgan on this AM. I'm not famailiar with his work, but he didn't come off as a barrel of laughs to me. He sounded like he was very annoyed to be talking to them. Why would they have a guy like that on?

Morgan was on Sat Night Live and is on 30 Rock. Controversies include: describing Sarah Palin as "good masturbation material". He's made remarks about "women who have retarded kids" and said in a routine that if his son was gay he'd "better talk to (him) like a man or I'll pull out a knife and stab him". All resulted in apologies. He's appeared in a bunch of films including Little Man, where he played half of a jewel-thief duo, the other half being a man the size of a toddler (the face of Marlon Wayans was superimposed on the body of a boy with dwarfism). Other movies include Half Baked,
How High, Rio (cartoon voice), Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, and Death At A Funeral

Tracy Morgan can be great on radio. T&R had him on when they did afternoons and he was hilarious. They just let him talk for about 40 minutes in studio. D&C aren't T&R so you can see why Morgan wouldn't work with the former.

"Jen" is Jen Royle. She left Baltimore radio amidst a fight with some sports radio host. She ended up suing him for defamation. She returned here last spring and was rumored to be joining one of the radio or cable stations, which hasn't happened except for a few guest appearances.

Also, Finn mentioned Kevin Winter from ESPN Radio might audition for Meter's former position, but he would stay with ESPN Radio some how.

I missed the first part of the interview, so I thought they were talking about Stephen A. Smith's latest gaffe. I, truthfully, didn't know the guy was a comedian until they said he was appearing somewhere tonight. He didn't say anything that was even mildly amusing. He sounded angry.

Unless she's appealing to the TV audience, I think they can do better than Jen. If NESN is insisting on eye-candy, they should get someone with a pleasant voice and a sense of humor. If not, get Pete the Meat .

they just let him talk
The guy has problems. I'm sure the button was in close range. Sounds medicated at times.

Kevin Winter

Don't dig him. Sorry.

She left Baltimore radio amidst a...
A game girl who's advanced beyond her abilities. I like her but the act needs to be turned down a notch.

Rule #2. Believe messageboard trolls because they're always right.

Based on the reaction on yesterday's whiner line, she has to do a little more than turn it down. Her act went over like a lead balloon. Of course you never know with this outfit. They still have Muttnansky on five days a week.

Thursday is largely a day off for the NBA. Beyond TNT's doubleheader you might get a game or 2 regionally a week.

I get the impression that his family is fairly well-off, maybe he's independently wealthy.

His dad was the guy who sold and produced the Beacon Sports broadcasts.

Beacon Sports was Neil Cortell

Meter's dad works for the Red Sox as a tourguide. He is 81 and still going strong.

Steve had a hand in it, too, at least in the mid-'90s.

Also, pretty sure young Meter was "Stan the Fan" on WKOX's PM drive sports show around that time.

like a lead balloon

I like Jen (we have her alma mater in common). I just thought her drinking story --I only heard a few min's-- wasn't a great start.

I heard Meter today for the first time --Pbp--this season. He sounded pretty good. Carried away at times but not too shabby. If he can clean up a few things maybe his move will make sense (maybe positioning himself for Gil's job).

Understatement of the week. month year decade century millenium eternity.
Listening to Meter do a B.C. game is funny, until you realize that he's not trying to be funny He's been ridiculed on the air about his over the top style, but has done nothing to change it. I think he's actually gotten worse.

As far as Jen goes, I hope I've heard the last of her. Mike Adams was on today. Wouldn't this be a demotion for him if he were to take the flash job? I know a lot of people think he's an idiot, but for some reason he makes me laugh. I've heard him say "I banged her" a million times, but I still laugh.

I guess D&C have been muzzled as far as politics go. It must be killing them.

He doesn't have the talent to "position" himself for an NFL PBP job.

You will have names with NFL play by play experience in the hunt for this one and people who have done football but who have also done other major league sports. The guy they hire will be a major player in sports broadcasting in the market; it ain't gonna be a rookie

A guy who does soccer off the television set, or who goes over the top trying to develop catch phrases has no chance.

I would be shocked if he got the Pats' job. That organization takes their business very seriously. Gil Santos is one of the most respected guys in the business. They won't replace him with someone who is the butt of so many jokes. They won't find anyone with Gil's credentials, but you can bet they'll be looking for a seasoned pro. Sean McDonagh or Dave O'Brien come to mind, if their current contractual obligations allow it.

I think that the listeners in the Boston market know too much about Meter for him to be taken seriously here. He's been type-cast as the weasely little geek who's afraid of everything and sits down to pee. If he wants to be a major league level announcer, it won't be here.

The best Meterparel moment was when he was a minor league baseball announcer with the catch phrase SSSSSSee You Later for home runs, and one time he had difficulty telling whether the ball was out, so he just ended up saying, SSSSSSSSSSSSSS.

D & C played it quite a bit.
