July Ratings Boston

Ladies and Gentlemen: a milestone. This is the first time in the history of PPM that, outside of the holiday books, WXKS-FM is not number 1.

How about that share and a half drop for The Sports Hub? That's more than a normal ebb and flow. That's a flat-out drop.

AllAccess PPM Ratings Analysis with top-5-in-demo breakouts for July 2013 (scroll down for Boston):

http://www.allaccess.com/net-news/a...ppm-analysis-for-houston-washington-d-c-phila

This survey covers the period from Thu. 6/20/13 - Wed. 7/17/13.
Next survey is for August 2013 covering Thu. 7/18/13 - Wed. 8/14/13 with the data release date of Wed. 9/4/13 (delayed one day due to Labor Day holiday).

Re: likely cause of WBZ-FM drop - the Bruins last game of the Stanley Cup Finals vs. the Blackhawks was on June 24, the fifth day of the July survey period.

Might be a flat-out drop, but it was expected with the Bruins bowing out and no real Pats stuff.
WEEI was not a beneficiary of it which shows how mired in "Loserville" they are.

First pre-season Pats game Friday means WBZ-FM should start marching upwards again.

Was WKLB doing Taylor Swift giveaways in July for her concert ?

and WEEI dropped as well - no Red Sox bounce.

2.9-3.4-3.2 isn't a drop in the PPM world. That's the movement of meters. It's a margin of error.

Needless to say, it still ain't good. WEEI continues to be a shell of its former self.

Country # 1 in Boston !?!?

Could this be a workplace revolt against the increasingly rhythmic lean of AC? Have WMJX and WBMX become too "hot" for conservative bosses to set their office radios to, leaving contemporary country as the genre least likely to offend?

So these ratings are 6AM-midnight? Are there any specific ratings for overnight time slots, or certain hosts/shows?

Yes, but none of that will ever be public. I'm still amazed the once mighty 850 scored a lowly .3
As long as ESPN's checks clear, right?

So this AMP 103.3 experiment is going well (sarcasm)...

Looks like they'd rather have their 2.8 share of mainly late teens and twenty-somethings than their former much larger audience of mainly fifty-plus-somethings (like me) for their former classic hits/oldies format.

Will WBQT bill well enough to make its position worth it?

Though WBQT is aimed at a somewhat older audience than WXKS-FM "Kiss", it's presence (and the presence of WODS "Amp") may have helped erode "Kiss's" numbers just enough to help allow WBQT's co-owned country station WKLB to claim #1.

Interesting...and why is that? Do they not want to "hurt people's feelings", or is it due to something else. Doesn't make sense not to offer those results to the public. ???

Why? Simple...money. Like it or not Arbitron spent a crapload o'cash getting those numbers and they're not a charity. They have real value to radio stations and ad agencies. If they were public no one would pay and Arbitron would be out of business...then no numbers for anyone.

I bet ad agencies would rather a 2.8 18-34 than a 4 share 55+. Sad but seemingly true.

Overnights (12A-6A) is an unrated daypart, so you will never see numbers for that as they do not exist. As for specific dayparts, you'd have to be a subscriber to see those.

Bigger shocker: Country 102.5 knocked off Jamn out of #2 spot in 18-34 demo. It cost Jamn's PM driver Bobby Blaze a job 2day.

‏@bosshogg1701
could also be the saturation of the market with that kind of music

@bostonradio
Overall radio audience is at 243 million listeners per week. 72 million listen to hit radio. I cant see this trend reversing
