K-Soul is gone!!!!

They haven't changed anything yet, of course not. If they've gone younger on several of their other UAC's just put 2 & 2 together. This is Radio One we're talking about, u know they'll be targeting a black demo. This is market 4, u know they're not about to go gospel..there's no money there. They've already got a mainstream station..be for real now. I stay in Charlotte, their UAC is still yonger, but very conservative & quiet storm heavy. They've gotten comfortable & they're something like 16th 6+, their gospel station pulls better #'s. They only have 1 local ft jock, no community presence & still broke. CBS V101.9 & Power 98 haven't felt any impact, they're still winning by big #'s & musically, Terri Avery isn't even that good.

U would think that a company that only targets a black audience would have the black radio game on lock...this is just pathetic

That station sounded better as Magic 94.5 in 2001. Visiting family in Dallas we perfered them over 105.7 which is a crappy signal. More than likey it will be called The New MyKSOUL 94.5 just like WMMJ and WFUN. When they relaunch it will be commerical free on the first weekend and youll hear 80's and 90's Hip Hop and R&B on the station. Basically the stuff K104 and The Beat use to play. The relaunch of WFUN in St Louis is kinda settle in. Not really a WOW I remeber that song anymore.

Perhaps you all won't have to hear me call it "K-Sock" anymore.

And still no station out there for the affluent, slightly older black audience. Sad.

I had my radio on 94.5 all night, and I think they played every song in their music library. I heard everything, and if a song was repeated, it was not too often.

The only jock that KSOC have is Tom Joyner, the rest is jockless

KKDA Soul 73.
KHVN

I'm just wondering how long will we have to wait to hear the "new" 94.5?

How long will we have to wait on a signal upgrade?

The signal can't be upgraded anymore because of 94.1. The best that we can hope for is a real focus on their target demo, very fresh imaging, and dynamic personalities. Unfortunately they are still going to have Joyner in the Morning. The rest of the dayparts....?????????

I said "affluent"...KKDA-AM has always been a militant station, and I've said this on here many times before. Most affluent people of any race are not militant. That's beside the point, anyway. I don't know a thing about KHVN, except that it has a black religious format, and that it, unfortunately, displaced KNOK and KSAX way back when. What I envision is an FM station (even K-Sock with its poor signal that ISN'T fixable would do) that caters to the non-militant, non-hip-hop, non-mixshow, non-gangsta-loving segment of the black population. I'd guess that segment would be over 30, both male and female, and living comfortably or is mildly affluent to very affluent. You program some modern "light adult contemporary" R&B hits with some select smooth jazz tracks, mixed with a few select R&B oldies AND some positive, contemporary gospel. You do the Quiet Storm at night. What you'd end up with is a CLASSY black station that doesn't talk down to the race it primarily serves. You get a responsible, FULLTIME programmer who can tweak things to make it just right (Keith Solis comes to mind...the CREATOR of The Quiet Storm, while at KNOK in 1985.) And you'd have to find a maverick sales manager who could use his/her brain to come up with creative ways to sell it...since it's uncharted territory and no one in DFW has ever had the b@lls to even attempt to sell it in the past (see KOAI, c. 2001-03.)

K-Sock has been on auto-pilot for years, and it sounds like it. KRNB? I don't know what that chef's mix of uneven, assorted crap is that they're playing. Why not create a radio station that actually shows black audiences some respect??

06/06/11 From Allaccess:

ALL ACCESS has learned that RADIO ONE Urban AC KSOC (94.5KSOUL)/DALLAS will be upgrading their transmitter.

They are supposed to move up thirty feet and be top-mounted, which should improve their coverage significantly in the DALLAS FT- WORTH Metroplex. Meanwhile, according to radio-locator.com, they’re operating on their back-up transmitter until the upgrade is completed.

591 meters to 600 meters in height is under a 2% increase in height. While pole mounting on the top of a tower is often superior to side mounting, a rimshot can usually benefit from being side mounted with the bays facing the intended market area. the pattern distortion of the tower nudges the signal towards the market.

The data on file for the CP indicates that the 60 dbu contour moves about a mile and a fraction... this does not look like anything that the average listener... or potential listener... will even notice.

The population in the 60 dbu increases from 4.514 million to 4.572 million... essentially no change.

Radio Online is saying that Baisden is gone from 94.5.

The Sale is eminent. Don't know who, but Magic Johnson as in town a week ago with his team. I'm just saying.

BEEN LISTENING OVERNIGHT FOR ABOUT A HOUR. THE MUSIC IS SLOW AND MELLOW WHICH IS COOL FOR OVERNIGHT HOURS. HOWEVER, MOST R1 URBAN ACs ARE SHIFTING TO A 90s AND NOW R&B FORMAT.

Looked at the yes log for today most of it is slow. Even durig this afternoon I was listening on Tune In. Its sad what has become of that station over the past 10 years. I always perefed them over KRNB who has gone through alot of flips from Urban Oldies and back to Urban AC

I think it's going to be a couple of weeks before we know what the format is going to be. Interesting that they got rid of Baisden, but that's what I heard also.
