K104 morning show

He hasn't officially started. They are still "looking" for him.

Well Buck Wilde is officially on the air this morning. So far, he has added more variety than Skip did, but I still hate that they are not doing a news or sports segment.

The jury is still out with me... He and his crew don't sound too polished. But I realize they're still getting used to the place. So far, I give him a "meh"..

He never did that in Birmingham either. That was always one of my biggest complaints about his morning show. K-104 should pull their public affairs coordinator and have them deliver the news daily on air and hire somebody that knows local sports like the back of their hand. One thing I've always noticed about his presentation is his targeting of the fickle, younger end of the demographic rather than the more loyal 25-34 year olds that also enjoy contemporary urban music (hip-hop & R&B).

They had that with Chris Arnold and Sam Putney.

Oh, I remember them both very well, and still pissed that they laid them off. However, look at how they are running K-104 these days, a kiddie-oriented urban station. I'm not trying to throw shade at "BuckWilde" aka Sammy Mack talent, but that's how operates a show aimed at the "immature-minded" listener. Management at Service Broadcasting needs to get a clue and realize that in this current PPM environment that dayparting is the only way you are going to survive as an urban these days.

That's why UACs 9 out of 10 times win in most markets because adults can loyal whereas the younger audience will change the station in a heartbeat.

I agree, but in this market, besides the signal issue, what is it going to take for our 2 urban ac's to win?

K104 needs something as it is trending down. It is no longer the Power House it was, Sad to see that happen. Lets hope they don't get consultants to fix it. tha that will kill it for sure.

They need to do something about KRNB's signal. It keeps getting knock off the air on my radio.

There is nothing that can be done. They would have done it by now, especially since that was the baby of Ken Dowe.

ON SIGNAL: They need to get better full market coverage, but considering how crowded the Metroplex is with C-grade signals that attempt is futile. DFW is like Atlanta, a major "move-in" radio market.

ON PROGRAMMING: I've noticed that DFW audience has never really cared for the full-fledged UAC format (hence why KRBV met its demise). Maybe it has do to the region's higher than average younger demographics among the usual urban music audience??? The only thing Service can do is make do with KRNB (likely as an urban oldies formatted station to protect K-104) and just let K-104 go back to being a full-service urban since it's the only one with a full market coverage. Service might want to take some tips from Rick Caffety & Reggie Rouse @ CBS Radio Atlanta on how to program a station like K-104. Apparently, they know something that Service doesn't.

They have to make do with the lemons they have and just make lemonade...

KRBV went away because of the decision made by the engineers and GM at the time to put the Oasis back on the air first before V100. When the Oct. 96 tower accident happened, apparently it was easier to get KOAI back on the air before KRBV. So thats what they did. V100 never recovered from that decision. KRNB still had MAJOR issues with their signal at that time. V100's ratings were very good during that time. Trust me, when you have a full signal UAC station on the air in this market, it will be successful. V100 was very successful. I was there. The moral was high, and everyone loved working there.

What if CBS took 107.5 and made it an Urban AC, would that work. I will have a better signal?

Yeah like in the 70's and 80's when it was KNOK.

yeah, but would CBS do that. I don't think anything will happen to 105.3 until after the Rangers and Cowboy season is over, but 105.3 would be a good Urban AC station with a srtong signal. They might could get the floowing that KRBV did.

As much we would like The Fan to go away, CBS would not have hired Bruce Gilbert to fix it. I don't think CBS will flip any station to urban anytime soon.
