Since they are paying him for two more years why not bering The Russ Martin Show back from 3p - 7p? All sports is obviously not working for them... Let Jagger run 5a - 10a stick a show from 10a - 3p (Ben & Skin, Salisbury & Scruggs...whatever) and keep Pete and M-Rod @ 7p. They could still carry Ranger games, Cowboy games and TMS...
2 thing, actually 3.
1.
why not bering The Russ Martin Show back from 3p - 7p Because teh advertisers want absolutely NOTHING to do with an accused woman beater. Check his ratings they weren't 'that' bad (off from his high of a few years ago, but still decent) his problem is that advertisers wanted nowhere near the 3-7 shift. And you generally get much higher rates in drive times than middays, as there are much more listeners.
2.
Let Jagger run 5a - 10a stick a show from 10a - 3p (Ben & Skin, Salisbury & Scruggs...whatever) and keep Pete and M-Rod @ 7p.
Checkerboard programming doesn't generally work well. It's what killed KLIF, when instead of being all talk, or all sports (and using their 50K watts to kill the Ticket's puny signal) they hopscotched on the checkerboard from talk to sports to talk to sports to talk, etc...People who wanted talk ended up going to the WBAP's and KRLD's, the people who wanted sports ended up at KTCK, and KLIF became a shadow of their former self.
2a.
And how would you market that? Not like I think 'sports you can hear in your office building' is good marketing (I wonder what idiot came up with that?). Promoting that you can hear it in your office building - I guess that promotes at work listening. Only problem, KTCK's 2 really dominant dayparts are morning and afternoon drive. So they're attacking KTCK at their weak spot, while leaving the tentposts alone. So middays sag a little, odds are they make enough in AM and PM drive to make up teh difference...
And then #3.
To whoever said CBS has the money to compete. If so, they could have afforded to keep Scott and Hill. Who's ratings (according to Barry horn) were a 3.2, a 2.7 and a 2.6.
Arguably, those numbers are better than Newy and Sean's 2.7, 2.7 and 2.7.
But I bet Newey and Salisbury have contracts of some sort. By firing Scott and Hill they've just saved themselves how many thousands of dollars over the next couple of months? by having Jagger work an extra hour, N&S work and extra hour and B&S go 2-6 insted of 3-7, they just cut 2 show host salaries off the bottom line...
Does that sound like CBS wants to spend the money to compete?
