Kevin Scott Fired...

I'm listening to Dan and Richie on the Fan right now and I don't think Dan has a chance of surviving if he gets his own show.

I disagree.

Dan would be great with his own show. Especially if he chooses to do his show with Richie Witt. Tasos on the other hand... not so much. ::)

And here's where I disagree. I found Tasos very quick and refreshing when he was on with Dan. Dan, in my opinion, is talented but too much of a Russ wanna be. He needs to relax. I heard Dan for a few minutes this week and I do think he's found his niche. However, his own show? No thanks.

And if Richie Witt becomes a permanent fixture on 1053, he loses his credibility as an unbiased radio writer/journalist.

How does he lose credibility by being on a major market sports station? The previous format should have no reflection on this one(if thats what your getting at). The fact that people dont like this format is another issue.

Richie? CREDIBILITY? UNBIASED?

ROTFLMAO.

That's the funniest thing I've read in months.

#1 he's an opionion columnist, not an actual journalist. Journalists report the news, columnists give their take on the news. He's let his biases shine through for years.

And he's completely lost any semblance of objectivity when you audition for a job at one station, don't get it and end up taking a job at another.

If the observer was a real newspaper, and not the left wing rag that it is, they'd have conflict-of-interest policies that would have him not covering or writing about a field that he has an interest in.

But it's the Observer so I'm not sure real rules of journalism count...

First Right on Little1, second Who cares what a hack writer like Whitt thinks about sports? Next locker room he goes in will be the first... I have an idea, hire somebody who has a clue FAN! The station is a freaking joke. Period.

Well what he does (Bigby) may work in a market like Detroit, But "Mayonnaise or Miracle Whip" radio will not work here.... Come on, multi-topic segments, No guest, and call after call of open lines? If I wanted to hear my neighbor talk sports I would walk next door and ask him.... Don in Dallas, or Jake in Grapevine telling me that they would like to see the Cowboys trade Romo for Peyton or "Top five TV Dads List" is not good radio. Kevin and Greg were terrible but it is not like they are the only problem. Nobody wants to work Gavin and Bigby. They may have to scrap those guys and start over.

I am way out of the loop. I assume Gavin is gone, which is a good thing..

But I agree.. That generic syndicated like sports talk is horrible. Whenever I stumble upon it on overnights it makes me a little ill. It is horrible radio and appeals to such a marginal niche audience. Competing against an alternative like the Ticket it would get slaughtered.

How is this any different than Barry Horn being a weekly guest on the Michael Irvin show? Barry works for a 'real' newspaper, right wing rag that it is, and is their sports media reporter. Shouldn't the DMN have a conflict of interest policy in place that precludes him from being on Irvin's show while writing about The Ticket and The Fan?

It's really not, although in Horn's defense, it would all depend on whether he's getting paid for those weekly appearences or not. If he is, then yes, getting a check from a company you're covering blows any concept of objectivity and impartiality out of the water.

Also, Horn is a little more cut and dried 'reportery' than he is offering opinion columns. Most of his stuff I've read have been more factual (so and so did such and such in the ratings) than opinion 'so and so sucks'. When reporting facts. it's a little easier to not let a bias you have shine through.

Unless like Karl Rove you think truth has a liberal bias.... :D
