Kevin & Sluggo Cut At KLOS

That would be interesting. Would they blow up their highest rated station? Maybe that's what they're in the process of doing.
I think they have become very aware of cluster strategy and sales, as the KLOS acquisition has not added to the inter-station synergy. Again, I think that bringing in a person who has been very successful with multi-ethnic stations gives and indication of where things may be going. And the sudden cuts in KLOS airstaff members would seem to favor that impression.

Are you saying KLOS is not multi ethnic, but rather Gringo Radio? Pete Townshend wrote---
"ROCK IS DEAD THEY SAY -LONG LIVE ROCK"

Certainly more changes are coming. There is no defense of the way this situation was botched. Firing a guy at the same time a promotion started reeks of management in disarray...

I am all for bringing back Pirate Radio, but they have to bring Scott Shannon too, otherwise that isn't what it is.

Although we both know Mike was kidding, that was my first reaction as well.

Are you saying that Americans who are not of Hispanic origin or heritage are only "gringos" if they are non-Hispanic white?

Not necessarily. It is more an admission that errors were made and have to be corrected immediately.

Heard the replacement on Monday.
It's Stew.
Stew!

Stew will retain any audience left with generic radio banter pablum for 4 hours.
While simultaneously being radio banter pablum.

Ladies and gentlemen ... Stew!

Could be. Or they just copied over the requirements from the last opening at one of the other stations.

The real story here is $70K-$90K for afternoon drive in Los Angeles.

That's Sacramento money, and not even the top of that scale.
They're probably going to stick poor Pío Ferro with the job when nobody bites à la WXDJ.

Not as much ad percentages, but endorsement sales.

And that's hideous. The earnings of the talent then are largely dependent on the competency of the sales staff and their ability to find a client willing to pay extra money for an endorsement coming from someone who---based upon the compensation model---is not likely to be a major draw in and of him/her/themselves.

"Hi. I'm some f***in' guy for Longo Toyota. Y'know, when I'm looking for the cheapest used car that will get me from my apartment in Victorville down here to the KLOS studios, I always go to Longo."

If these stations make their jocks miserable enough with lousy pay, maybe they'll start doing their live reads like the Houston Icehouse DJ and the ratings/pay issues will solve themselves.

That's the way it is no matter how you get paid. If you get paid a salary, and the sales staff isn't bringing in enough to pay you, you get laid off.

EVERYTHING is based on the competency of the sales staff when your only revenue stream is :30 spots.

Yeah. But you can sell :30 spots (generally) a whole lot easier than you can sell endorsements. That's from experience.

And most GMs/Market Presidents will blow up a GSM (who will have been given the chance to blow up individual underperforming sales people) long before they start going after the talent.

I'd accept every nickel of that. If I paid triple the rent I pay now, I'd still spend only 60 grand a year.

It depends on the talent. Some talent get their own endorsements, and their manager gets a commission. I know a guy in Chicago who has three deals that he did apart from his station. That's why he has a job now. He brought he own money to the table.
