KEXX goes Classic Rock

Yep, It has finally happened. X1039 is going Classic Rock. You all have been predicting a change. There you have it. Wonder if the Morning Mayor will be hanging around?

Wondering when this would get posted as it has been on various facebook pages for a few hours already. Bad move in my opinion, but then again, who am I?

I just don't see them taking down an established Classic Rocker like KSLX on an inferior signal. They have good numbers but I would imagine their audience is fairly loyal. The only part of this that makes any sense is that Pratt would be a better fit for a classic rock format, but are you really gonna build a station around him? Just another station ignoring the mighty Mix 969, when is someone gonna take on this station.

Im sure Pratt was smart enough to get a contract with KEXX. So it makes sense that he would be behind this move, as KSLX is more of a "Classic Hits" station. Even though 100.7 brands themselves as classic rock, they still share a good amount of songs with KOOL like Beach Boys, Beatles, Van Morrison, and so on. Perhaps KEXX will play deeper 70's / 80's Classic Rock for their Alternative followers like Lou Reed, Bowie, U2, Clash, Blondie, etc.

Not to mention the name "My" doesn't sound right for any sort of rock station. Anyone think this could be a smokescreen?

This is pretty crappy. When they first announced Pratt back in August I knew he would put the final nail in their coffin. Not that they were doing great then, but they managed to lose half their 6+ audience since August. That has to say something. It wasn't a great alternative station by any stretch but it was better than nothing. I just hope someone else will give the format a shot.

I don't want to be the bearer of bad news, and I absolutely don't want to be seen as jumping on the Pratt bandwagon (where's that barbecue, again?), but "alternative" has been a dead format for quite some time, folks.

Stations with names like "The Edge" (insert filtered voice imaging here) have been losing listeners since Pratt was on The Zone (didn't they call themselves "alternative," too?) and it was only a matter of time before this format gave up the ghost.

What a bummer.

Can someone please tell me a really solid, alternative station in another market I can listen to online?

Thanks.

WFNX/Boston. I listen daily, it is EXACTLY what alternative radio should be. KNDD/Seattle is a good one too.

What is it with this stupid market nowadays???

Like we really need another classic rock station just like we really need another old school station.

Whatever!

I tend to prefer alt. rockers that mix in some punk rock like Bad Religion, Social D, Face to Face, Rancid, Pennywise, etc. from time to time so this list reflects that..

For the more adventurous taste:

92/9 FM Bend, OR (Probably the most eclectic commercial alternative rock FM radio station in the country; plays currents, plays the alt. rock staples but also plays reggae, classic rock, funk music, industrial, classic country, ska, electronic music, classic hard rock, dance, punk rock, 80s new wave, 70s punk and tons more. The closest station musically by far to the legendary former REV 105 out of Minneapolis).

94.1 KSLG Eureka, CA "K-Slug"

101.1 WRIF-HD2 Detroit "Riff-2"

97.9 WIYY-HD3 - Baltimore, MD "Indie 97.9"

For the more mainstream taste:

FM 94/9 San Diego
91X San Diego
106.7 KROQ Los Angeles
