KFNN Power Up

Nah, we don't want them to get in trouble with Uncle Charlie, we just want
KayFuNN to play by the rules and stop being an illegal power alien.

Besides, the FCC has their hands full with all those pirates in New York City.
Not to mention the "f-word" on SNL last Saturday. <wink>

They were a bit sloppy this evening--the scheduled 6:00 PM power down
did not occur until 6:08:07.

Can't Sheriff Joe do a power supression sweep as we suspect illegal activity at KFuNN? I'll send Nurse Czarina Jeff over to Central Av with plenty of hot coffee and some Dunkin Donuts...they'll be out there before sunrise!

Don't forget industrial-strength Head & Shoulders for Sheriff Joke. <grin>

So what did our KayFuNNsters do today?

At 5:54:45 AM they were already powered up to the same level on
the 'Tuke meter that they ran during the day yesterday.

Power down was another "I'll get to it after we do all these important
segments in the first part of the 6 PM hour and then into a recorded
program where I have a minute to flip the switch" and occurred at
6:09:09 PM.

are you sure they're even doing .1kW up to 23kW?

perhaps they're pulling a KAZM 780 Tom Tabback trick of doing 1,000 watts non-directional, during a transition between Daytime and Nightime operations?

did 1510 KFNN Mesa/Phoenix apply for a CP to raise nightime power after Spokane downgraded? seems they could point more to the North and Southwest

why are they licensed to Mesa when you can't hear them there at night?

Not sure. (22 kw-D, BTW.) The KayFuNNsters seem hesitant to come on
the board and reveal just what power settings they are using and when.

While there may be some interim PSRA, I doubt it because 1) the PSRA
authorization appears to be even less than the 100 w-N, and 2) the signal
strength I see after they power up (early) is the same as in subsequent
listens during the "daytime" period, including just before power down.

Geez, when that happened didn't the Feds seize Mel's Diner? <wink>
(OK it's obscure, but I'm sure someone will get it.)

Class D former daytimers that were granted minimal-powered night service
have to cover their COL only during their original daytime hours.

As far as applying to upgrade due to KGA downgrading, that can't happen untill KGA 1510 & KPIG 1510 both get their new licenses granted from the FCC. Then everyone else on or with-in a channel of 1510 will pile on applications too!

This may have changed since I departed there in the 90's but when they went to KOOL-am's directional
(the 4 tower array) although I do not believe they are using all 4 towers Just one I believe...(without doing my research)

They were authorized at 22KW Directional daytime. I do not remember what the nighttime or critical hours (if there is one) authorization is. I may have to get a hold of Dave Dickson who did the site transfer and what the authorizations are.

For now I say "Innocent until The FCC comes to the door and tells ya different."

For the record I wonder who the engineer is over there right now... <shakes head in disbelief>

KSPA in Ontario has an application in for 50kw D, 45kw CH and 6kw N. Couple that with the 25kw KCKC in Denver is shooting to the southwest at night, and it doesn't leave much for the KFuNNsters on 15~Ten. No wonder they "accidently" go to day power earlier than local sunrise!

Doc, perhaps a bit too much eye strain from the hectic class schedule at
the Media Hut? The calls should read KCKK (COL: Littleton).

A few days in Milpitas for fall break might do the trick. Or better yet, take
your TARP money and do a junket in Vegas...or Copenhagen! <grin>

As for the KayFuNNsters, tonight's power down (or whatever it is when I
can no longer hear them, so it must be the dump to 100 watts), occurred
one second earlier than last night. Hey, we're making progress! <roll eyes>

You're right...just like AMC vehicles, Nurse Czarina Jeff and I are more than capable of being screwed up. Fortunately, neither one of us shows signs of rust in our quarter panels. YIKES!!

Out of curiousity, does the "45 minutes fast" lamptimer bring KFuNN up to 22kw on Saturdays and Sundays? Or is this something that only happens during the week when they need that signal and coverage for AMD? hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Thanks to the reminder from BoiseEngineer The K-Funners do use all 4 sticks. The slip was my bad.. as I had never been to the site but did some of the internals during my tenure.

I look forward to this one... not that I want to see anything bad happen to the KFuNNers. Just the fact I bet it will be settled in a deli somewhere over a bowl of Motzoball soup.

Hey, Lucy...you got some splain' to do! Sure is interesting how KFuNN is consistently up to full power well before local sunrise this time of the year! Kinda hard to confuse 100 watts with 22,000 watts...espcially when you're at 15~Ten.

Funny, Sunday afternoon I was listening to KFNN, and along came an announcement:

"KFNN, 1510, not a watt to waste...." or something close to that. I didn't have a pencil and not sure that I remembered it correctly, but sounded like they were making fun of themselves and their watts.

Or maybe they were mocking the FCC, kind of a "nyah nyah...you gotta
find us first!" attitude since the feds seem to be understaffed in the
illegal power alien-catching and pirate-catching departments.

Subpoena those transmitter logs! <grin>

And for the more recent wattage adventures at KayFuNN 1510...Sunday's
power down was at 6:09:07 PM and this morning's power up was again
in the same ballpark as recent observations--5:54:09 AM.
