Ok, it is now officially the KPIG thread. KPIG does what most on this board ache for in radio programming, and they do it pretty well. They ride the edge, wallow in originality, break the rules, provide variety, are riddled with humor, stay away from tired formatics, are genuinely listener involved, stretch the definition of "program" daily, are heavily into the local music scene, and fit no format. It is, in the opinion of their listeners, thorough radio entertainment 24/7.
Their listeners? KPIG has historically (20 years now) done very well in the original market of license, Monterey/Salinas, usually rated 6 to 8 out of 26. Mapleton has consequently put them in SLO, Chico, and finally the Bay Area. Their listenership is soon to grow exponentially.
Mapleton just bought a 50k 1510 signal in Spokane with the intent to downgrade it's clear channel status so that the 1510 in the Bay Area can be upgraded (it will be a much stronger signal). Mapleton has also just partnered with Dial Global Digital to hit terrestrial stations throughout the US with the KPIG program as broadcast.
Oh and by the way, Atwater...measley and AM as the Oakland signal may be, it sounds great on my old Atwater Kent. And some of the depression swing is just right for the overall effect! And Lkeller, remember when the truism was "the worse the signal, the better the music" (or vice versa)?
