O&A or Stern are their only options at this point and Stern is locked into Sirius. Forget Adam Corolla or Danny Partridge.
YSP should stay local. Play all music on morning drive, something the station hasn't done in years.

what exactly do you mean by stay local. the station aint going to move somewhere else (yes im being a smartass) but seriously, what do you mean by stay local?

A few years ago, a character on Tom Joyner's show noted that it was Nat Turner's birthday, and suggested celebrating by going out and "beating up white people"...

Did they check in their brains at the door when reporting for work? It's patently offensive, and obviously the wrong thing to do was to AIR IT AGAIN! Holy smokes! This is Philadelhia 2008, not Birmingham 1968! The days of the Joey Reynolds' "Yo Bro Paging System" are over.

the pd was fired as well.. any thoughts on who they'd bring in for that? personally, i think the station needs some change in the programming side. it's just not good radio at all. talent will only get you so far.

Wasn't he a new PD? If I remember hearing right on O&A that when he was brought in he made it very clear he hated O&A and would remove them as soon as possible, which he did. Now that Chris and the PD are gone, will O&A return?

Some people just don't get it. There are intelligent and creative ways to appeal to an audience... and then there is this. Racism, tit and fart jokes, all that stuff isn't that creative, it's a relative easy way to get laughs.. if your audience is that stupid and most rock audiences are. Don't get pissed I've worked at rock stations and the audience accepts intelligent humor just as easily as they do lame dick jokes... as long as you can present it as funny. That's where talent comes in. You know why a TV show like Seinfeld lasted and a show like Cavemen doesn't? Because the wit and humor on Seinfeld is crafted and takes time to develop. The Howard Stern approach to radio died 10 years ago and these jocks who continue to do their shows following his formula are nothing more than talent-less hacks. It was cutting edge 25 years ago... 25 YEARS AGO PEOPLE. CAN'T PEOPLE COME UP WITH THEIR OWN SCHTICKS AND IDEAS? Songs like this get you sent back to Butte, Montana so you can get some practice in broadcasting. Look a "butt" joke!

Oh and the color argument? REALLY? LOL! When people bring up color, it's because they have no other argument and they want everyone reading this board to think they're a moron. Seriously, it's written in the websites bylaws.

insane nothing wrong with that song i thought it was funny

Song was OK. No point to it except that blacks steal and are lazy. How fresh. And with a Blondie song that almost 30 years old.

The mad, forced laughter is what makes Kidd Chris a stereotypical stunted adolescent show of the 90s that has helped make CBS radio a laughing stock. Good talent doesn't need to tell the audience when something is funny. Dope. I'm glad they fired him just for being awful.

Klein said a press release was sent out 6 WEEKS ago by some special interest group calling out CBS Radio, WYSP, the Show, and the song SPECIFICALLY, asking for calls to the station to tell them not to play the song and calls to advertisers. On Monday, the press release started making E-MAIL rounds. Yet WYSP claims they never received it.

From Michael Klein in today's Inquirer:
http://www.philly.com/inquirer/magazine/20080517_WYSP_fires_Kidd_Chris_over_racist_song_parody.html

An e-mail to radio journalists and executives on Monday from a group called Racial Dignity in Media pointed out the parody and urged recipients to complain to station management. A CBS spokeswoman said the station didn't know about this e-mail, and a representative of the group did not reply to an e-mail for comment. A Federal Communications Commission spokeswoman said the FCC doesn't comment on complaints without a formal request, which can take weeks to process...

FYI... A Google search for this "Racial Dignity in Media" group turns up ZERO results.

This one's for eyg:

By stay local, it means having a LOCAL show in morning drive, rather than O and A. And Fred Savage nails it when he refers to stupidity as a way to get easy laughs. I've even heard some of the same dreck on WPEN's old morning show pre-ESPN. Good,attention-getting radio is an art; Holland Cooke describes a Halloween stunt pulled off by WPRO Providence in 1974:http://www.radio-info.com/smf/index.php/topic,99795.0.html .
Good on-air stuff takes work, and not going for the cheap/easy like today.

Wow!

I bet Preston & Steve are enjoying this day...

I wouldn't count on that. There is comfort in having the worst radio show in decades as your competition. That anemic Howard Stern imitator Kidd Chris was going nowhere. It takes more than anger to have an entertaining radio show. You have to have talent too, and that's where Kidd Chris comes up really short. There are only so many adolescent, homophobic, racist, nazi, sub 90 I.Q., insecure about their own masculinity, boys who, like lemmings over a cliff, blindly follow a cruel, talentless hack who calls himself "Kidd". Chris had pretty much maxed out that audience and had gone about as far as he could go in the ratings. Now Preston & Steve have to worry whether YSP might find somebody who isn't totally unlistenable to 99% of the audience, or worse yet from their point of view, somebody good, though I think there is little chance of that.

I'm wondering besides O&A what local host can take over with a local show immediately ? None come to mind for me.

If O&A are on within the next few weeks, they are in. If it's just music with a liner card reader, it's format change time.

CBS Radio flipped K-Rock from talk to music right around Memorial Day last year. Wouldn't be shocked if they did another flip in a week with WYSP.

(I still like the conspiracy idea theory that WYSP was looking for a way to get rid of Chris without having to pay him)

Barsky is currently being paid to do nothing.

And since with the Eagles thing and WYSP apparently into simulcasting, theres rumor that Cataldi's show will be simulcast, easy fill, all local, no extra $$$.

There is a thread in the Sacramento board about Rob, Arnie and Dawn, from 98 Rock, moving to a Top 10 market. YSP might be a good fit, though this could be just a rumor.

That's hardly an offensive joke if one possesses a modicum of knowledge of who Nat Turner was. It could barely be stretched into interpretation as racism against whites--plus, there was no chorus.
