KJJR 880 DX Test Jan. 8th

KJJR test heard. Morse code and sweep tones under WCBS. Poor but there. This makes it Montana number 4 for me.

To add to the mix, CKLQ is now starting to slide in underneath KRVN and KJJR. Z/Cheyenne, WY at 12:28 MST, 27 minutes into the test

Woke up here in PA to 880 off the wee Radio Shack travel portable at 2:01 and heard the 800 cycle code ID tight from the gitgo! See, the quiet room for DX is down a level from the computer / music room.
So I ran upstairs and turned on the SDR from Stevensville MT.
Never been skilled at //ing stations vis a vis SW to AM, so I had to wait a few cycles of KJJR's test to try for them again. One sequence was a 1000 hz tone at 2:20, which I also caught off the little RxShx radio.

I'll be up for a while, getting my exercise on the stairs. The loud one on 880 in this area is WCBS.

Missed the test after all that. But I obviously didn't need them.
On the other hand, 10PM to 1AM PT 1/14-15 will be spent on 1380 anxiously hoping KRKO's loud and bombastic oldies music will fade out for a brief moment and I can get a sweep tone out of KQKD Redfield SD.

Woke up bright and early at the crack of 11:30 this morning. So, bright-tailed and bushy-eyed and armed now with a 64-ounce vat of 1000% Colombian coffee, some additional notes, if I may.

.... I didn't hear any sweep tones at all off the R-S Travel Portable. They were somewhat piercing and very vivid off the Montana SDR, but weren't there at all on the little battery radio.
.... Clearest 'genuine' presence of all were those 800 cycle code IDs. I'd've thought that the sweep tones would be my best chance off the radio -- they were best for WNJO's TEST -- but not this time.
.... :43 into the pursuit, I heard a loud, thunderous song on the SDR and tried to // it downstairs to no avail. Sounded like 1967 heavy metal. Was that KJJR?
.... Who ran that January 8th 1944 newscast ? Was that KRVN ? That was off the SDR only, too.
.... Around 3:59 (the last moments here), there was some bombastic tune played. Perhaps it was the end of the TEST? It certainly wasn't from the East Coast WCBS. (WCBS made things a bit easier than normal, since they were all talk and news with a lot of spaces).
.... Off the SDR, there was a notable echo / delay during the 3AM newscast. Who were they?
.... The start of the TEST was much better here ... more readable than the end was. But it sounded to me as though KJJR either stopped things early or cx dteriorated the last half hour. I was only listening at that point to the little portable.
.... It'd be swell if there were a program log of the event. Such might be a help to many.

One can only nod in approval with the sentiments of TVNut and the rest. Gracieux, TEST organizers! I think I may have passed this exam, hi. I did study for it with crib notes from the Morse Code chart.

In DFW, I heard the sweep tones from KJJR at 1:11 - 1:20am CST (posted above). KRVN was running old-time radio program, including piece about Audie Murphy, so that could have been your 1944 newscast. When nulling KRVN, I heard weak mix of WCBS, KLRG (Little Rock) playing rock music matching their web stream, and Spanish which is usually KJOZ).

In Houston, KRVN was dominant (and on ~same bearing as KJJR). I heard bits of the test (I think) underneath but very weakly. Right at 1:00am CST, someone played All I Want for Christmas is You. About 1:05 I heard "whoop whoop" tones under KRVN. At 1:25 I heard the whoop tones and a snippet of Morse code. I've taped a fair bit of the first half hour so will go back and look for other signs of KJJR.

KRVN was running a show, "American Stories" that included a segment on the history of Audie Murphy, including some old radio clips. Semi local KJOZ was there, along w/WCBS, when I nulled KRVN.
