KJLH is so unfocused right now.

Its funny how some people notice KJLH now since they are the lone Urban formatted station in town. KKBT, KUTE and KACE were sold off to other compaines and ditched their low rated formats. (Expect for KUTE in the 80's ).Pittsburg doesnt even have a Urban station anymore. Not even a Rythnmic station either. Major companies espically on the westcoast dont really care for Urban formats. Bonneville is one of them. Even if the Beat was Mainstream Urban during the time of the sale they would still flip it. KKFR in Pheniox got dumped when Bonneville bought the station. And it moved to a low power signal and new owner. If a major company does a urban formatted station its just for profit. Once the ratings tank and sales are down and the format is gone.

I heard Gernade on Tuesday night leaving work so I was referring to you listening on Tuesday not Wednesday. They like to throw in surprises big deal they can do whatever they want.
I had it on KJLH Tuesday night and loaded my Power 106 app. They're Radio Free. So they can play what they want when they want.

The Beat had a reputation for being ghetto since their days on 92.3 in the mid to late 90's

The connotation of "ghetto" is a negative misnomer, 9 out of 10 times. Just because a station spins certain songs doesn't make it "ghetto". If a station was all "trap music" rap all the time like KXHT/Memphis, WHTA/Atlanta, or WJMI/Jackson, MS, I could see that because those stations are straight "ghetto". V-103 in Atlanta spins certain songs but also spins soul and R&B as well; however, the connotation of "ghetto" because of the former is a misnomer. The old "Beat" @ 92.3 and 100.3 wasn't "ghetto" because the actually spin a variety of music from R&B, hip-hop, and rap genres. Actually, the urban contemporary version of Power 106 was "ghetto".

Power 106 will always be ghetto because they were very choosey over R&B songs during they're tenure as an Urban Contemporary.

Well, considering its track history as a reactionary programmed station then it would make sense. They spun R&B/Hip-Hop panel songs as a reaction to the Beat in 1990s. Their drastic abandonment of that song composition to chase after KIIS in 2006 reaffirms this as a fact. It funny that the Arbitron still records them as an "urban". :D

Arbitron is still referring them as an Urban Contemporary?

Go to the front page of this site and look up the LA #s under the the "Ratings" section. It still has "Urban" as the listings for KPWR.

@ Kilamanjero just because KPWR plays hip hop doesn't mean that their "urban". They sounded more in 1998-2002 when billboard listed them as an "R&B Station".

Trust me, I already know this quite well...I was just pointing out how their sketch history as a station has caused even confusion with the Arbitron listings.

This subject about what this site lists as the format for a station on the ratings page has been visited in the past. By me and others.

Someone responded to my query, maybe a year ago or more(!) about KSWD continuing to be listed as "Adult Alternative" [maybe it was David Gleason (Eduardo)]. He said it's this site not Arbitron that lists the format. For more proof, note that KSWD is still listed as Adult Alternative. (In case you don't know, for almost two years now, KSWD has not been AAA by any stretch) [I e-mailed the mods about it at the time way back when and they temporarily corrected it]

Maybe it's Adult Alternative with just a "splash" of Classic Rock thrown in?

Well you can never trust the wiki page for 100.3. Anybody puts whatever they want. It's listed MOR. I guess Middle Of The Road.

@wdb2003 Guess what KJLH was playing? You That I Love You By Donell Jones but it was a smooth jazz version. I remember them playing it in 2002. But KKBT played the vocal version of the song. KJLH does same thing with Ruff Endz Someone To Love You & Luther Vandross Can I Take You Out Tonight. Those are some good hits but why does KJLH play a Kenny G version of R&B songs. LOL. :D I took out my earphones to hear it and I still that song after 9 years.
