KJR-FM flips to...

You summed it up pretty well, but to answer the last question; the answer can be found in one word.. expense. If KJR took a temporary 1-2% dip in share by adjusting with the factory format, yet saved 20% in attributable expense, it's still a win. The assumption being that 1-2% dip comes back in a few months because they would be the only FM oldies/classic hit hybrid in the market (that counts because no, KMCQ isn't in the game). They retain a great deal of the classic hits audience yet shore-up females. Apart from the unpleasant aspect of good people potentially losing their employment; from a strictly strategic point of view it makes perfect sense. Now we wait and see what actually happens.

Let's just say that after Christmas KJR FM does flip formats, what format would they flip to? Rock, Country and Oldies are pretty much covered(even though KJR FM is already classic hits); if KJR FM did by some weird coincidence or whatever flip formats after the holidays, I would vote one of two things:

One, to Rock to take over Funky Monkey's format(and both are Clear Channel stations so I could see it)

Two, to a simulcast of KJR 950's format to try and do something that 710 doesn't have, an FM sports station

Three, a total and absolute long shot but why not: to a format reminicsent of KJR 950's post top 40 format, part oldies, part adult contemporary; heck Pat O'Day could come back, or maybe not.

KJR FM flips to "Oldies" after this Christmas business is over. Funny thing though, as they're filling the niche left by KBSG... they let the amazing Program Director J Kelly go? What? Wasn't he the one that brought KBSG to top status? Hmmmmm...

Not hard to figure out, Randy.

Unlike KMAS, KJR is owned by a big radio corporation. They have a "corporate" format running on stations nationwide.

With a national format in place no need to have a local PD to reinvent the wheel - no matter how successful he was in the past.

Looks like to me there will be no change.Very disappointing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Christmas 95.7, Seattle's Holiday Music Station.

Flips? The proper term is Change. But they really haven't changed much. Mostly they did the Christmas thing like Warm does every year for the Christmas season, and now they have gone back to the Oldies format.

Can anybody tell me whats up with this KCMQ thing? I keep reading that it's going off the air, etc. but I always have it on. Anyway to communicate with these guys, I would love to get a playlist. TF Guy

I heard their mandatory license transfer announcement today. KMCQ is owned by xxx which is sub-group of xxx .... majority ownership of xxxx held by xxxx .... being transferred to xxxx which is a division of XXX, LLC ... which is a trust ... which is part of a family trust ... whose majority owner is Bob. Holy CRAP ... they literally have about 8 layers of lawyer crap involved with the ownership of this thing....on BOTH sides of the transfer.

It's just the creditors attempting to recover some of their money. Ultimately, somebody will end up with the licensees and the lenders will end up wishing they had never listened to the speculators.
