KLTO simalcasting the beat

Gibby said:
Here are my guesses in order of likelihood:

1. KLTO remains simulcasting KBBT.

2. KLTO becomes "Recuerdo" & KCOR returns as "Amor"

3. KLTO becomes Rock.

4. KLTO is sold to the highest bidder.

I vote for #1.

1 out of 4 ain't bad. I have a friend at the Texas Observer working on a story about the recent incidents involving K-Paz De La Sierra singer Sergio Gomez and others. Would any of your Texas Pd's be interested in offering a quote?

Okay, I'm inviting everyone to laugh at me in advance, but here's a thought. Although HIGHLY unlikely, perhaps Univision who has always cared more about spanish than English, will move the beat to 97.7 and use 98.5 for some other hidden weapon of mass radio destruction. I don't know the details, but I heard that something similar happened in Houston with 104.9 the party being moved to a 93.3 and being replaced with amor. Any thoughts?

Monkey see monkey do......

i wonder how Cindy Hill is feeling right about now in Houston!

Seems like Univision has a plan...

It doesn't make sense to move any station, regardless of language, that is continuously #1 in the ratings. That would be the dumbest move. Spanish radio isn't doing so great in SA right now.

Yeah, moving it would not be the brightest move when you are number one, especially when you have competition.

I think this is only the beginning of 97.7. I still throw my 2 cents that they'll either do Rythmic AC or Classic Country.

Something tells me that I'm wrong though and we might see "Que Buena" arrive after New Years

I agree. I seriously doubt Univision will move The Beat to a rim shot station like 97.7. Not so much because of The Beat ratings but more so with the amount of money the station brings in.

My guess is 97.7 goes Top 40 English & Spanish. Mix has higher ratings than KTFM and I'm sure Mix brings in more $$$. ??? Time will tell what Univision has planned for 97.7.

I agree I think that would be stupid if they move the beat over to 97.7. I guess that explains why they dont simalcast Lakalle977 on 97.7 because it was taking out from The beat. I hope they will keep Simalcasting the beat, that will give a hiphop station to Victoria.

I won't laugh at you silentmajority as we were having a good discussion about this very topic on the Houston board. Moving Party from 104.9 to 93.3 is suicidal for the station. Moving The Beat to 97.7 would have the same effect. The difference is KBBT is number 1 in S.A. and KPTY was and still is an also ran in Houston. I love how Univision spins their decisions too. Party in Houston is now on a "stronger signal as our Christmas present to our listeners", or so Party DJ's will tell you. While it is true that Party is now on a 100kw rig as opposed to the 2700w stick they were on in downtown Houston, the station now originates from Port Arthur. Port Arthur? How is that beneficial to any listener west of Downtown? Thousands of listeners in the west and southwest sections of the city have now been abandoned as 93.3 is spotty at best west of the Loop. I don't buy it. While I suspect that KLTO will continue to simulcast KBBT for the short term, considering David E. just acknowledged that above, I wouldn't bet the farm on it lasting past a year or so. Keep a watch on the Houston boards, as well. I figure you'll see us talking about the newest Spanish language station at 93.3 before too long.

On a side note someone in Victoria in a car next to me was listening to KLTO so I guess they are already finding them down there.

Re: KLTO simulcasting the beat

Univision may be on to something using rim shots to extend a popular brand.
Remember when KTSA used to rock all of South Texas from Victoria and Corpus to the Valley and Laredo?
That could happen on FM using a network of repeaters.
God knows they've got the facilities.

That's great to hear. However, I still miss La Kalle. This bullsh*t that it's available on 98.5 HD-2 is just that. La Kalle is rarely on. In fact, it hasn't been on for the last 3 days. I'm still hoping CC will flip 92.5 The Outlaw to the Mega format and *NOT* the Houston version either.

I have giving up on HDRadio, I cant even pick up Austin HD without having my outdoor antenna hookedup 30 miles away. I can acually DX San san antonio radio 60 miles using a dipole antenna. I cant even pick up maybe 2 Austin HDsignals with the dipole 30 miles from Austin. I think that was a bad move to for La Kalle to be in "HD only" I use to be a HD supporter untill I had enough with the signal BS knocking out all the time.
