KMET is back !!??????

I agree with your take, ChannelFlipper. Although the possibility of KLOS' "reunion" is happening on one of the biggest holidays of the year, where people will be attending parades, traveling out of town, going to picnics and barbeques, and watching fireworks. When I've been at such public outings in recent years, I have noticed the "boom-boxes" or whatever device is now used to amplify music, play CDs or MP3s, etc., not radio stations. Therefore, I would imagine KLOS will not get a great audience. Am I wrong about radio listening on a holiday?

At my dad's house, he has always played the Firecracker Countdown on KRTH. It has been a tradition for many years!

KLOS is having a Legends of LA Rock Radio weekend. Right now Frazier Smith is on for Mark & Brian. Midday, it’s KLOS/KMET legend Cynthia Fox, who’ll be visited by Paraquot Kelley for an updated Fish Report, then it’s Joe Benson, Jim Ladd, Suzanne Ansilio, Bob Coburn, 25 year KLOS vet Rita Wilde, Gary Moore, Chris Carter, FM Rock Radio pioneer Raechel Donahue & Garth Kemp.

Raechel Donahue was just on by phone with Jim Ladd and it was very depressing. She sounded like she was drunk or stoned. She was incoherent and finally Ladd had to cut her off. It was one of the saddest things I've heard. I was really looking forward to hearing her. I hope she was drunk and not suffering from something worse.

That is very unfortunate to hear. I didn't hear her but was looking forward to possibly hearing her appearance this weekend.

Besides being one of the absolute pioneers of the free form rock format, she also hosted morning drive at KMPC-FM/KEDG-FM. She was very funny, articulate, quick-witted personality who made it a fun listen to her personality without it getting in the way of the music-intensive format. At the time, she was one of only a few female solo hosts to have a shot at morning drive in LA. (Shana at KLOS in the mid eighties is another example that comes to mind).

I hope as well she was just drunk and not something worse. Shana has also fallen on hard times over the last few years. I hope she is doing better as well.

“Finally a KMET Friday” will begin on 100.3 The Sound much like their weekday routine began for more than a decade, with top-rated morning DJ Jeff Gonzer and newsman Ace Young reuniting on the radio at 8 a.m. Joining them as the day unfolds will be DJs Paraquat Kelley, Jack Snyder, David Perry, Rick Scarry, LA’s first female program director, Sam Bellamy, van driver Raul and fast-talking sales manager Bob Griffith. The day will conclude with legendary KMET oddball Dr. Demento presenting his greatest hits at 7 p.m. Other youth icons of the ‘70s and ‘80s are expected to visit the studios to reminisce.

Hey, is everyone going to listen tomorrow? I am definitely listening the entire day and recording it in my studio too!!

I just hope that they don't play the usual bland classic rock music that The Sound plays......

Yes. and Yes.

Yes, I will be listening, and yes, it will be the same Cars and U2 songs you know and love.
and Pink Floyd and Rolling Stones and the Who and Talking Heads and Police and Petty and Mellencamp and Steve Miller and Yes and the Eagles and Boston (YES Boston!) and Bruce and Van Halen (YES Van Halen) and Bob Seger and Jethro Tull and .... IOW ALL The Usual Suspects ::)

ALL the above acts (and more) have been aired today at least once, most more than once. Man, whatever happened to this station that they are a slightly different version of KLOS but still a partial clone. I guess we'll see in a week or two how they did in June.

[I guess I will be listening too, even though as I have stated I can't relate to the old KMET circa 1976-1982.]

They have definitely started to (classic) rock harder with the seemingly carefully chosen additions of certain Led Zep, Jethro Tull, Boston and Van Halen tracks. Still haven't made it all the way to heavy metal land of AC/DC, Aerosmith, Motley Crue, etc., but it is only the absence of those artists and the inclusion of Joe Jackson and Elvis Costello that separates them from being a full KLOS clone.

That's what I'm afraid of! Oh well, I will definitely enjoy the jocks!!

Super, I think their ratings for June will be the same as May.........

It has started!! I agree, so far so good. Just heard the surf report!

I got to miss a few hours this morning (damn work, don't they know I have important things going on?) but otherwise am on for all day.

Whooya indeed!!

I am recording it direct to digital all day so let me know which hours you need. I'll send you a disc!

Thanks!!! I'll let you know.

Hey, pleasant surprise number 1: Not playing the usual Sound playlist, but a harder KMET song selection. Already in the first hour we have heard Molly Hatchet, AC/DC, Rainbow (with Ronnie James Dio on lead vocal) and "Empty Spaces/Young Lust" by Pink Floyd.

It helps with the whole "Theater of the Mind" thing if the music is more like it really was. Thumbs up!

I know, the music is great! I really hope that The Sound continues with this playlist.

I'm mostly looking forward to hearing Dr.D. Geez, how long has it been since Los Angeles was able to hear him? I want to say early early KLSX or even The Edge was the last time his syndicated show ran here. The biggest tragedy is they are only giving him an hour.
