KMET is back !!??????

Robnoxious said:
The funniest thing about all of this is even though The Sound is KMET for a day, they still easily showed how KLOS has been and always will be considered "tools" with their corporate decision to gag Ladd, Fox, Coburn and Westwood.

Free the KMET 4 indeed!

I am with you brother! It is really stupid that KLOS is acting like a bunch of dicks about all this. Gonzer said this morning, "...that the KLOS jocks can plug their current radio shows all they want, I just want them to be apart of the happening, man!!"

It's a very good gesture on Bonneville's part to honor a highly respected L.A. radio station from the past.

Unfortunately, they could bring KMET back and it would probably only do a bit better than KSWD does now.

Remember, KMET was under a 2.0 share when it went away in 1987.

I am hoping that they bring back the KMET music and personality to KSWD! Maybe this show is a precursor to what's coming.....

A 2.0 share for KSWD would be a nice improvement for them!!!!!!

Maybe that's the surprise at 8pm... ;D

That's what I was thinking - I think it must be something big because Paraquat was heavily advertised but is strangely absent today, without any real explanation. I don't think they would keep bringing up the "KMET 4" unless they had a big payoff.

We'll see.

Just as I posted above, for the 2nd time that I've heard them mention several Bruce Springsteen references in reference to the surprise.

Could it be the big surprise is a Jim Ladd "Innerview" program where he interviews Bruce? Or an "Off the Record With (the Burner) Mary Turner" interview with Bruce?

That way they could be on the air but not in person...

Stay tuned...

I heard the same thing. If it's a Springsteen interview, I hope he's more coherent than he was on the clip they played earlier of him being interviewed.

I think it's an "Off the Record...." with Springsteen.

The only criticism I have is that the first decade of KMET seems to be forgotten except for a couple of clips of BMR. It seems to be a remembrance of the MET of the Sam Bellamy era. The early years 1968-75 are almost completely forgotten.

You must remember that in those early years of KMET, they were getting clobbered in the ratings by stations like, KHJ, KRLA, KJOI, KLOS, and several others.

Yes, true......but in KMET's hayday, the early 80's, their ratings were between a 3.5 and 4.0.

That maybe but it was probably some of the most creative times of the station. Who wouldn't want to hear some of their comments about Vietnam or Watergate? I wouldn't mind if they played a Phil Ochs song.

I'm sure KMET was interesting in those days, but I wasn't listening until 1980.

I started listening to FM Rock in 1970 on WNEW FM. The early years were the best. I first heard KMET in 1974 when they were still a hippie station. B. Mitchell Reed was very cool to listen to.

It was about a 1.7 when it flipped - and that was in a market where there were a lot more rock shares.

It probably gets a 1.2-1.5 today.

Honestly, if you brought KMET back today, it would sound like KLOS does.

So good to be listening to the Good Dr. LIVE!!!

I'm just closing my eyes and pretending it's Sunday and not Friday evening.

I have a few of his CDs and every once in awhile I put 'em on on Sunday night. My wife thinks I'm nuts when I do this.

She doesn't and can't understand.

Secret revealed; wrapping up Finally a KMET Friday the bootleg live broadcast of Springsteen from the Roxy in '78

Congratulations to Gonzer, and everyone who put in the work necessary to put this together. This obviously took a lot of effort. And huge thumbs up to the Sound, for coming up with a great idea and executing it well. With the exception of the missing personalities, it was very well done. I had a great day listening.

Clever ending too - I had wondered for weeks why they would end the day at 8:00 pm when they had so much material to work with. Now we know.

I believe this will bring the Sound a tremendous amount of goodwill. People don't forget KMET and they won't forget that the Sound was the station that brought it back if they spent any time listening to it at all today.

Thanks all. I really appreciated it.

Plus due to copyright reasons it is NOT streaming on The Sound's streaming audio player or on the UStream studio webcam video/audio link that was used for today. So this concert's over-the-air ONLY - just like it was in 1978! (This time on 100.3 FM L.A.; back then it was on 94.7 FM L.A.)

Put Dr. D on the payroll KSWD.

That one hour was far too short.

I know man....they should totally hire him for Sunday nights!!!!
