It is too bad they are only letting in a select few personalities and ignoring other obvious invitees. I understand why the folks at KLOS can't attend, but everyone else should be invited and they should be looking up folks that may not be aware. C'mon Sound, step up to the plate and do the right thing!
 
I'll Record On July 10th 2009 But Need To Know What Time One Station That I Missed Pirate Radio 100.3 "Welcome To The Jungle" I Remember When I was A Kid Listening to That Station Besides KIIS And KPWR
 
Is there a way to record directly to CD or MP3 without using tape as an intermediary? I am hoping someone will do this as I will have to be at work for most of the day and definitely want to hear the whole thing. Really looking forward to it, especially the one hour of live Dr D. in the evening.

I listen to The Sound at work (OMG! there are at least one of us out there) and I heard a teaser for KMET the other day. They played the "little bit of heaven 94.7" jingle. They said the rundown but I missed some parts because of noise. The morning shift would involve 2 original morning KMET DJs (didn't hear the names but they voiced the commercial), then would come Paraquat Kelly, ??? for afternoon drive and ending with Dr. Demento.

Jesus, I grew up in Berkeley. I've been hearing this sort of crap from idiots all my life. "Come the revolution, we'll kill all the realtors". Etc etc etc.

A business that doesn't make money has no employees and cannot continue to make a product, regardless of whether the product is considered "cool" by some people.

Nobody is denying that reality. But again, that wasn't what was being discussed. It was which station had more credibility, more influence.

“Finally a KMET Friday” will begin on 100.3 The Sound much like their weekday routine began for more than a decade, with top-rated morning DJ Jeff Gonzer and newsman Ace Young reuniting on the radio at 8 a.m. Joining them as the day unfolds will be DJs Paraquat Kelley, Jack Snyder, David Perry, Rick Scarry, LA’s first female program director, Sam Bellamy, van driver Raul and fast-talking sales manager Bob Griffith. The day will conclude with legendary KMET oddball Dr. Demento presenting his greatest hits at 7 p.m. Other youth icons of the ‘70s and ‘80s are expected to visit the studios to reminisce.

I am recording the entire day in my studio. No tape will be used......direct to hard drive FTW!!
 
So who will be doing the top of the hour news? Will it be Ace Young or Paraquat Kelley? Both did it for a long stretch of time during the KMET run. I remember Paraquat's news better since he came later. My favorite part was the complete irreverance shown for news protocol every morning by doing the surf report before the weather report. Way to have your priorities set!

I was hoping perhaps some folks here would come up with some names that should be invited, keeping in mind that some of the classic personalities that are at KLOS can't participate for obvious reasons.

It's been a lot of years and I can't remember a lot of the personalities but I'll start off with a few, some of which are more prominent than others:

Shadoe Stevens
Raechel Donahue
"The Burner" Mary Turner
Billy Juggs ("Juggs Here") - Haven't heard of him in years - he'd be an interesting "where is he now"?
Mike Harrison (Host of "Harrison's Mike" - clever eh? and now publisher of Talkers magazine

Those that are at KLOS and can't participate include:

Jim Ladd
Cynthia Fox (She's the "Fox that Rocks")
Bob Coburn (He is still there, yes? I have to say I don't listen to KLOS much anymore)


And mention should be made of the (unfortunately several) who have passed on, including

Tom Donahue
China Smith
B. Mitchel Reed
Deirdre O'Donaghue (spelling - I can never get her last name spelled right) She started "Breakfast with the Beatles" in late 1984 on KMET which means the show is about to celebrate its 25th anniversary this year. Ouch, now I feel really old, I quit.
 
You left out Denise Westwood who works for KLOS and obviously won't be there on the 10th.

If this is true, it is shameful. Shame on KLOS for taking an idea that is not their own from a competitor and trying to beat them to the punch with it. I mean, your promotions and marketing departments are so weak they have to steal ideas from a competitior with half your audience? Weak. KLOS is in a dominant heritage position and should never acknowledge even the existence of KSWD. Bad move all the way around.

However, blame should also go to KSWD for not making this event as inclusive as possible from the beginning. As I mentioned earlier, by shutting out certain individuals who definitely deserve to be there, they opened up the door to allow KLOS the opportunity to do this.

This is beginning to look like a terribly flawed execution of a wonderfully great idea. Bad karma all around.
 
I agree with your take, ChannelFlipper. Although the possibility of KLOS' "reunion" is happening on one of the biggest holidays of the year, where people will be attending parades, traveling out of town, going to picnics and barbeques, and watching fireworks. When I've been at such public outings in recent years, I have noticed the "boom-boxes" or whatever device is now used to amplify music, play CDs or MP3s, etc., not radio stations. Therefore, I would imagine KLOS will not get a great audience. Am I wrong about radio listening on a holiday?
