Kent said:I can tell you that Garcia will have the rights to the "Club," "Planeta," "Radio Caliente," and "Puro Norteno" names. That's clearly spelled out in the LMA. So, I would think there are probably more changes afoot.
Gibby said:Interesting. "Club" was the original name he used for KKLB 92.5 prior to selling the station to BMP. The format he used then for "Club" KKLB 92.5 was Tejano. I haven't read anywhere about him re-purchasing KKLB from BMP just the aforementioned frecuencies. Maybe i missed something, is KKLB part of his recent purchase from BMP. If so, are these the last days for Digital (KKLB 92.5) in Austin?
Currently, KTXZ 1560 [Planeta] is now "rock en español," 1440 am [Radio Caliente] is now regional mexican, 1490 is now norteño (regional mexican)[Puro Norteño].
Kent said:I could see him doing the "Club" tejano format on an AM if he hasn't already brought it back.
You're right. It just struck me as interesting that he has the rights to 4 brand names when he's only got 3 frecuencies. Actually, it isn't all that unusual when you think about it.
KFON 1490 is actually just "Norteno 1490," which is a corporate BMP format modeled after KSAH 720 "Norteno 720" in San Antonio. They're also airing "Norteno 1490" in Laredo. KTXZ 1560 was running "Viejitas Favoritas" as "La Lupe" while KELG 1440 was running Spanish religion and news as "La Luz" under BMP. Have 1440 and 1560 also changed since Garcia took over?

KTXZ (formerly "La Lupe" ) has changed to "Planeta". The format is "rock en español." KELG (formerly "La Luz") is now "Radio Caliente." So, yes both 1440 & 1560 have changed since Garcia took over.
Kent said:Thanks for the update! So, it looks like Garcia has ditched the viejitas format of 1560 and brought back "La Planeta." That may be the only rock en espanol station in the contental US. If it's not, you can probably count the other stations doing that format on one hand! Are you able to get KOKE 1600? If you can, what's the new format called? I'm guessing Garcia probably brought back another one of his old formats.
By the way, if you want some Austin radio nostalgia, the old pages for KKLB 92.5, KELG 1440, KFON 1490 and KTXZ 1560 are still up. Of course, they weren't much when the stations existed, but they're still there.
