KSCO and KOMY Maintenance, New Personalities

Boss,

I'm simply using the link you provided today in reply #14 @11:17 a.m.

Both of their feeds play on RealPlayer on my computer.

When they tell you to go to komyradio.com, you get their 'KFRC' feed. Interesting!

BossRadioDJ,

I got your name wrong, but the answer was correct.

My thoughts on KOMY being voice tracked were confirmed. John Mack Flanagan admitted as much on his latest post.

Oh well, this is 21st century radio. Good to hear you again, John. Any possibilities of a live shift once in a while?

Hi, Mitch...
I can tell you that when the opportunities beckon, John Mack and I will do 'live' shows.

I must agree with John Mack on his latest post; this is quite an undertaking for an AM
station like KOMY, and I for one am VERY happy to be part of this station.

I am also happy to be working alongside a gentleman like JMF that I heard while growing
up in my native Vallejo (home of artists like Johnny Otis, Sly & the Family Stone, Norma
Tanega, and Con Funk Shun)...give us time to get the bugs out. KOMY will be a blast!

Best,
--Jay

No problem either way. I hadn't realized that the photo of the radio was linked! I think that several other people had bookmarked my server feed, which was the original KOMY stream but is now "stunting" as The Big 610.

The other links on www.KOMYradio.com should resolve correctly to the "real" KOMY stream. Sorry for the confusion!

DJ

As of now, the "radio" logo on the website is no longer linked.

"...via the internet" results in the KOMY feed.

No more "KFRC," I guess!

KOMY sounds great sitting in Lexington, Kentucky right now listening to KOMY I can't wait to listen to JMF, I'm so Excited its like a little kid going to a candy Store.

Go Big John!! You are one of the best!!! FYI Joe Rosa at KYAA 1200 LMA'ed sim ply because he got tired of pumping $$ into it with little return. He is a friend and he did get 35k per mo, but currently that deal is wavering as the $$ are way past due!! Stay tuned this may flip soon I know several Oldes operators that are meeting at the NAB w/ Joe to try and put something together!!

AMEN!! To everyone who is welcoming John back!!! John don't worry man you are the BEST!!!!!!!! The listners will embrase your show as well as the station ,Who knows they might even move it to KSCO then it would have a real huge signal. About 2 yrs ago our Eng firm did a proposal on 1340 for new tower/Xmtr work, but they never did it. It is in sad shape hopefully now they will upgrade

Repairs to the antenna system are now in progress. It will take a while, but there has already been progress, especially with the KOMY signal. Give it a few more months, and we should have most of the big technical problems ironed out.

Hello Everyone,

I listen to KOMY online in Oklahoma. Have to say I liked it better pre-ABC oldies. It sounds a little "loose" between sweeper and jingles. The music is great, but syndicated delivery formats are tough to match up with the jingles and sweepers.
What do you guys think of the True Oldies Channel. I think the music mix is great, but Shannon sounds like he's about to gag.

Cheers and Good Luck KOMY from Oklahoma!

Actually, as posted on the other KOMY post "Come On Along," as pointed out by San Jose Mercury News' Brad Kava - who interviewed KOMY's Pres/GM, Ron Stevens - KOMY is now running the Jones Satellite Network for oldies, not ABC Radio:

http://blogs.mercurynews.com/aei/2007/03/komy-1340_oldies_still_not_on_the_air.html

I agree: KOMY did sound somewhat better on the music selection prior to the satellite feed, even though the computer needed tightening between songs and voice-tracks.

DJJ,

You are right. I did read on here it was Jones, not ABC. My error. I've been listening for well over an hour now and the station sounds quite good. I must have heard an isolated "loose" spot earlier. The station sounds pretty darn sharp. Our oldies station here in Tulsa pretty much abandoned the 50s/60s and now lean more toward 70s.

Nice job, KOMY.... I'm a fan!!

Meanwhile, my server, which had been originating KOMY's audio for the first few weeks, is running Oldies based on KFRC's surveys and playlists from the late 1960s, along with some great Big 610 jingles sprinkled in for seasoning.

"The Big 610" audio feed is at mms://sc3.spacialnet.com:9784

You may have to copy and paste the link into Windows Media Player, Winamp or Real Player to get it to work. I'll be adding some classic KFRC clips and other surprises to the mix over the next few weeks.

I stumbled onto this when I hit the 'listen live' button for KOMY. At first, I wondered what I was listening to. But I stayed... and I must say, I'm impressed. If it takes a radio geek to do this on a server, so be it: THIS IS OLDIES RADIO. Not the crap that has been thrust upon us by consultants, who seem to think that only ten songs from the sixties should ever see the light of day again. I grew up on East Coast Top 40, but sure appreciate the Drake rendition of 'The Big 610' online. Complete with jingles! Does it get any better than this? I only wish I'd been able to hear the Big 610 and 93 KHJ back in the day! Doubly neat that both of these legacy stations operated on Class III, not I-a or I-b clear channels!!

To KOMY: dump that satellite crap and go back to what you started with. What does it cost to load a server with the hits and 'the original sound of Monterey Bay' sweepers? I'd think less than the bird charge.

Don,

That may be the nicest compliment I've ever received. The music mix is actually based on KFRC's music surveys from the 1960s and 1970s, and the great Jay Arnold has been kind enough to fill in a lot of the obscure but wonderful songs that were missing from my collection.

As noted, "The Big 610" raw audio feed is at mms://sc3.spacialnet.com:9784 if you'd like to check it out.

Verne, I wish Bonneville would sell 1260, and then get KYA1260 back on the air, this Bay Area stinks, as far as formats, If 1260 is still available, why not buy it? You play alot of Lower Charting songs on KYA, and I like that! XM is starting to sound Repetitive, How many times do you have to hear Brown Eyed girl? 1260 = KYA , I would like to see KYA back on the dial before Im collecting SSI! Kenny in Concord

Thanks Kenny: I and several other people Including newsperson wanted to buy 1260. I went and had a meeting with Bruce the President of Bonneville at the time last year 06 and tried to hammer out a deal. They really seemed interested as I made several proposals one to LMA the station with a 5 yr agreed to buy out, another to run it with a flat price after 5 yrs. They Bonneville are very cash rich and really didn't seem to be too interested. After many phone calls between myself and several investors we all came to the conclusion that at 30 mil asking price even though we really wanted it we could not make it work finacially. We would have been so upside down, i don't think we could have made enough $$$$ to run it so we backed off. Truth be told they still want to sell it for 30mil but a lot of lookers mostly religous but no takers at this point.
