KSGX "Generation X 104.9 " Stunting?

If Cheap Channel were going to pick a rimshot to simulcast Sports Radio wouldn't 102.9 make more sense? The weak spots of the 950 signal are in the Port Townsend area and to some extent the extreme SE like Eatonville.... However the 88kw blowtorch in OLY would fill in more holes in the AM pattern and would be an opportunity for a few staff reductions. Something they seem to love at CC.

104.9 should let the Monkey back out of the cage.

For someone with no talent- you seem to have a couple of reasonable ideas there!

I dunno you know what they say... Everything old is new again, and there is no shortage of Butt Rockers old and young these days... I spent the better part of 18 months growing an audience on The X playing active rock with a few classics mixed in... When we kicked of Monster Rock the X's butt rocking sister station it doubled the X's numbers in the first six months. People young and old did the music so who knows if they do Classic Rock with an edge they might strike a nerve with folks....

More stations need to start all-Halloween formats! It dosen't have to be X-Mas in October (look at WEZW in NJ for example).

Playlist so far is much harder than Portland's Brew and much different than suggested. No soft, cheesy 80s rock in the mix at least yet and it seems unlikely. Mostly hard modern rock and alternative (recent and classic) with a bit of hard classic rock sprinkled in. No DJs & plans for just 1 commercial break per hour. So far it sounds good. Of course it is early. Not totally certain that the mostly Monkey like music of today will be as dominant on the playlist 6 months from now. But right now it is a good option for listening.

I wonder if this is what Columbus' Gen X will evolve into. They have already changed formats to a more Modern Rock, but still calling themselves Gen X.

Back to Metal Church....I like it! Not at all what I was expecting this new Brew.

They're playing Metal Church? (Metal Church were a popular Seattle heavy metal band from the late '80s, best known for their 1988 collaboration with Sir Mix A Lot "Iron Man", which pioneered the rap/metal sound.)

That's DEEP even for your most eclectic, independently owned classic rocker out there. KZOK won't even touch them.

I'll have to listen.....This is interesting......

No, I just meant heavy metal is in rotation. My bad.

I always loved the quote on Metal Church's first LP that was something to, 'It's too heavy for us' from an A & R rep from Atlantic Records.

It's too bad they don't test well: too raw. They were right at the top of the exploding metal scene in the 80s. A homegrown northwest elite metal band. Wild Dogs were similar in the Portland area.

Going mainstream got Metallica rich. Metal Church didn't chose that path, thus obscurity today.

On topic: KSGX is interesting. The brass at Clear Channel knows they won't ever be able to make a run on the full market FM's. Only having 2/3 of the market on it's best day, leaves KSGX limited choices to be profitable.

I'm surprised they abandoned the "Gen X" format. It appeared to be low overhead format similar to the Bob FM's of the world. Honestly, that's the only way I saw KSGX in the black. Automating the hell out of it.

That said, looking at Portland's Brew. Classic rock bringing its age demos down and targeting people my age instead of 50 year olds is smart - and it's time for it. There is so much classic rock now. Things aren't like they were early 90s, classic rock can now be defined very differently depending on the demographics you are working with. Portland's Brew though, seems pretty mainstream in comparison to the early playlist of KSGX.

KSGX's light smattering of heritage classic rock cuts with a heavier doses of more modern, is interesting. At first glance, it has elements of the old funky monkey in it. The old funky monkey listeners would give this a shot. Not too much classic rock to chase them off either. Accessible enough perhaps to build on the funky monkey's numbers.

I agree, this might get traction. Making the mix different and interesting might resonate.

Yes.com isn't the most accurate for playlists, so I type with a slight bit of caution. So far though, KSGX's new incarnation seems to be an experiment by the gang at Clear Channel. A beta test for a new format.

Nice to see KSGX at least having more use than an automated partial rim shot. Test mule is the label I see for this incarnation.

If people haven't noticed yet, The new " Brew 104-9" is actually not classic rock at all. It appears that 104-9 has gone back to their old active rock ways. The only difference is that they play some old rock from the 90's and late 80's. It appears that the Funky Monkey has been ressurected from the dead only with a new name. So look out KISW! You've got a tiny bit of competition once again!
