Channel 92.3 is not long for this world, i'm sad to say, as the Bay Area alternative radio niche is just not big enough and commercially vibrant enough to realistically harbor two Modern Rock stations
the truth to the matter is that Live 105 has a much stronger brand and more than double's the overall 6+ cume of KSJO. (Live 105 cume's over 710,000 listeners 6+ to Ksjo's 300,000. AND Ksjo has slipped to a disappointing 2.1 share in its own San Jose market)
Also, It's been an impossible task to sell advertising on Ksjo in its current format. Everyone in the radio advertising biz knows Channel is simply not making any money whatsoever. Even while offering ridiculously low rates. (I used to work for a local ad agency for 12 years)
Live 105 is a Bay Area institution and a strong and viable brand that are still hitting almost 100% monthly sales quotas
They also produce 3 huge station events and Ntr monsters with Bfd, Not So Silent Night and their Halloween Party, which collectively draws more than 50,000 people each year; more than any station of any format in the country
I think Channel has done an admirable job of going up against a mammoth station as Live 105 over the years and i've enjoyed listening to them as a fan of music and Bay Area radio, but the reality here in a PPM world is that Principal Broadcasting will have much more economic success with a new format on the 92.3 FM stick.
