KTAR lineup change

From the press release.

FM News/Talk 92.3 KTAR is announcing the addition of talk show
hosts Glenn Beck and Mac Watson to its afternoon lineup. Beck will host 12-3pm and
Watson will host 3-7pm. The changes take effect Monday, September 17th.

McMahon will continue to be heard on KTAR-FM hosting The McMahon Group,
The God Show, daily commentaries, and periodic special reports.

McMahon has been bumped upstairs to Director of Public Affairs. See: http://www.ktar.com/?nid=6&sid=584431

I dunno about this. Beck is pretty good, but I've never heard of Mac Watson. Is Bonneville dumping some talent and salaries along with KTAR's traditional PM newsblocks? Seems likely.

And really, did they need two years to figure out that McMahon is past his prime?

Another racist hate monger getting more radio air time…

Let's see, Mr. Beck…

* …called Katrina survivors "scumbags"

* …threatened to kill a movie maker on air

* …slandered a congressmen

* …called a war protester a prostitute

And so on… …KTAR striving earnestly to be KFYI-lite… …looks like the bigot crowd is well served on the radio dial…

boo :mad:

isn't beck still on kxam ???

a tape delay show for primetime ktar :mad:

i'll be listening to npr and all-news online :(

glenn does good radio and is a good fit for kxam.

if beck is gonna be on fm news talk 92.3 ktar it just sounds better, it should be live.

i'd rather hear barry young on ktar; only without the applause and ooohh sfx after every statement.

leave glenn beck on kxam, unless he is live and local on fm news talk 92.3 ktar it just sounds better

This shocks me. I didn't think KTAR would ever sack McMahon. Don't know this Watson guy, but this appears to be a great move by KTAR to finally take on KFYI in talk.

How anyone could see Beck as a worse option than what KTAR is currently doing is nuts. You could run his show delayed three weeks later and it would still be stronger than what KTAR is doing 1-4.

Some thoughts;

I like having the option of a pm news drive show when I leave work, so will miss that

If KID would have stayed with KTAR I wonder if he would've got the 3-7 slot

What to do with Ted Simons, do you think any other station will pick him up or will he go back to TV?

Live talk? nope.

Local voices? nope.

I think KTAR needs to figure out what they want to do, and then stick with it. Give it time to work!

I do agree 100% with getting rid of McMan. He's a legend, but Jesus! Let him retire already! It will be interesting to check back whenever his contract expires, and see if they still need a director of public affair.

McMahon off daily?
Harvey gone?

I live near Sun City. I'll drive over, wake up Aunt Edna, and let her know! :D

But, I thought KTAR was home of LOCAL hosts.

Hill even said so.

Does this mean they could hire Joe Crummey.

As for McBland, give him a good Viking funeral.

Glen Beck sucks though.

Well, I guess the shoe really dropped this afternoon.

Closed circuit for the Master Blogger:

You know how much some of us rag the Dudeboss
over El Rushbo and Hannity being an hour old, so
how do you explain one of your midday dayparts
(12-3pm) being six hours old? That's right,
the Beckster is live 6-9am PT. I noticed how you
made absolutely no mention of his not being live
on KT'R-FM in your press release. ::) The 55/FYI
guys will have a field day with this!

And what a nice birthday greeting (he's 89 today)
to Paul Harvey--sending him packing. But I suppose
the Aunt Edna demos did him in. Is placing him on
another local station a necessity so ABC doesn't
pull your affiliation?

This shocks me. Give him the Preston Westmoreland Going Away Package. While I think Mr. Harvey is on his 'fairwell tour,' I thought he would be on KT'R forever. I admit that I skip his News and Commentary but I love to guess Now You Know with weird names like Adolf, Tito, Amin, and Stalin

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mac_Watson

In 2005, Mac Watson was voted Richmond's most annoying radio talk-show host by Richmond Magazine.

It's been long time for genocide advocate Paul Harvey to step aside.

We didn't come this far because we're made of sugar candy. Once upon a time, we elbowed our way onto and across this continent by giving smallpox-infected blankets to Native Americans. That was biological warfare. And we used every other weapon we could get our hands on to grab this land from whomever.

Hyperbole alert!!!!

Are you ever happy Waaaaaaaaugh?

Glad to see Harvey get the boot, his schtick was old by the 70s... and it will be good to hear Pat in *small* doses. Glen Beck is a tool, though. couldn't they get someone else? jeez. maybe he's temp. until they find someone.

Well, well, well, Isn't this an interesting conundrum!

The normal crew of KTAR "fanboys" that occupy the board are mysteriously silent all of the sudden, not just because of the small slip in the recent ratings trend, but because of this bizarre change in the mindset of the programming department at KTAR.

I will say that I like the move from a competitive standpoint, Glenn Beck is a personality with a pulse, unlike most of the hosts (local and otherwise) on the dial at KTAR in the past and present. He brings enthusiasm to the table and doesn't ask what your favorite restaurant might be. So, I will applaud KTAR for actually doing things to be competitive, now they have TWO hosts with something going for them (Hendrie and Beck). As for Mac Whatever, I am relatively unaware of him so I will not put him down before having an opportunity to listen, however he may be something worth listening to.

On the other hand: This is complete and utter hypocrisy by the master-blogger over at FM News/Talk-No-static-it-just-sounds-better-live-local-voices 92-3. How can you roundly criticize KFYI for having a non-local personality and dislocating your shoulder to pat yourself on the back in letting us know that you believe in live and local personalities and then bring in a show that is 6 hours in the can?

KTAR can't possibly compete if they 1) switch positioners every 32 minutes, 2) continue to flip around the lineup more often than Bob Melvin does with the D-backs and 3) take on this altruistic position of being live and local and then completely turn on your listeners by doing just the opposite.

Perhaps I'll write the master blogger an e-check so that he can go out and buy himself a clue.

I'm not one of the KTAR "fanboys" but I'll speak up. I think this is a great move by KTAR. Ankarlo is so much better than Barry Young. Glen Beck has a great talk show that will compete head to head with Hannity like Pat McMahon never could. And, they go from a news show with no personality to one that sounds like it will be very opinionated. KTAR will still be way more local than KFYI too. They get the best of both worlds. Maybe I'm missing something, but I think it's a great move.

Not a great move, but a move in the right direction. There is NO AUDIENCE GROWTH with a three hour news block in PMD. KT'R needs to be talkin'. And bumping McBland upstairs and off the air should have been done when KT'R moved to 92~Three, where hip-hop used to live. Unfortunately TMISU put too much stock into research and thought they could be a hip newstalker with the geriatric toaster-talkin' McBland in a key daypart. Nurse Jeff and I think the ultimate irony would be the Master Blogger leaving and the Evil Joe Crummey returning. Sweet!

..Here's the talk show host that you really like, and I aint no dummy. I feel so happy when I'm at the mike, 'cause I'm Joe Crummey!...

The Master Blogger is the best thing that's happened to KTAR in a long time. Trust me. I was here during the dark days.
