KTAR lineup change

The Master Blogger is the best thing that's happened to KTAR in a long time. Trust me. I was here during the dark days.

you mean last week? ::)

Seems to Nurse Jeff and me that the Master Blogger rode the wrong horse too long at KT'R and is scrambling to find success. This is called on the job training. But given the amount of bucks TMISU have shelled out for KT'R and KT'R-FM, we think the Master Blogger is under the gun. We'll predict right now that if KT'R doesn't knock KFWhyEye out of the race by April 1st, someone will be blogging elsewhere. And our hunch is he'll learn not to share his thought process with hundreds of armchair PDs. Like us!

I'm not one of the KTAR "fanboys" but I'll speak up. I think this is a great move by KTAR. Ankarlo is so much better than Barry Young. Glen Beck has a great talk show that will compete head to head with Hannity like Pat McMahon never could. And, they go from a news show with no personality to one that sounds like it will be very opinionated. KTAR will still be way more local than KFYI too. They get the best of both worlds. Maybe I'm missing something, but I think it's a great move.

As I said, from a competitive standpoint it is an excellent move, but it's just so odd that you'd tell your audience one thing and then do something completely different a few short months later.

I'll disagree with you regarding Aunt Carlos--I don't see what people find so appealing about him--sure he's better than Charles "ultra-conspiracy nut" Goyette, Laura Ingram or Stephanie "sound effect after every non-substantive word" Miller, Thom Hartman, et al, however the Barely Famous, Nearly Young one puts on a far better program than Aunt Carlos. Sure, Barry uses the same 6 sound effects from 1975, references non-existent characters and has conversations with the same shtick in them that he's done for years with Michelle Larson, but that is a far better alternative than "What do you think about this illegal immigration, give me a call..." or "Do you like (item x), give me a call.." Asking questions and soliciting calls requires no research, does not build much of a rapport with the audience and is exactly what's wrong with talk radio. While Barry takes a call once a month, he at least discusses things that he has researched and brings substance to the table, you may disagree completely with his takes, but at least it's not a cheesy survey-radio session where you can tell the host is mailing it in to grab a fat, rather undeserved, check every two weeks.

I really wish KID would go back to KTAR.

He also need to go to the Mountains for a weekend shoot Machine Guns and Tannerite!

Great stress reliever ! ;D

I am a major talk radio listener, and I think that Glenn Beck does suck. He is THE worst nationally syndicated talk show host that makes it into the Top 10 (excluding liberal talkers). I don't ee why stations in Seattle and now Phoenix have decided to air Glenn Beck tape-delayed. KTTH in Seattle got rid of a live broadcast of Michael Savage from 3PM-6PM there just to add Glenn Beck. Beck was a disaster in Louisville, and will be a disaster on KTAR and in Seattle as well.

Doctor, check your meds.

Aren't you the one who has been talking about how much KTAR has been sounding better lately? Aren't you also the one who said they should pull McBland off the air?

So please, can we just have Joe Crummey back now, Dudeboss, pleeeeeze! J. D. is probably a nice man but he is just not listenable.

I'm just an armchair non-industry guy, but this does seem to smack of hypocrisy! Live talk, local voices, come on!!

Beck has got to be just a fill in until they get another local guy, right??

I didn't see this coming, and correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the last numbers show KT'R improving in key demos?
Why this change now? Doesn't the afternoon news hold its own or better??

Which consultant were they listening to this last week? When will we see further line-up changes, 2 or 3 weeks or months??

The whole thing is definitely interesting...

One last thing,

Wasn't the master blogger supposedly going to L.A.??

Only radio people will care about whether this guy is syndicated or not. And, as many of you have said, local versus national doesn't matter. People want interesting radio. Period.

KT'R does sound better than a year ago. The elimination of NoonSnooze, Paul Harvey, McBland and the afternoon NewsSnooze (as relevant as the Phoenix Gazette) will make the station sound even better. Beck vs Hannity won't work, but may be a stopgap measure. We know nothing of the new PMD talker, but can anything be as bad as J.D. Loudmouth? Yes we've been calling for the retirement of McBland for a long time now. And for your information, the Nurse and I self medicate ~ in this business ya gotta!

No need to tell them more about what's in our medicine cabinet, Doc.

And to the point at hand, what we've said all along about KF-edupYI applies to KT'R. Who cares about memorex or syndication. Have a take and don't suck. Ankarlo was KT'R's first good move in that direction. Sounds like this new guy will be too. Beck will be better than McBland but not sure about beating Hannity. Looks like the Dr. may have slipped away from the hut to implant some huevos on the Master Blogger. We'll miss Gerald.

So now that Pats off the Air who will we complain about? ;D

I Will always fondly hold the infant days of "THE NEWS ROOM" in my heart.

Gail, Pat, Kid, and Gatiuos(SP?)

While this is NOT the same Nurse Jeff who serves me faithfully, I don't dispute a thing the mini-me nurse sez. This month's special is Huevo Implants. Dudeboss may wanna swing by the Buckeye Media Hut and check out our twofer special!

[EDIT] Anyone can take anything out of context, and even if it wasn't, who cares? Talent, results, and ad revenues matter.

It would be nice to see Beck on in the morning, though, seeing that KFYI is already local there. Besides, Ankarlo sucks. Mac Watson isn't half bad actually; he filled in for Beck and is the best of the non-major market talents (ie Crummey and John and Ken vs. f/WLAC's Kevin Wall).

[EDIT-inflammatory]

My predictions:

Pat "retires" when his contract is up.

KTAR's "largest news room in arizona" begins to shrink.

KTAR continues to change its name and slogan every few months.

Dr. Akbar says something lame.
