KTAR lineup change

Is Dead Simons moderating the board?

Lost in this is Mr. Simons is losing his job. Isn't this the second time he was fired? I believe he did 12:30-4:00 before Tony Femino took over the slot.

Interesting spin in the Republic. KTAR spin, my translation:

Longtime media personality Pat McMahon is ending his daily radio talk show and stepping into a new role: He has been named director of public affairs for KTAR (92.3 FM).

Translation: We gave him a bogus title with a paycheck so he won't rip us in the paper.

"Given his relationships in the community, he will be a great representative for KTAR," said Erik Hellum, station vice president and market manager. "This is exciting for both Pat and the station."

Translation: Exciting that we got him off the air and he agreed to a paycheck for playing along.

The move to drop the show was a joint decision by McMahon and the station, Hellum said.

Translation: Joint decision? And I've got some Florida swamp land I'd love to sell you.

I used to love listening to Ted when he was doing mornings on KZON. Good times! I enjoyed his morning show.

I have no doubt that Ted will land on his feet somewhere. Good luck, Ted!

Glen Beck and that other guy sound like a really uninspired move doomed to fail, but anything--even them--anything has got to be better than what I'm hearing on KTAR at this moment--Pat McMahon interviewing DR. SAM Benjamin. Sam just gave the number 602-954-2689 and the website sdbenjamin.com to the caller who's got bad circulation. Ugh, Pat at his worst.

I've been saying KTAR needed Beck or Dr. Laura in this daypart even back when they were 620. How are you going to take advantage of a younger audience on FM if you're programmed for 92 year olds? Radio people think news blocks are great, and perhaps they are, but audiences don't care anymore. Beck brings a new life to the station.

I'm a news junkie (one reason I majored in journalism), and enjoyed the afternoon snooze on KTAR. ;D Of course, I am one of those boring radio people. 8)

I don't disagree with you KOHS, and I would have probably kept a half hour from noon-12:30, but your opinion or mine does not reality make. There are so many places to get the news. People want opinion, especially men, which as the recent failure of Greenstone has again indicated, are the primary consumers of AM and talk radio.

Agreed! Too bad KTAR won't be catering to the news junkies anymore. :(

Thank goodness for the internet!! 8)

It's not as if they won't be doing any news any more.

Call off the bagpipes.

..but someone is gonna be thrown overboard as there's no justification for a large news staff after 9am. We'll see how deep TMISU's pockets are!

I think they need to play more LDS commercials.

Its like an audio version of a "Family Circus" cartoon.

nauseating

Legend, they are PSA's, not commercials. And, I doubt Bill Keane would appreciate you converting his family to Mormonism. ;D He is a faithful member of my in-laws Catholic parish in Scottsdale. ;)

I meant PSA's, my bad.

Did you ever see the "Dysfunctional Family Circus" website?

Readers put in their own captions for strips.

Funny, sick, and oh so wrong. I loved it.

Ded Simons was removed from the air chair two days early as his
last 4-7 co-hosting was Wednesday. His sub (Michael Dixon) gave
his name only and not a "filling in for" at the top-o-the-show both
yesterday and today.

I suppose it's a bit surprising Russ didn't yank him as soon as KT'R
had press released/blogged about the changes, which is the usual
M.O. when an airstaffer is leaving the building.

Also check out the Master Blogger's blog for a Paul Harvey update
(posted at 0746 today), as there's a temporary reprieve for two of
the three Harveycasts:
