KVET CONTINUES TO SLIDE

I think the most troubling thing to me is how little the human factor means to the people in control of KVET. Relationships that were formed over decades are disregarded as some consultant, or middle manager, or research director decides that 'X' brand of commercial country and 'Y' type of personality are what will be needed to attract 'Z' category of demographics.
The folks who work there now need to consider what all their selfless devotion will mean when it's their turn to be sacrificed in the name of cost cutting or demo's.
The loyal local sponsors will stand by their favorite station, even after the agencies stop buying (because they're no longer in the top 5 of their Male 25-54 demo). But will Maxwell or Ray Henning or any of the other local businesses feel any loyalty when the people they had relationships with are no longer part of the station?
Who is next on the chopping block?

My point about dead air...and the mistakes...is this: PPM research (which DOES matter) says that listeners tune out, give up, and stop consuming radio when the product suffers. Whether it was a "tech" error on Sunday, or just plain laziness, I would expect the powers that be that operate such a "legendary" station to not stand for this.

If KVET were owned by some second tier operator, then I'd expect it and pass it off. I'd expect it in New Braunfels, but surprisingly rarely hear any tech issues or double audio like I do on KASE/KVET.

So, Chris; Jay... no comment about Don Miller getting cut?
You know he was once PD of KVET....

As well as a good jock and a heck-of-a traffic reporter. I have known Don for almost 20 years, and I've never known him to be anything but a dedicated broadcast professional. This is the first I have learned of his departure, and I'm very sorry to hear of it.

traffic guys are expendable. they were just reading from a computer.

the same computer screen will be read from by a guy a few hours away.

its about saving money. and a good business decision. should have been done earlier

So THAT'S what trolling is.

They turned KVET into from one of the best unique country stations around, to just a normal repeating jukebox.

I guess I need to quit trolling now. ???

seriously, why pay a guy more to do what you can get cheaper (and better) somewhere else?

If it's so much better to outsource why don't we tell our audience where their traffic reporter is watching their traffic from so they can appreciate it more?

the KVET traffic reporter was reading from a screen. He wasnt watching traffic. HE WAS READING A WEB PAGE.

the same web page will be read by someone else. 3 hrs away. and much cheaper.

please answer how thats a bad business decision? especially when report after report says that traffic on the radio is becoming less and less needed

Traffic on the radio is not about traffic. It's about the package of :15 ads that go with the report. CC's been on a rampage regionalizing news, then production, and now traffic operations across the country--it's not just an Austin thing.

Will Anne Hudson share the same fate?

Everyone at CC eventually will...either you'll be broadcasting to a regional audience, babysitting tens of transmitters, selling for dozens of stations, well, you get the idea.

It's General Sarnoff's idea brought up to date...a few big, national networks making all the money for a few barons.

We're at the point where very little above 92.1 is worth the electricity it takes to listen.

you think they sold :15s because Don Miller was doing traffic? They sell traffic without identifying who will actually be reading the report. its not an :15 endorsement they are selling. The same amount of :15s will be sold. Nothing is different. Except money is saved.

money is saved

And what is lost is the goodwill of everyone who knew Don, or worked with Don, or appreciated Don, or felt a connection to Don.
