here is just a few interesting pieces of ear candy i picked up on 104.5, while my XM antenna has been down this last week and a half: 1) something stupid- frank and nancy sinatra. 2) rocking chair-gwen mcrae. 3) the chokin kind-joe simon. 4) busted-ray charles. 5) oh babe what would you say-hurricane smith. 6) cloud nine-temptations. 7) moonlight feels right-starbuck. 8) stop look and listen-stylistics. 9) the way you look tonight-frank sinatra. 10)convoy-cw mccall (actually, i hate that song, but cw mccall has some kick ass country truckin music, got all his albums on vinyl, and/or CD in my library).
like several posters have stated: "enjoy it while it lasts". but, back to XM for me tonight, as the new antenna arrived via USPS..yee haw!
Indeed, although I have an idea that could be done with KMCQ, and even though to some it might be a long shot, it's worth checking in to:
KSER, KEXP and a station in Michigan that's an NPR station and plays oldies that I listen to online(WGVU AM) are all non-commercial stations, they basically survive on listener donations and listener support, so since those stations are succesful and there is an oldies station that is non commerical and does well(albeit in another part of the country) and KMCQ is doing OK without commercials and there are people that like it, why couldn't KMCQ apply for non-commercial status?
You could hire some Seattle radio legends, and say "OK, what we have here is a non-com station, so play whatever oldies you want", I mean why couldn't it work?
Danny Holiday's doing his Rock and Roll Time Machine on KSER in Everett, and that's non-commercial, so why not have KMCQ as the South Puget Sound's version of KSER, but as all classic hits/oldies? I think it would do very well personally, and with the right DJs could have a great following like the other non commercial music stations do.
You could have South Puget Sound buisnesses as underwriters(Covington, Auburn, Kent, etc.) as well, if KMCQ can do this then they should do it; problem is I don't know if First could make 104.5 non-commercial because of its dial position.
But it's worth a shot anyway, and I think they could try it
