KVMK flipping today at 1 PM?

Absolutely! The format is highly listened to by the Mexican and Columbian Drug cartels driving their humvees and mixing it up with the federales in Juarez on the weekends.

Would that be a cartel from the Columbia River or the District of Columbia?

And Mexican "traficantes" would not like this kind of music at all.

I’m disappointed at the change from “Movin’” to “Mega” in Dallas. I used to listen online to this station. Dallas is losing a diverse station so that the brilliant folks (not) at CBS can put on another Spanish language station. (Don’t you guys already have enough of those?)

Movin' just didn't work, plain and simple. It may have been a diverse, upbeat station, but it didn't get the audience it needed. Movin' hasn't really worked much of anywhere. From a business standpoint, it's a turkey.

Again: I will miss this station. From now on, when I want good Dallas radio, I guess I’ll just have to call “Jack.” Hopefully, if they’re smart, KZZA (106.7) will drop their Spanish language format, and get “Movin’.”

While KZZA may or may not be successful or a good station, going Movin' would be a stupid move. Again, it doesn't work.

I can't believe you people that get all excited by all that over stretched plastic those promo girls carry around with them. I like the real deal and that is not what any of these Promo girls have. Sorry for the staff that has been let go.

We’re opening a new chapter in Dallas/Fort Worth radio history today as CBS Radio launches MEGA 107.5, a Spanish Language Hot AC targeting Adults 25-54. You’ll recognize cross over artists such as Shakira, Paulina Rubio, Ricky Martin and Enrique Iglisias. We believe this is a significant opportunity for our company and an extremely exciting new entertainment brand for our community!

You made some friends of mine from a Mexican heritage hopping mad! They liked Movin' and choose NOT to speak Spanish or listen to Spanish language programming. They think it stereotypes them.

Another nail in the coffin of what was once a great radio market. SATELLITE RULES!!!

Some ponderings:

54 year olds listening to Top 40 Spanish? That's like saying Kiss-FM caters to 25-54. What I heard today on 107.5 sounds like EXACTLY what Kiss plays, except with Spanish words dubbed in. There was even some pseudo-rap in there.

So Nikki Nite is gone? After all the help she gave when Charley Connolly was axed, stepping in to PD KVIL *AND* Movin', and to take airshifts to cover the removal of Terry King. She also was in charge when this current "Lite Rock 103.7" imaging was implemented after Christmas 2006 (or 2007?) Nice "thank you" to her for all of her efforts.

And, proving that there was SO much planning done for this change...Purdy's request that if you know anyone who's bilingual to put in their credentials for a job...sheesh. So let's not seek out TALENT or bring in proven leaders from other markets or from the local competition...let's see if Miss Marguerita in accounting has a bilingual friend next door who might enjoy being on the radio. Then again, friends of friends probably don't have high salary expectations. Domino, on the other hand, might.

It will be interesting to find out how liner card reading and generic board op/jock crap will go over with Hispanic listeners. I guess it's time that demo gets THEIR dose of whitewashed, plastic, formulaic "radio." Yeah, white listeners used to expect (and receive) that sense of community and commonality that Hispanic listeners still demand. Time to wake up and smell the coffee. Today's radio doesn't pay for (nor honor, nor respect) that kind of local commitment.

And I'm so happy to hear that Brian Purdez and Kurt Johngado have the intelligence and sensibilities and KEEN insight to program a Spanish station now. I had no idea they even understood the language! (Now wasn't Purdez at Clear Channel still when that "success" known as "La Preciosa" was put on the air?) In light of that, I've composed a little letter to Kurt, to celebrate his new-found Hispanic heritage and to ask pertinent questions about the direction of Mega:

There is no pseudo-rap. There is some reggaetón, which is different and vastly wider in demographic appeal.

Similar formats do extremely well in 25-54, with significant 45-54 listening. The core is 35-44.

Movin was better than Spanish S____t. I do not understand CBS going to Spanish programming. I hope they see the problems other Spanish station are having in the DFW market. I like to have Smooth JAZZ back!!! CBS is crazy in the head with this idea!!!! I need a GUN to my head!!!! Thank YOU!!!

As much as I agree with you Dan, the truth is that the CONsultants killed Smooth Jazz. The programmers had the right idea with the format, but CONsultants came in and said to add R&B to the mix....WRONG!!!!!!!!

Granted Smooth Jazz skews older, then you should have hired some sales people who understand the format and could relate to the audience. So now we have to hear the wonderful music online or on SiriusXM instead of over the air....

I am still amazed Kurt Johnson still has a job with CBS,considering his decisions have lead to a decrease in ratings at any station he touches. I guess CBS likes to keep the lowest common denominator around.

As for the Format. The Zetas and drug lords of Mexico, and the cartel in Bogota Columbia are rejocing while planning a shipment . Something to listen to while the deals go down.

There is no such thing as Bogota, Columbia.

And the cartels are in Cali and Medellín, Colombia. ot Bogotá.

Racists and bigots, generally speaking, are of inferior education and intelligence. This is proof.

The folks you blame are with the same company that invented the format and gave it its name.

In a large market with domos mostly over 55, it does not matter who is selling if the agenices don't buy 55+ on orders from their clients.

The problem? Like KLNO's problem of being number 1 25-54? Yeah, that's a real problem.

I don't know how they're doing revenue wise (want to share some Miller Kaplan info, DE?) but it stands to reason that if they're #1 25-54 there's probably some billing that goes with that...

The station is being programmed by Omar Romero out of KLOL in Houston. Omar, previously, was the local PD of La Preciosa in Dallas.

Well, it is good to see that CRAP radio is alive and well in DFW. Of course, this just adds to the long list of CRAP stations in DFW now. It totally blows my mind how bad radio in DFW has gotten. Seriously. What the hell has happened. For that matter... look at how bad it has gotten every where!

Side note... who ever is writing these insane articles about how RADIO is not dying etc, etc, etc, these people have no clue what they are talking about. All anyone has to do is look at the companies and see what is happening to them and then turn on the radio and listen to what it being broadcasted. The only reason radio is still around is because it's FREE to consume. It's like the THRIFTY NICKEL of the entertainment industry. And this is coming from someone who LOVES RADIO! I always wanted to work in radio as a kid... and eventually did and LOVE IT! However, things are sucking bad and they don't look to be any better in the future.

But then... what the hell do I know.

Boy, that speaks volumes, and it shows even more short-sightedness in the local CBS cluster (is that even possible?) Let's take someone who was responsible for the Clear Channelization of Hispanic radio (that whitewashing, plastic, generic, nationalized sound I wrote of earlier) and put him in charge of programming this new "horizon" for the DFW CBS cluster. Hmmm, it didn't work for La Preciosa...so let's hire the guy to make the SAME mistakes now at CBS! (Not too far off the concept of bringing such a "success" like Purdy over to CBS from CC.) Question for DE: Do Hispanic Houstonians buy into that voicetracked, cookie-cutter schlock at KLOL, or do they (like in DFW) still gravitate to the Spanish stations that actually DO serve their community and ooze those concepts of commonality and unity?

(Then again, I guess if you're going to "test" a format in DFW, why not throw it on that little 56kW stick at the end of the dial. Who's listening, anyway?)

OK, so let's check the score here...you honor mistake-makers and corporate yes-men and keep them employed and paid well, and you fire the talent that tries to save their stations from ill-thought, boring, generic, stab-in-the-dark, beancounter-approved programming.

"And the cartels are in Cali and Medellín, Colombia. ot Bogotá. "
[EDIT]

Yeah the same Pd of the failed Clear channel attempt for a spanish language format is the guy behind Mega.
One year or two years for this? Most likely. Crow summed it up well. DFW radio is vast becoming an audio Titanic.
