Ha ha haaa! That brings back some classic memories!!
As a matter of fact, I opened right up to this 3rd page of this post, and Ron & Don was the FIRST thing I thought when I saw "ZZP". Next thing I know, I keep reading and BAM! It says "Ron & Don".
Those were the (funny) days of my life. I remember when I won a Ron & Don contest and scored a date with some chick who was (at the time) way older than me. The contest was to throw a pumkin or something of that size as far as I could in the Abco (Now Bashas) parking lot on 7th street near Bethany Home Rd. Whoever threw it the farthest, won. Since I was the only one who showed up, I won by default!
The date never actually materialized, just in case you were wondering...
Here I was still in my very final years of being a teenager, winning some date with a 35-40 year old woman (as far as I could remember). Whoever thought up this contest didn't think it all the way through, and also didn't think that there would be someone like me hearing about the contest, then coming along and winning it!
I also remember when Ron & Don used to make fun of the "yo yo yo.." station, and also used self-deprecating jokes to talk about how bad they themselves were as a morning show, and how only their "faithful 51" listeners in the valley tuned in faithfully on a regular basis. I also remember back during this time, when I used to mimick all the radio stations I liked, I was asked to dj some grand opening of Jamba Juice near Camelback and 16th street. Trying to be like Ron & Don, as the music was playing, I started repetitively getting on the mic talking about how I had a lot of good music and no listeners. I also started talked about my "faithful 1" listener, which was some girl I brought with me to the event. She ended up not "liking" me because she thought I had low self esteem and didn't know I was trying to be like Ron & Don! I remember I also played the Power Workout at Noon with Dj Earth in the mix at 12pm WHILE doing the gig (since it fit in with the music I was playing, anyway)!
That was the last & final gig I ever received for any Jamba Juice grand opening promotion since.
Ahhh... those were the days of innocence and not yet having any care in the world about anything important. Funny how things change in time...
Anyway, 101.5 Jamz, Jams, and no one else jams jamming jams better once they jam the jams they jam. Just wanted to throw that in to
