KZON 101.5 JAMZ

"It also ment pretty much the end of Bruce Kelly. I know that after Power he went to 105.9 and back to KZZP for a bit, but both of those stints combined lasted less then a year."

No BK was on Power from March 93 until June 98 - walked out because of St.James - then crossed to ZZP for one year until leaving for DC and XM. Party was never a factor at all. In fact Bruce was instrumental in hiring Kid&Ruben for afternoons who took over after he left for ZZP. Numbers at ZZP rose to #1 again before they brought in the horrible Ron&don and some loser PD named Marc Summers. How do I know? I produced him.

Well, if you produced him, then you don't have to ask Minnie Mouse why Bruce disappeared from ZZP the second time around. It sucks that he got fired, but it probably saved his life.

Then John you have none of the facts correct. Here they are.
The Disneyland episode you refer to happen the 3rd week of January 99.
After announcing on air, before any story broke, of this incident he left ZZP on Super Bowl Sunday 1999 to enter rehab, of his own free will, in The Meadows in Wickenberg.
I drove him there.

He returned 35 days later to join Jackie West on air, Lu Valentino had been dismissed during his rehab. He did extensive tv interviews and he and his wife did two hours with McMahon on KTAR.

He continued on-air through the spring book and into July when his contract was up he chose not to renew when a new PD named Summers arrived and wanted to drastically change the direction of the station. We all know what happened there.

Bruce then entered into talks with KTAR and Laurie Cantillo to take over morning drive, when he received an offer to return to his hometown of DC to start a new station in the jammin oldies format for Clear Channel. The same company he just left at ZZP. He took the DC job, even though KTAR was his goal. His older sons lived in the DC area and had just had another kid in Fountain Hills and wanted to be closer to them. I drove his family to Sky Harbor to leave for DC.

XM came calling in August of 2000, he left before they switched formats to chr and there you go.

So no firing at ZZP. Lifesaving came with his decision to enter rehab. He talks about his problems with substances all the time on his show in Fargo. I know because I watch his video feed online and watch his videos on his web site.

You don't know squat John. I do. I was there. You weren't.

I know Bruce Kelly. I worked with Bruce Kelly. Bruce Kelly is a friend of mine.
You're no Bruce Kelly.

Point is, Bruce, um, er, Bill, I'm glad you're he's still alive.

Nope wrong again John.

Sorry you're embarrassed about trying to pass off any inside knowledge.

And since you're such an encyclopedia of Valley radio you should know exactly who I am and where I am producer now.But you're not and you don't.Especially since BK got me the gig.So leave him out of this.Better yet I see we are both on his facebook so since you have all the inside info why don't you call him and he'll tell you my identity.

I just did.And this is what he said.
" ::)"

Fascinating stuff, but the guy you're arguing over left town a long time before KZON became 101.5 Jamz...which is the topic here in case you'd forgotten. ::)

Ha ha haaa! That brings back some classic memories!!

As a matter of fact, I opened right up to this 3rd page of this post, and Ron & Don was the FIRST thing I thought when I saw "ZZP". Next thing I know, I keep reading and BAM! It says "Ron & Don".

Those were the (funny) days of my life. I remember when I won a Ron & Don contest and scored a date with some chick who was (at the time) way older than me. The contest was to throw a pumkin or something of that size as far as I could in the Abco (Now Bashas) parking lot on 7th street near Bethany Home Rd. Whoever threw it the farthest, won. Since I was the only one who showed up, I won by default!

The date never actually materialized, just in case you were wondering...

Here I was still in my very final years of being a teenager, winning some date with a 35-40 year old woman (as far as I could remember). Whoever thought up this contest didn't think it all the way through, and also didn't think that there would be someone like me hearing about the contest, then coming along and winning it!

I also remember when Ron & Don used to make fun of the "yo yo yo.." station, and also used self-deprecating jokes to talk about how bad they themselves were as a morning show, and how only their "faithful 51" listeners in the valley tuned in faithfully on a regular basis. I also remember back during this time, when I used to mimick all the radio stations I liked, I was asked to dj some grand opening of Jamba Juice near Camelback and 16th street. Trying to be like Ron & Don, as the music was playing, I started repetitively getting on the mic talking about how I had a lot of good music and no listeners. I also started talked about my "faithful 1" listener, which was some girl I brought with me to the event. She ended up not "liking" me because she thought I had low self esteem and didn't know I was trying to be like Ron & Don! I remember I also played the Power Workout at Noon with Dj Earth in the mix at 12pm WHILE doing the gig (since it fit in with the music I was playing, anyway)!

That was the last & final gig I ever received for any Jamba Juice grand opening promotion since.

Ahhh... those were the days of innocence and not yet having any care in the world about anything important. Funny how things change in time...

Anyway, 101.5 Jamz, Jams, and no one else jams jamming jams better once they jam the jams they jam. Just wanted to throw that in to Keep The Overall Wall of Text Related to the Original Topic!  ;D

If you want to hear hit music by Daughtry and other pop rock artists, KZZP is the best bet, and is probably the most likely place you might even have a chance to hear Sick Puppies ....

KZZP HAS NOW ADDED SICK PUPPIES.
