That's not enough to determine a pattern...what was next, "I Never Promised You a Rose Garden," then "Tear in My Beer," then "Rainbow Stew," then "My D-I-V-O-R-C-E"? More info, please!!! What's the new nickname? Does the jock do a fake Texas accent?

OFF NOW: My pre-set for 92.5. Goodbye, old friend.

I can't help but think back to January 1, 1975, when Top 40 KAFM-92.5 flipped to Progressive Country "K-FM." I feel the same sense of loss. And sad to think that us classic rock fans are now forced over to the Bone. Who woulda ever thought. Hello, XM.

The KZPS website calls this new station "Lone Star 92-5".

Sounds catchy, I am not a big fan of country, but I would give it a listen.

It sounds OK. Give Clear Channel some credit for putting on something unique and not another clone of some station in another market (KEGL, KJKK, KMVK, etc.) or something so generic musically (KVIL, KDMX, KHKS, KSCS, etc.), you couldn't tell it from a station in Tampa or Boston.

The other piece that will be interesting is the sponsorships rather than standard commercials...

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/04/23/business/media/23radio.html?ref=business

Doesn't classical WFMT Chicago still use only all live spots? It looks like sort of a variation.

Hey, be thankful that it's a format that you can understand, (English).....

2 DJ's will be back is Bo & Jim, Jon Dillion, & the return of Redbeard. Beat that KHYI.

Folks...this is more than a flip. Apparently, CC is trying out an entirely new model for advertising. Advertisers will sponsor an entire hour, without commercials. Instead, the jocks will mention the hour sponsor repeatedly. This won't begin immediately, but is planned within 60 days.

Is Joe(l) Folger the consultant for this thing or did they just steal his idea for free?

The idea has been around for a long time, so I don't think it is stolen from anyone.

Just in the last 20 years around the state, you've had KFAN 101.1 San Antonio (now oldies KONO-FM) that was a progressive/Americana outlet called "the Fan, Texas Radio" in the early 1990s. It was LMAed to KONO to become KONO-FM; the KFAN format was moved to Hill Country signal (where it still is as KFAN-FM 107.9 Johnson City/Fredericksburg).

In 1993, Abilene's KCWS 102.7 "Rockin' Country West 102" played a mix of classic rock and mainstream country (really, it was Foreginer into Billy Ray Cyrus on an aircheck I have of it).

In 2001, Houston's KIKK-FM 95.7 morphed into country/Americana/classic rock as "95-7 Kick FM, Houston's Country Alternative." That's probably the closest to what KZPS is like as there was no "Nashville country" on it. The difference is that KZPS seems to be majority classic rock (so far) whereas KIKK-FM was majority Americana/Texas country. It sounds like KZPS will be mix of KIKK-FM and KFAN-FM. KFAN-FM lists is core artists on its website as: Jr. Brown - Bonnie Raitt - Joe Ely - Eric Clapton - Gary P. Nunn - John Mellencamp - Steve Earle - Billy Joe Shaver -Lyle Lovett - Nanci Griffith -
Robert Earle Keen Jr.- Sheryl Crow - Austin Lounge Lizards - Rex Foster- Asleep at the Wheel - ZZ Top - Stevie Ray Vaughan - Jerry Jeff Walker - Willie Nelson -
Darden Smith - Jack Ingram - Christine Albert - Calvin Russell -Wallflowers - Tom Petty - Son Volt - V-Roys - Toni Price - Geronimo Trevino III - John Arthur Martinez - Flaco Jimenez - Texas Tornados - Marcia Ball - Tish Hinohosa
