Jim Winston of the National Association of Black Owned Broadcasters claims the PPM is "a new threat to minority ownership" - and he's the first to bring up that topic during today's House Subcommittee hearing about the FCC. Winston says "initial results have shown drastic declines" for stations serving African-American and Hispanic audiences, and he argues that the PPM's an even bigger problem for minority broadcasters than the FCC's plans to let newspapers and broadcasters combine in the top 20 markets. Can Congress investigate a ratings service? Winston says it did that just three years ago, when Nielsen started rolling out its Local People Meter in big TV markets
Yes, there are diary-friendly formats and PPM-friendly formats. Stations will tweak, if not change, formats to do what is best for their station, cluster and the almighty shareholder. Fact of life my friends.
Ahh yes, the CONsultant brainwashing has set in. Take something with zero meaning on the surface, and spin it in such a way as to make it sound important, then falsly believe in it. What was it Rob & Randy were saying on Sunday? Something about, "If you say it with authority, people will believe you".
