lash...Station for sale...

I drove many times over the bridge in question. I got my information from people at the World Color plant a half mile from the south end of that bridge. To be fair, downtown Covington is a lot closer.

If a bridge is collapsing, any person is authorized to save lives by any reasonable means.

The story as I got it, was that the Ripley police were informed before the collapse.
They were said to be unimpressed with the story of the bridge falling apart.

If this is completely wrong or inaccurate please set the record straight.
They should have picked up the phone, called Covington PD, and each department sent out a car to the bridge.

Anything that could have been done to prevent this (or any other) tragedy, should be done. But I doubt anyone could predict such a thing. It was a pretty new bridge when it fell.
Hindsight IS 20/20. We'll never be able to go back and find out who knew what when, however, I won't let you, nor anyone else, try to place the blame on the Ripley PD when they literally had nothing to do with the incident except lend another jurisdiction aid after the fact.

The World Color Plant is in Covington on the Tipton County side of the bridge...so why would you think those people would know if someone informed the Ripley PD? Wouldn't those folks know more about the reactions of Covington PD? I don't know what Covington did or didn't do, nor what they knew when.

Everybody in the area was heartbroken when it happened. (On BOTH sides of the bridge)

...mmmm........bad day on the golf course today Meepster? So, you know who I am and where I work.....big deal.... I did two stints at TRB. The first was in the mid 70's with the studio was up above the Rack & Que Grill on the west side of the square. The second time, was after the move to the new place. Ruth Dunn from Benton County Kentucky owned the place then. Since Ripley is your hometown, you have just cause to bow up your back when someone demeans it.....and for the same reason, you can't possibly relate or understand my basic point. I know that you are a bright and witty person and I'm sure I'd enjoy a casual conversation with you.....but you'll never change my attitude and I'll never change yours.....no matter how many ass whippings are involved. By the way, my concern for Don Paris was legit.

And Littlebigradio...
I used to enjoy going back and forth with you on some things. And I've actually liked many of your posts. I now know who you are and where you work.
It seems to me that maybe your attitude may have had something to do with people from Ripley making you feel like an outsider. I seem to recall your concern when Don Paris had his stroke recently, and frankly I was surprised and dissappointed to read your bashing of Ripley and Lauderdale County.
How long ago was that again when you worked here?

Here's a suggestion for you...If you dislike Ripley so much, just don't ever come back. We love new people around here, but if they approach any town with the same crappy attitude you've displayed, they'd probably get the same treatment you got.

Any time you'd like to discuss this in person, I'd be glad to meet up with you somewhere and let you share more of your feelings toward Ripley with me. We're not "clique-ish", but we are proud. If you didn't fit in, it seems to me that it must've been a problem on your end.

Ask around in your circle, maybe you'll find some that know me. If you do..maybe they can tell you what a pleasant lunch companion I can be. I'll buy your lunch...order something soft.

See? We can all display a great sense of humor.
Please don't interpret this post as some sort of veiled threat to whip your ass for talking about my hometwon. I meant it purely in jest. Isn't it sad how we have to explain those kind of things nowadays? ;D

this post lacked the question.. "how big a boy are ya?" I would have completely LOL'd

yes it is unfortunate how we have to explain but the internet doesn't always convey tone or emotion well.

Now that you mention it Meepster, there are some really nice people in Ripley....I remember one particular young lady that worked at a small grocery store on old highway 51....I think it was Click's Grocery......I'll never forget how friendly she could be.

It was all in fun (mostly).
Things, places, and people change.
I'm not native to Ripley, but I've found it to be a great town full of great people.
I cannot understand, from my perspective, what could have happened to make you feel as you do about Ripley. On the other hand, I don't particularly care, either.
There were never any real "ass-whippings" on the table...
The "Know who you are and where you work" came from a conversation with Don just before his stroke.
I was trying to figure out if I knew you already since our paths nearly crossed several times (it seems).
I re-reading my post, I see how it could've been taken.

And Michael...the question "How big a boy are you?", with all due respect to Ol' Roy the comedian, didn't come up because...it doesn't matter!

I should be concerned with "How OLD a boy are you?" when talking with littlebig...It's not right to pick on your elders! When he did hid first stint at WTRB, I was busy doing my homework and getting merit badges in the cub scouts.

Humor is fun! ;D

[EDIT]

Let's just agree to disagree.
Have a nice day. ;)

[EDIT-inflammatory]

Yeah...me too, really. I got another one coming soon.
Editor zapped the best part of my post.
littlebig would have laughed the hardest!

Mepster, do you know Scott Reeves? He spent a lot of time around Martin an Union City...don't think he ever worked in Jackson I'm partly responsible for him getting in the radio biz...sorry I created a monster. I worked in Ripley with Bill Dotson, Dale Pope, and Henry Fennel. Ron Rickard worked there part time while he was a trooper. Just after we got new cart machines with "trip tones" I loaded up about 6 songs in the machines and went in the lobby to take a nap......only I hadn't inserted the cart all the way in on the 3'rd song. A part tlme high school kid came racing in yelling that we had dead air for about 20 minutes.

I don't know him. My radio pedigree starts in Paris, TN. (of which I AM native-so please don't "dis" it, too!)
Paris, Camden, Huntingdon, Jackson, New Mexico, Louisiana, and Memphis.
Ron was Sheriff here for one term and lives in the same neighborhood as me. Some of the other names sound familiar...but I don't recall. My debut was in 1979 during high school.

The nap story sounds all too familiar to me.
Check your messages in the "my messages" section.
It'll tell you what the editor zapped.
He thought it inflammatory. He doesn't understand our kind of humor.
I think you'll LOL!
I sent an e-mail to the address in your profile, too.

Who could dis Paris... Hank lives there... (I'm actually serious.. I've been there once or twice, it's a nice town)
