the post was started by me because I heard they were thinking about unloading WTRB in Ripley.
Lacey and at least some of the gang are involved with two local partners in this station.
Word has it on the street that the locals are certainly ready to bail. Don't know about Lacey.
He has some serious local matters to deal with of his own-completely unrelated to radio.
Simply put...if the station IS for sale, someone like lash could do something with it and make it profitable.
It is my understanding that right now...it is NOT!
Even if the building and property were paid for (I dunno whether it is) it'd be hard to pay the bills on
8 grand billing a month. How much is the electric bill? The insurance? The labor? Taxes? Maintenance?
Is Thomas fishing around for it?

Don Paris has been employed by that station for 45 years or so, through every owner it's had in that time.
He suffered a stroke recently, but they've been finding a way to work him some and keep him some income going.
Regardless of any other issues, that shows me some class on Lacey's part.

Their might be a station for sale in Byrdstown, Tn. It had an agreement to be sold a couple of years back but it fell through at the end for whatever reason. It's WSBI licensed to Static, Tn. on the Ky border. It does have a CP to go to 10kw daytime only, currently it's 250w daytimer. About a year or so ago the FCC auctioned off an FM for that town and it went for 100k, which was the minimum, but has yet to go on the air.

Not surprised you did not like Ripley. I've spent months, cumulatively in nearby Dyersburg and Covington and it's one of those places
that saps my energy.
Now, if you're accustomed to hills, west TN is another world.
The Ripley police are famous for ignoring the public coming into the station reporting a bridge section near collapse and doing nothing.
The bridge section fell in and several people died. Late 80's-early 90's.

The bridge collapse you speak of happened on the Hatchie river. The bridge is on STATE Hwy 51 and is the border between Lauderdale County (Ripley) and Tipton County (Covington). It is not located in Ripley.
I guess all your "energy" was sapped and you never had the chance to look up any FACTS before you made an incorrect statement.
And since West Tennessee saps your energy so much...I believe you know exactly what you can do to avoid that situation.

I understand the feelings about Ripley. I worked there for 4 or 5 years and was always made to feel like I was an outsider.....very cliqueish. A friend of mine says that Ripley is too small to be it's own state and too big to be an insane asylum. I suggest doing away with Lauderdale county all together. Give Halls and Gates to Dyer County, give Henning to Tipton county then take several tons of TNT blow up Ripley altogether leaving one huge hole and turn it into a hellava lake for fishing and water sports.

I sooner or later will end up working on a press problem in that yearbook plant in Ripley.
I have scars on my stomach from surgery in Dyersburg, and watches still in repair in Dyersburg.
Dyer county is a sure-nuff real place for me...

A city Police force has NO AUTHORITY to shut down a STATE highway. None. Period.
As I understand it, the State was scheduled to make an inspection on that very bridge just the following week. Also, the distance between the Ripley City Limits (AFTER moving it out to growth boundry lines) is still about 6 Miles from the bridge. At the time of this accident, it was more like 10 ot 11 miles.
Ripley Police, Ambulance, AND Fire responded in an attempt to save people when the accident was called in.
They DID go above and beyond!

I used to enjoy going back and forth with you on some things. And I've actually liked many of your posts. I now know who you are and where you work.
It seems to me that maybe your attitude may have had something to do with people from Ripley making you feel like an outsider. I seem to recall your concern when Don Paris had his stroke recently, and frankly I was surprised and dissappointed to read your bashing of Ripley and Lauderdale County.

Here's a suggestion for you...If you dislike Ripley so much, just don't ever come back. We love new people around here, but if they approach any town with the same crappy attitude you've displayed, they'd probably get the same treatment you got.
Any time you'd like to discuss this in person, I'd be glad to meet up with you somewhere and let you share more of your feelings toward Ripley with me. We're not "clique-ish", but we are proud. If you didn't fit in, it seems to me that it must've been a problem on your end.
