CBS cancelling a number 2 rated late night show for financial reasons? You gotta be kidding
"According to LateNighter.com, citing Nielsen ratings, CBS’ The Late Show with Stephen Colbert topped the 11:35 pm hour in total viewers with an average of 2.417 million across 41 first-run episodes. The Late Show was also the only program to show an increase over the first quarter, with the show up 1%. In the coveted 18–49 demo, Colbert brought in 219,000 viewers.
ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! came in second for the 11:35 pm slot with an average of 1.772 million viewers; however, the show edged out Colbert in the demo with 220,000 viewers. Meanwhile, NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon finished in third with an average of 1.188 million viewers and 157,000 in the demo."
Hmm, interesting. Since broadcast 'standards & practices' have changed over the years, I could see a scenario like what HBO's 'Sex and the City' was done and it aired on cable channel E!. For eroticism, try editing down and re-airing episodes of Showtime's 'Red Shoe Diaries'. These days with 'young people' who apparently can't be 'forced' to watch 'old-fogey, free-loadin-cheapskate' OTA teevee, this kind of content that they'll somehow stumble upon would probably get better ratings than Fallon or Kimmel in quite a few markets. There are some Crimetime shows that have never been released on DVD. Fly By Night never got a release (aired in 1991, starred David James Elliott years before JAG). I don't think Dark Justice got a DVD release either. Silk Stalkings, of course, because it had a following and got decent ratings when it moved to USA. And for broadcast TV, it was about as erotic as you could get.
Didn't Silk Stalkings (or Sweating Bullets) beat Carson in some markets?
I've got a complete episode of Fly by Night recorded from KIMA Yakima with commercials...but the taper made a boo-boo and it came out in black & white. Not signal-related.
Just simply going to MeTV as turnkey overnight filler would be a reasonable option. Perry Mason? Gunsmoke? Cannon? Why not.Or what's left of the network may offer selected reruns of prime-time shows as an option for affiliates.
How much of that from sportsball? And CBS Corp. hasn’t existed since 2019 unless you’re referring to the CBS television network itself. To all predicting the end of CBS:
CBS Corporation is estimated to earn approximately $1.2 billion annually.

CBS Corporation is now Paramount Global.Okay, I think we need to know if whatever database BigA used is identifying the same corporate entity.
CBS Corporation ceased to exist in 2019 when it merged into the second iteration of Viacom. That combination, ViacomCBS, is what became Paramount Global.CBS Corporation is now Paramount Global.

The current net worth of CBS, now part of Paramount Global, is not explicitly stated but can be inferred from its market capitalization and financial reports. CBS Corporation, prior to its merger with Viacom, had a net income of US$1.960 billion in 2018. The combined company, Paramount Global, reported a net loss of $6.2 billion in 2024, according to Wikipedia. However, Paramount Global's total assets were US$46.2 billion in 2024. The market capitalization of CBS, which reflects the market's perception of its value, is currently $8.52 billion

Why didn't they just split with Viacom again? Isn't that the side of things losing money? From the Google.
Shareholder profit is why. The thought was combining the companies would help the stock price. Why didn't they just split with Viacom again? Isn't that the side of things losing money?
Paramount won’t have any power then.Congrats to Colbert for having a 20 year run hosting the Colbert Report on Comedy Central and Late Show on CBS. It will be interesting to see how Paramount will respond to 2026 after the Late Show ends after its 33 year run.
