Leno will have new set

searadiofreak said:
Back to the issue of sets. NBC, and all networks, have no interest in the nostalgic aspects of what set housed what program. It is all business. How can they utilize the facilities to the most effective value to the network. That's all it us. That's why Dr. Oz is in the old Letterman studio, and Access is in the old Carson studio. Sets and studios are just "equipment" to make the whole system run. Pure and simple. (However, I find the history of these studios as fascinating as anyone!)

I know that networks has no interest in the nostalgic aspects of the studios if they can't make money off of it through studio tours. I was just expressing my reactions to who is currently in those studios that I've mentioned.

I didn't watch Leno last week, so it's good to know that he will have his desk back and soon be off of prime-time. I dreaded watching any network prime-time television. Even House, which seasons four and five are what really killed my interest in that show.

I wouldn't be surprised if Leno knew all along he would get the Tonight Show back. So therefore, all they did was put his old set on an extremely Lazy Susan type of foundation and all they are going to do is simply turn the 10pm set around and Whoa-La!!! The Tonight Show set is right back in place!

TMZ apparently thinks Jay is in the same studio that he previously did the Tonight show in...

TMZ is stupid... "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno Version 2.0" will stay in Stage 11, now home of the Jay Leno Show. The studio that originally housed "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno Version 1.0" will NOT be used for the show's return in March.

I think many of us have tended to trust TMZ since they have been right on so many stories. But, yes, this one they have backwards, no doubt. The boy who cried wolf, as in perhaps they are getting a little lazy and resting on their laurels.

That's because based on the promos we've been seeing, "The Marriage Ref" (executive produced by Jerry Seinfeld) now tapes in Studio 3 where Leno called home.

Well when it comes down to it, EVERY studio is just a big empty room. Not much difference from one to the next. If they moved all the stuff from his old studio to the new one, the show will look exactly the same as it used to.

It's funny that you said that because when I saw that promo last night I was thinking about the same thing. However, don't they usually taped these kind of shows months before airing? So, it's possible that they could swap studios during the upcoming programming break for the Winter Olympics.

On Monday night's show when Carrot Top did his segment and threw a prop towards Kevin, he mentioned something along the lines of that the current studio was bigger than the old one. I've noticed for a while that Studio 11 seems to have less audience seats and more stage space. Studio 3 is the reversed of that. That's why I think Studio 11 seems so much flatter as we watch it on the tv screens than Studio 3.

It's going to be interesting to see how all this pans out next month and which studio they will finally decide to use.

Studio 3 was also the home to "Laugh-In" and "CPO Sharkey."

And speaking of which...remember when Johnny Carson invaded the studio one time to give Don Rickles a verbal lashing over destroying his cigarette box the previous night?

I have fond memories of Sharkey being yelled at by his superior.

Bebebebebebe!

Talk about a premature death. I was just watching Conan with my girlfriend Monday night and we both agreed that there is no way in hell that Leno is funnier. We were laughing our asses off several times during Conan's show. I just think most of the 11:30 crowd didn't even give Conan a chance. Probably didn't even bother to watch him at all. If they had tuned in they would have seen that the show was really good. This whole thing is really a big loss. NBC will ultimately see it's mistake. I hope Conan gets a new gig soon. Everybody please write letters to your local Fox station and tell them you want Conan. It's probably the best chance of getting him back on the air as soon as possible.

Yes, because everybody knows how much the stations listen to the viewers/listeners... ;)

According to The Marriage Ref's website, the show is taped in New York, not at Burbank as I and someone else have originally thought. I'm guessing it's the other Studio 3 (in New York) is where NBC tapes that show.

Oh well, that's showbiz for ya. NBC/UNI is losing money because of that studio being empty. The quicker they strike Conan's set, the quicker they can use it themselves or lease it out.

It's sad that Conan's set wasn't used much longer, but I understand that they have to move on.

So, my guess is that Leno will either end up being in this studio, stay in Studio 11, or return to Studio 3 in March. We'll just have to wait and see.

My point is that FOX has already stated that it was concerned about affiliates who may not want anything interupting syndicated programming they now offer at 11 and 11:30. So letting affiliates know that there is demand for Conan may make them more willing to hand over that hour to Conan.

Don't know if this is telling or not, but Conan evidently has put his penthouse apartment in NY up for sale. Any Fox deal would almost certainly be in L.A.

More to come on this one...film at 11.

...I just think most of the 11:30 crowd didn't even give Conan a chance. Probably didn't even bother to watch him at all.

Conan had established as audience at 12:30. Leno had established an audience at 11:30. Neither one had a good chance of establishing an audience in new time slots. They were too "famous" (therefiore stuck) in their old time slots. Also, neither one had the time to do it; NBC was counting on both to "bring" their respective audiences with them.

It's like the very popular midnight-6am DJ who is angry with his station for not "promoting" him to a better shift in the daytime because he had built up quite an audience for the station and he felt he deserved the "promotion". However, the station didn't want to lose the audience he created by taking away its favorite all-night DJ. It was a "Catch 22", and the story repeats itself - with the stakes much higher. DJ's were constantly moving to other markets to get better shifts (Even the smallest radio stations knew what NBC didn't know.). Conan's move will be like Letterman's move years ago - another network where his "type" of humor will be expected..

Trying to fill Leno's shoes wasn't that big a challenge, but the kid trying to fill the shoes of Allen/Paar/Carson was just too much, and the result really was not a suprise.

Yeah I heard about that. However my first thought was that he doesn't know how long he will be out of a job, so he's building up that bank account as much as possible. I could be wrong, but like I said... that was my first thought of why he is selling his penthouse.

Do any of you know if it is possible to get a tour of NBC Burbank like they do with NBC NEW York? I would love to see Studio 1 (even though its now home to Access Hollywood) someday especially since NBC Burbank may be torn down if not sold off.

Also, I think from what I heard Jay Leno will be staying in Studio 11 from what other sources are saying. But the thing I don't understand is when Leno moved from Studio 1 to Studio 3 around 94 or 95 I think, it was because he wanted the audience closer to him where it was more intimate much like the clubs he was used to preforming in. Studio 1 nor Studio 11 really offer that since they are bigger than Studio 11. So I wouldn't be surprised if maybe they do go back to Studio 3. Is there a way to tell on the first episode of his NEW tonight show which studio he is in? Just curious.

Oddly enough, I have an interest in these old studios. I guess I am a bit of a dork!

Oh, and bonus points for who can answer this! Jack Paar did the Tonight Show out of 6B in New York Right? Well, when Jack Paar did his own television show after he did The Tonight Show, did he also film that show (The Jack Paar Show) in 6B even with Johnny doing the Tonight Show in that same studio?
