Panama City Magic's Panama City stations to be sold

was listening this afternoon to 97x and they were saying the bone starts at 9am Friday (8/29)....looping songs with bone in the title or lyrics...."Bad to the Bone" for example
That explains the “ticking” sound they were playing when I checked around 8:30 this morning. 97.7 was rocking this afternoon.

Why did JVC use their biggest signal to simulcast their Fort Walton Rock station WBON?

Highway 98 Country, WHWY 98.1, seems like it would be the safer station to simulcast on 97.7.

Has rock caught up with country in the panhandle?

You're overthinking it. It was a matter of simply keeping the Rock format on the frequency known to Rock audiences. Radio companies do not give themselves marketing budgets so they're not going to spend time moving formats to different frequencies. This whole deal appears to be about simply operating the Panama City stations cheap out of Fort Walton Beach.

WWLY aside from the TOH ID is only playing classic country, no liners or commercials. Told my buddy at the beach with me that I felt like a format change was coming. Now with the callsign change I feel like a change is imminent...

Is Island 106 switching formats?

You should try reading our fearless leader's main site once in a while.

It appears that all of the former Magic stations in Panama City are changing formats to either simulcast or replicate JVC's Fort Walton Beach stations.

Remember this mantra, which is usually true: New ownership means programming changes.

Anyone close enough to pick up 100.1 or 105.9? Streaming is down on both.

Also, if Island 106 does flip from CHR, what's the bets on how long until someone else in the market flips to CHR?

The WRXB call letters on 100.1 suggest an Urban format.

Given the demographics, I don't see a fully Urban format being an option.

Further, I think Lance's guess is closer, as JVC appears to have purchased the stations to expand the reach of their present formats in Fort Walton to Panama City.

They do? "RX" could be Rock. Could be for something branded X or B. Plus the calls could theoretically be swapped with one of JVC's other market stations like they did when they launched the "Bone" in Fort Walton Beach and moved WBON from its Spanish station on Long Island. i wouldn't draw any conclusions based on those calls

That wasn't a guess. Every public comment made since the sale says as much.

Mea culpa. I read that sentence in your article as opinion but not fact, but then I admit to not having read all the public comments. That's what I read RadioInsight for.

As of 9pm Monday night, they were still classic country. No liners, just music with a TOH ID

Just a thought.... JVC has WXUS 102.3 in the Ocala Market with a mixture of country and southern rock. Perhaps the same will follow for WWLY given their RXB callsign change

they might have sent out a press release about being Jinlgle 105.9, but they aren't playing jingles....no stunting going on as of this afternoon (September 30)

No press release. They promoted it on their social media and was noted on-air by a listener when I reported.

Are you saying they are back to Island or off the air?
